Great info here guy and gals, +1 certainly very interesting for someone who has yet to receive his CV1 in the UK and make a PC from scratch - on a budget - Really looking forward to the next few months and can't' wait to build the PC. I wonder if I'll get away with just buying the 1070? Not much info about that so far - early days.
Thanks again for all the links/reviews/comments (-:

If nvidia want VR to takeoff they really need to make the GTX1070 as powerful as possible for VR. GTX1080 too expensive for alot of the gaming community.

Anyone have an opinion on the following? I'm interested in a GTX 1070 or GTX 1080, but I only have a 1080p screen.

From the specs in the article, it looks like a 1070 will be pretty much overkill for anything at that resolution. I do have to upgrade my card, as my GTX 970 is currently of questionable stability (it's an SSC version that doesn't mesh well with the rest of my PC.)

So, the choice becomes, do I spend $400-$700 on a 4k or 1440p screen, or do I go VR and get an Oculus Rift.

I have the money for any combination of the above, but would like to get the best price/performance if possible.

Either should be fine for 1440

VR - more is always better

TRY VR before you buy. Some people don't adapt well to it.

I'm using a 980Ti with a 34" 1440p screen - love it. Works very well all settings on Ultra.

There are new 34" G and Free Sync monitors worth a look.

4k - again more is better. I haven't seen any reports on 4k performance yet. Getting decent 4k framerates has been a challenge - maybe Pascal will be the answer.

980Ti here. Getting steady 60 FPS @ 3840x2140 everywhere else but on some occasions on planets.

In game Vsync & frame limiter OFF, Adaptive V-Sync & Triple Buffering ON in Nvidia CP.
Ultra settings with 3 modifications from default: Bloom OFF, Ambient Occlusion OFF, AA set to FXAA.

I just saw this:

It petty much confirms that 4k on highest setting may still be challenging. Highest framerate was 75 on one game, but the rest were under 60 FPS.

For now, 1440p may still be the better monitor option.

I think the 1080 will be able to handle VR at 4k but maybe not with all the bells and options turned to max. I am willing to turn some of them down to get a steady 90 frames at that kind of frame rate. I just hope developers take advantage of the VR tech in their games as it grequires support to work.

Lol, unfortunately not. The 1080 is stronger than any card before at 4K, but it's not up to 4K at 90FPS for two rendered images.

Those with 980/ 980Ti will likely choose to wait, while earlier 600-700-series owners (like me with a 780GTX) will see a near-doubling, or more in performance.

I'm hoping the 1080's horsepower will keep ED/Horizons at 90fps in VR even on planets; with 25-30% more than a 980Ti on tap I think that's a reasonable bet. :)

I haven't seen ED used (or much VR) in any review yet.
