I cancelled my CV1 pre-order

Wanna buy a new DK3? CV1 my @$$

Mine is close enough to arriving and I am sure you will be able to sell yours for a nice mark-up given the pent up demand. It is a shame that ED is such a deal breaker for so many. I am however looking forward to many other games where the issues of a space game's contrasting colors are not an issue. I am smart enough to know that if I am unhappy with my CV1 I will not lose on resale and I can still go back to playing ED on my 147" wall display

That being said $400?

Also to all those still on the fence CANCEL NOW all those videos you have been watching of happy CV1 users are fake. They are all being made by Oculus just to get you to buy. Cancel now cancel now LOL

I've considered cancelling my CV1 preorder, for various reasons. But, I will never give you the satisfaction of having yours arrive 5 minutes earlier because I cancelled!!! :p

What ever you decide I hope it makes you happy. Life is too short not to have some enjoyment. That's why I ordered a Rift, I know it's not perfect but at my age who knows how many iterations of VR I will get to see. It's all good

oh my good why did you do that i came from dk2 to CV1 and just put ambient oclusion of and you fine. Im so happy with CV1 its like 50% better then dk2 poor man you are lol

Yeah, CV1 does have some wicked god rays, but tweaks to the game (dim the dang ASP pillar lights!) would resolve a lot of it. And in every other way, it's far superior to the DK2.

Confession time - I was lucky enough to be one of 5 dudes to get a rift at best buy here on May 7th. My preorder shipped a few days later, and I'm about to make a pretty penny on it on ebay. I feel guilty about it knowing there are folks out there who may be waiting a few more weeks to get rifts they ordered in January, but it's not often I find myself on the winning side of a transaction like this. I usually lose my shirt every time I buy or build something and then later sell it, and we just moved and are paying two mortgages until our old house sells so could use the money which factored into the decision to keep the preorder and resell that unit.

I also sold my DK2 on ebay for twice what it cost me new the week before that. Apparently people want VR and they want it now!

Lol. Thank you for seeing my humor. I meant it in no way to be rude. I have the same sentiment about the cv1. I have the dk2, and while it's great, I'm ready for better comfort, lighter weight, better resolution, etc. I'll even put up with the god ray issues. Here's to the future of VR!

Hi Nebula109. No, I haven't tried the DK2. My concern is that there seems to be lots of comments that the lenses in the DK2 are better than the CV1.
I'm based in the UK. I've looked at your map link, and will drive 120miles round trip to Overclockers where I bought my 980ti. I'll try out both the CV1 and the Vive. Thanks for the suggestion.

Have you been on your journey of discovery yet? What are your findings?

I GROK that. The fanboys can get a little intense at times, but we are all gamers= fun so I for one don't take things to seriously. If someone wants to do something I disagree with I will still defend their right to do it. The DK2 owners. the CV1 owners. the VIVE owners the non owners are all wanting the best experience in this sometimes dam annoying hobby and these forums can be a great resource to that end.

I'll take any bodies CV1 off your hands for $300 You know it's crap. Last chance

True. It would be nice if the fanboys could calm the ___ down. We're all in the VR game together, and all want the best. But, ppl are gonna take sides.
I don't care which HMD is better, as long as VR gets better.

You have to remember that most people are stupid. These are simple comfort issues that can easily be sorted out, with each person having a different solution. I have a small USB fan blowing towards my head and never have any heat problems. As for the weight; you'd have to be a pencil necked little weed to be bothered by it.[/QUOTE

Must be a youngin. You obviously have little understanding of arthritis and how it affects people as they get older. All the work arounds in the world will eventually be defeated by age but then it seems you have all the answers to the ergonomics of HMD's so perhaps you could start a thread to save the suffering of others with your keen insight on human anatomy and how what works for you works for all. Otherwise spare us your condescending "most people are stupid" attitude"

I'm 51 and have a mildly arthritic neck, actually.

Then you should know better. Most people are not stupid just not informed.

Some seek information while most seek validation and then they don't get it, because their original decision was a lazy thoughtless one, they get all defensive and put the shutters up.

If by validation, you mean some confirmation that we've made the right decision to pre-order a relatively expensive item on faith ahead of time then ya so what.

After all I don't condemn GEOFF (who started this thread) as food for thought for those of us who have taken a leap of faith. His reasons to cancel may be quite valid to many. But given- MOST- of us haven't had the opportunity to try the dam things yet cause DUH there not out yet we come to the forums and watch and read to learn through those as they get their kits while we still have the opportunity to change our minds. Nothing wrong with that. Seems like a less than STUPID approach.

And in a continuing total opposite approach to your quote -SOME- come here to put down the majority of seekers of information and belittle honest attempts to find out how good or bad this new tech is and to seek validation for their "I am right -you are wrong-I know how best- you are stupid "attitudes. Sorry you don't get that.

And I am way older than you so your still a youngin .

Stop calling it CV1 how about DK3 and I have one I can overnight for 899 dollars, yes that is more than waiting 3 months.

I am still using my DK2 from 2014. No reason to upgrade, I love it how it is! I'm just hoping for a long time support! If not, I'll take a break for a while, or there will be a product on the market, that let's me say: "Just when I thought I was out... they pull me back in. "

Ya I get that you are not happy with the current state of the tech. Have read your posts. CV1 is pretty much how everyone recognizes the generation being referred to so I think for clarity I will continue thank you. If you really want to sell your "CV1" for 899 I am sure your can find someone who can't wait.Try EBAY

And currently there's no need to upgrade. But there's talk of the Oculus runtime having DK2 support patched out at the end of the year.

However, I figured they'd be people prepared to buy my DK2, so sold it whilst I could (for double what I paid- madness!). I can understand what you mean, and personally I know I'll always want VR as part of my gaming experience so ensured I got a Vive and CV1 beforehand.

I think they'll be advances sure, but nothing for a couple of years considering how long it took to get the current generation to market, and the lack of availablility of that range this year.

I can't wait for that future though- the experience will only get better with each iteration. :)

I think it's managing expectations- maybe that comes with age. ;)

And with age I think considering what I came from as a youngster in terms of graphical quality, what an amazing experience VR truly is, irrespective of what consumer (or development editions according to Raptoid) units are currently on the market. At least we now have reasonable stability in software terms, and some hardware standards to begin to create a foundation of stability that earlier development VR headsets weren't prone to.

Oh, and whilst I'm hear as I'm 41 rather than 51, luckily I only suffer from a stiff neck from prelonged use, but yeah different people are going to have different attitudes to bodily tolerances. But with BigDuke6ixx responses to me earlier let alone you, I've stopped interacting frankly.

For sure. Wait till it's perfect and die before you get to play with it. I didn't get a DK1 or 2 so the CV1 is, as Raptoid likes to call it my DK3. Sure it's not quite ready for prime time but everything I have read and seen so far suggests to me it will be quite enjoyable and worth playing with. Seen a lot of hardware and software not ready for release since the days of Pong but wouldn't let that stop me from trying to advance my gaming experience.
I am sure when we get to 4k it will not be acceptable to those who want 8k etc etc.
