The Star Citizen Thread v 4

No one asked it to be. But the fact that its been under development hell for 4.5 years with nothing getting finished and nothing really working correctly speaks volumes. Most alpha's at least have some of the stuff working right, not this broken mess.

No one is judging, only you brought that up. I would argue that is not actually gameplay, whats the difference of that mission and just running around? Nothing, so no gameplay. I pointed out how you posted a video of a guy that did nothing for 8min and sounded bored out of his mind. Perhaps next time you could post a video of people having fun doing that mission, or heck even doing the mission. Sadly even the video's of people having fun are having more fun with how broken it is then with the mechanics of the game.

1,2,3,4,5,6,10 years it's quite irrelevant because reality is is what it is, and what it is, today, is one alpha, it doesn't stop being one because of that. That's not what i am arguing about.

On the video for example, he missed the hacking, the player he killed at first had already started the hacking process and he missed it. Though the likes of the several types of gameplay to follow-up with depends from person to person.

Does not matter how long its in "alpha" "pre-alpha" or "pre per pre pre gleam in a programmers eye", alpha it not a valid excuse to ignore criticism or to ignore broken code. All alpha means is that it MIGHT be fixed, it MIGHT get better, what it does not change is what it currently IS. And what it currently IS, is broken buggy mess that has had persistent bugs from the first iteration.

SC progress is very slow, their bug fixes are very slow, yet they have a 114 million and a staff count of 400. At some point you have to realize that they have no idea what they are doing and while they will make minor improvements and minor progress, its way way way less then it should be.

It does not matter, the game is undergoing development as one alpha, independent of how long it is taking. Alpha means It's not Final. Again i'm not wanting to argue over terminology again as it's pointless, not sure why are we here even. As we're already past the actual discussion to something else i'm jumping off.

Spoke to my dev friend who worked on GTAV some time ago. He felt $90m (at the time) was nowhere near enough money to make the game as pitched. He pointed out that they've made 4 other GTA games, got a wealth of experience, are aware of various pitfalls, they have more staff, more studios and their own engine to make the game - yet it's still incredibly hard to do in a 5 year time frame *and* their budget was for all intents and purposes "unlimited" - because the profit margin was so huge.

CIG no doubt have some talented people, but they've got a lot of things going against them...

WAARGH...don't talk to me about the repressive publishers and their ways!!!!

They have no idea the power of crowdfunding and its eventual take over of all avenues of commerce and life!!!!

I wasn't, got engaged on FPS combat during the mission with 2 or 3 guys on my case, i think the 2nd was returning. So yeah gameplay, there's a point for doing this missions now, or take upon player bounties, etc...
There's other games around, where you're much of the time, is them traveling to places instead, and it seems people aren't that bored of that kind of gameplay.

Well thats because the game in question is actually er a fully functioning application and not some super-jankyglitchhorrifcjpeg-poly-blowfest that is the BDSGE

It doesn't matter what you label it, Alpha or whatever, it's the current state of this portion of the game's development so far. It doesn't excuse them of presenting this mess four years on, and please don't quibble with that time frame please otherwise I might just puke again.

Just to add to that Sy, why would anyone want to make any sort of comparison between Star Citizen (a "game" that as we all know, isn't out yet) and a game (we all known the game Max was snidely referring to) that is clearly functional, selling well and moving forward with it's own set goals of progression?

Any such comparisons will only further highlight the absolute *gulf* in playability, stability and longevity that spans between the glorified tech demo and the actual *game* in question. Surely any smart beliv- I mean, follower of Star Citizen would be well inclined to avoid such comparisons so as not to embarrass him or herself when on a discussion forum like this one. ;)

(Oh and btw, my first post on this particular Elite forum. Hello everyone. ^__^ )

Well, puke ahead then! It doesn't change the stage of development of SC is at being one Alpha.

The disciples of Robertology have no shame and hence are incapable of feeling embarrassed by their forum antics.

Ps I'm a bit of a noob too, around these here parts. Welcome to the Purse, *cough* I mean Verse

I'm sure Chris hasn't behaved dishonestly as the financials are due to be out at the end of the month.

EDIT : I really don't think he'd be that stupid.

Thanks for the coffee and donuts! :)

And why did I decide to come over to post for the first time? Because I've been lurking on this thread for sometime and decided to add my voice to those discussing Star Citizen. Simples. :)

(And no, I'm not a backer of the game at all, so you'll be glad to know that I won't be making desperate excuses trying to defend a "game" that is failing in so many amusing ways. :) )

I AM a backer and am interested in watching how the whole thing shakes out myself. Will it, or won't it? How badly will people's expectations be hurt when the game doesn't live up to the dream they have been harboring for so long? It really is worse than a blind date!
