Thargoids. What are they good for?

Thargoids. What gameplay are you expecting they turn up? What effect will it have on the bubble and playing within it?

Just curious about things CMDRs have been mulling over for the last 20 odd years!

I sincerely hope that FD plan to do something more creative than just have them as the generic bad guy/alien threat. Michael or Sandro said something about the relationship between humans and thargoids being dependant on players so I fear the worst.

The best outcome I can hope for is that they pull us out of hyperspace and drop us in a random part of the galaxy, so we get a free boost to exploration range. Otherwise, nothing good will likely come of it.

If I'm really hopeful, they will drop us somewhere really interesting, or outside of normal FSD range. A "here wayward human, you should look at THIS" kind of thing.

Thargoids? Bloody Thargoids? I've had a grudge against those evil, violent, insectoid [expurgated] since the mid 1980's. You know why FD keep Thargoids dangling on a sodding string? I'll tell you why. It's so balding, middle-aged Englishmen like me will continue lavishing cash on this wonderful iteration of our favourite game when we were little boys. And they keep us hanging. The [expurgated]. Thargoids? Don't talk to me about [expurgated] Thargoids. I'll Thargoid you in a minute, son.

Thargoids? What are those?

I'm wondering if we can get access to their tech. Grind Thargoid rank to get yourself a Thargon drone pack or some such.

All you have to do is deliver 50,000 tons of Karsuki ti locusts.

I can't really see how frontier would leave it up to us to determine the relationship. Player activity hasnt had much impact on the storyline so far. All those meta alloy deliveries only switched stations back on when AA complained.

There are a whole bunch of closed of areas of space out there. Regions larger than human inhabited space that require permits to enter.

I suspect we will be able to get into a few of them at least and see new stations and other such things...

I am expecting a number of new ships. Fighter, mid range ship and a big battle cruiser as a minimum. In the original there was witch space. I am suspicious the work in 2.1 to the hyperspace jump might be to accommodate Thargoid appearance. I suspect it might be explorers who find them first, hence the comments about explorers might want to have weapons.

I almost don't want them to be announced. Just have them slowly entered into the game, hiding in other innocuous patches so we're none the wiser for when we meet them for the first time.

I anticipate that DDT will go on sale again in the commodities market and systems producing it will see a trade boom...

I'm expecting Thargoid scout ships to drop some of the most valuable loot in the galaxy. Then I'm expecting a hidden counter on Thargoid kills by commanders, maybe with some Galnet posts obliquely referencing it. Then when the counter hits a threshold the scout ships get replaced by warships and we're screwed.

Of course FD might introduce a "peace" path to Thargoids as well with its own hidden counter, but I'm not confident this will be well flagged or obvious. FD prefer players to figure stuff out on their own.

I'm kind of happy that FD will finally do something with the Thargoid story, but for me it couldn't happen at a worst time.
I will be away from June to October with no access to my Gaming Rig and will pretty much have no time to spare for gaming... [cry]

But I'm still happy for everybody else.
Also I'm really curious to see what 4 months in ED can do to the galaxy... [Like, will I login in October and be among the few surviving humans???]

I think you humans are gonna cry when they appear, if hostile.
If not Thargoids then the next aliens will do the same.
You will poop a little.
They'll prolly come at you in ways you can't defend either.
Only after the fact may you be able to get organised.
Lots of drama though.

Yep. I mentioned exactly this in another thread.

FDEV have hinted that there will be some other alien race who are not THargoid in-game in the future.

So I'm hoping against hope that Thargoids turn out to be our pals, with whom we're fighting against some other Big Bad out there.

I've seen various comments on forums by various rabid players that they'll just go out and shoot Thargoids because Thargoids. How disappointingly unoriginal.

This isn't really for me to communicate but I believe we have already had an impact upon the stoyline. From what I understand our actions re the Thargoids will influence how the plot moves forward. Its anyones guess what Frontier have planned for our alien friends but its quite possible the Thargoids aren't going to be the greatest threat we face. I'm speculating here on the latter point.

Yes. Although I suspect Frontier's approach has more to do with not actually having Thargoids ready yet, the sneaky clues and mysteriously long forum threads have been very effective.

I'd guess that the addition of Thargoids would change everything. It could be huge.
