Powerplay Why are Solo and Private Groups allowed to influence Powerplay?

Well, not only there are suspects about the fact that worthless systems appear on top of preparations despite the efforts of dozens of commanders to pick other targets, but they made some gloating posts:

Sounds like you have your fair share of griefers too, which is a shame.
But not every solo player is a 5th columnist, just like every open player shouldn't be tarred with the griefer brush. Best either of us can hope for is sooner or later they get bored. Bar a few, most people just want to enjoy the game and get on with it.

*sigh*

The name comes from one of the game's ranks. It is not a description.

And you are forum member #762374234 to say what you did.

Regards

Of course it is a description!

It's a misleading ad. If a game is called ELITE DANGEROUS, it evokes an expectation. They try to lure certain segment in. It's false advertising.

So the heck if it's also a rank? Harmless is also a rank. Why not call it Elite:Harmless? Doesn't sounds so sexy, huh? What about ELITE: Merchant (trade rank)? Would fit the game actually far more. But not so great to sell to the MMO crowd.

It it's really "user #762374234" bringing this issue up, then something is very wrong with the game name and the marketing conduct of the company, not users 1 to 762374234.

The Fallout example the other poster brought up is ridiculous. Fallout plays after the nuclear fallout. It's quite a fitting description and holds its promise. Elite: Dangerous doesn't. It's like naming a family entertainment movie "Huge Knockers: Round and Wet!" and then being all upset why the movie attracts the wrong people.

"You pr.on perverts disgust us! Knocker is the name of the family, and they have lots of children. that's why it's called that way. Pretty simple! Round and wet refers to the cakes the mom is baking all the time! If you all would have watched the movie BEFORE you watched it you would know all this!"

Well they are in solo to avoid detection, which may lead to one of the following possibilities:

- being destroyed (worst scenario);
- public shame.

I don't think they would care about public shame. And again, how would they be destroyed? If they have any brains, they are flying ships like clippers. Hard to mass lock and can outrun anything that can masslock them. Chances of death ~= 0% if they are any good.

But would you shoot your own power members (as I asked before)? Or you think opposing people will... hmm... perhaps they are in on this 5C thing themselves.

The traffic logs show that they usually fly Cutters and Anacondas (they are the large capacity ships). However, we all knows that a measure is never definitive: if they are forced into open, there will be wings of Aussies and Kiwis who dedicate themselves to this. Another solution maybe to remove the preparation phase and make the simulation automatically pick the expansion targets (insert here complaint about being deprived of existing gameplay), but even in that case the "5C" may be pushing the bad ones.

People will find the way, as usual, to exploit what the simulation offers to their advantage.

I'm not sure I agree 100%. If you force people into open you are punishing genuine solo players to stop a handful of people spoiling the game for you. Thats unfair and a sledgehammer to crack the proverbial nut.

A good approach which seems fair for all modes.

Agreed. But playing solo isn't necessarily an exploit.

Oh dear. Basic comprehension failure detected.

So season one, called "mercenary" is a game focused on private individuals hiring themselves out for pseudo military work?
And season two, "horizons" favours the explorers? (Wishful thinking)

It...is...just...a...name.

To be fair though, an Austin Allegro was one of the fastest things with a square steering wheel.

This argument reminds me of Guerrilla Warfare. Guerrilla armies (Solo/Private) avoid direct confrontation with enemy troops (PvP'ers).

Difference being in this case the Guerrilla armies have complete impunity. In a real war scenario if enemy troops got intel of the guerrilla armies positions they could root them out, sadly that is not the case here. Boy wouldn't that be fun emergent gameplay though?

Just a little cross post from the Humor piece by Rubbernuke:

Dear Winston Churchill

I'm sorry we got off to a bad start, but I have no one else to turn to.

Stupidly, someone on my staff thought expanding into Russia would be a good idea, and now I need to get out before this expansion hurts my economy.

Could you be a true friend and counter this by fighting my uncontrollable military forces there?

Yours,

Adolf

Dear adolf, just combat log into Solo and the Russians won't be able to hurt you. Problem solved.

Well, when i joined this game a while back, the moment i left the starting system, i got jumped by a player in anaconda i believe it was...it was huge.....before he blew me up, (his aiming sucked) i asked 'why kill me?' i have cargo that isn't worth an ounce of the ammo he expended to kill me, he responded with 'because i can'.

That is when i went to solo play exclusively, this is also why i HATE pvp so much, you guys claim its for the challenge, yet you go out of your way to avoid the challenge in the first place, kinda pathetic, then i joined Mobious and ChaosWulffs private servers, both of which are pve only......in my opinion, how this game should be....my opinion of course.

I've been harping on about this since beta, but until the devs implement proper prirate/trader/bounty hunter mechanics that allow people to engage in 'meaningfull' pvp then certain player WILL engange in pointless PvP griefing type behaviour.

The game really badly needs 'proper' pvp pirates and proper pvp bounty hunting tools...
Oh and a 'proper' criminal record system that is persistent and holds penalties for killing innocent commanders.

Proper PvP won't exist until there is a reason to PvP.

no point in organisation.
