What's your ship?

Cobra mk III because I started the game with the cobra explorer kickstarter start in gamma, and I'm still using it :D

(I have had a go in a lot of the other ships though....just never sold my starting ships, cobra and freagle)

Asp Explorer here but would like one day to get an Anaconda for the additional jump range or maybe get a mod once Engineers go live for the Asp

Oh I'll be engineering the frack out of my Asp. Until they introduce a medium to small ship that can even compete with the Asp I'll be sticking with her for exploration. If I could buy an Anaconda where the cockpit was up on the nose of the ship, I'd buy it in a second!

Right now, I'm flying a combat-explorer Anaconda build. Never did like how the Asp looked both inside and outside the cockpit, and I immediately took a shine to the Anaconda when I bought one. Flying one feels like captaining a large ship.
Once the update goes live, I'll be flying a combat-explorer Clipper within space where signal sources still spawn, and I'll be flying an Anaconda modded for range to the deep ends.

Number 1 all-time great explorer ship for me is the Anaconda. She's my submarine-in-space.

Number 2 is my Clipper - because who doesn't love exploring in style. She's my "Enterprise in an ED universe".

Number 3 is the Cobra Mk.III - 25.something LY jump range for a decently-kitted out ship, and it's roomy enough not to feel claustrophobic when you look around the cockpit.

Number 4 - and this is a ship which has grown on me since I deliberately self-destructed in one 700LY from the bubble when I first tried it - is the Diamondback Explorer. Definitely growing on me, although it does feel a bit cramped when you look around the cockpit.

And special mention goes to the Asp Explorer. Great explorer ship, but the propellers-in-space engine sound absolutely destroys my suspension-of-disbelief! I really, really wish Frontier would change that.

If I ever get to the stage where I can afford a ̶C̶l̶i̶p̶p̶e̶r̶ Cutter, I might give that a go - you might be able to kit one out for exploration and get a decent jump range via some Engineer mods. But I can't see me being able to afford one for a long time just yet.

Since you already afforded an Anaconda, I'll just assume you meant Cutter by that :)

Asp Explorer

I decided to purchase mine simply because I was bored of trucking in the T6 & wanted to see some nebulae, also it was about the most expensive ship I could afford at the time.
Not long after I first left the bubble I heard word of the "Distant Worlds Expedition", in which I'm glad I had my Asp for its 33.4 LY jump range required to reach Beagle Point effectively.

Here's my build:
http://coriolis.io/outfit/asp/02A4D5A4D3D5D5C-------02--3ev40k02432i2f.AwRjOV3K0ixA.AwkRjUqhmbiA

Info about my choices:

All the parts are selected with the intention to maximize jump range while keeping the ship effective at scanning and exploring.
I always like to have at least a small Cargo, just in case I find something spectacular in the depths of space.

I have the Power Distributor, Sensors, Cargo, AFMU, Hangar & Shield Generator disabled because :
A) all modules enabled = 120% power/nothing works
B) It gives me lower heat levels and therefore faster "swoop&scoop".
Idle heat is 18%

Imperial Eagle :D
My trusty PFS Asylum Express has now travelled 156,000 Ly and reached Beagle Point twice (and pushing to 65,372.43 Ly from Sol). Perhaps not the best choice for the task, but it's fun to fly something out of the ordinary, especially something this good-looking. :) As for why, well I was approaching 1000 hours playtime, and wanted to do something unique. Seeing as I've always loved the Eagles, I decided to take one out for a little exploration trip...

OH heck no, the engine sound is one of the Asp's iconic features! That's why the Asp is the Millennium Falcon of Elite Dangerous. :D

I have been happily flying Hauler for several months, which brought me Pioneer rank (I think). Loved that cosy little ship so much I barely survived moving into the Asp, almost sold it and returned back :) Got used to it later, though.

Anaconda... I tried, but it just didn't work. Too big, too clumsy in supercruise, and too... luxurious cockpit for my taste. It felt like I was a guest on one of those awful tourist cruisers.

Bridge. The Anaconda has a bridge, not a cockpit :)

:p

I never thought of the Asp as sounding like "propellers". It was always a cool engine snarl in my ears. However, some of the ships have a turbine engine sound that reminds me of riding in a mundane passenger jet. I wish that was more of a rumble or hum or occasionally a spacetime-rending scream.

I've several exploration ship (hummm, all of my ship was ).
My first one was the Adder (don't remember the exact buuild and too far from the Buble to check, probably "A rated FSD/Fuelscoop, D everything else").
For my first long range expedition, i used the Glorious Fluo Pancake, my trusty ASP Explorer (build : http://coriolis.io/outfit/asp/04A5D5A4D3D5D5C---------023e-0j0j432i2f.Iw18WQ==.Aw18WQ==?bn=GFP ).
Actually, i'm musing above the galaxy with my Imperial Fluo Moped, a Imperial Courier (build : http://coriolis.io/outfit/imperial_...------022tf23uv62f2f.Iw18UA==.Aw18UA==?bn=IFM ), fun to drive in canyon and so classy on screenies.
Waiting for my return in the Bubble, i've also kitted for exploration an Orca. I plan to use it for short trip, like visiting the barnacles (we need a classy ambassador) and some nebulae.

my first two explorations close to the bubble were done in a hauler and then a cobra mkIII. Very nice ships indeed the both of them.
now i have an aspx and a dbx because they actually have explorer in their names and i like using things the way they were meant to be used. both ships are a decked and armed for medium combat. since the dbx can not fit an afmu i mainly use it for short range exploration around the bubble and about 10-20ly into the void. the aspx is my long range exlorer and has never let me down :)
personally i don't want to upgrade to conda or anything the like. i want it to be called explorer or i wont use it for exploration, simple as that :D

fly safe
