The Star Citizen Thread v 4

No - it doesn't have to be "real" - it simply has to be consistent with itself in its universe. It doesn't help that CR has been mentioning "fidelity" for ages - it can be demonstrated quite readily that two controlled, identical actions have quite different reactions. As I mentioned - it's like they play with the RNG for what effect is going to happen.

Think: Star Marine. That's all I can say for now, as I am awaiting final confirmation from sources. At which time I will update everyone.

Gosh...I really hope you are wrong. SQ42 is literally the only thing I care about from CIG.

Everything else that I want is mostly satisfied by Elite Dangerous....which gets Engineers and a big overhaul today...YAY!

True but, i didn't want to go into detail about those. To summarize, each additional peer adds a nonlinearly growing amount of bandwidth requirement. Each additional peer makes everything worse for all peers.

Yes and? As we know, advantages and disadvantages.
I've been in instances with 20+ people and it was fine.... andI'm on mobile internet.
I've also been in instances with 5 people and experienced the occasional rubber banding.

I hope SC isultimately going for a hybrid or pure C/S approach.

Wll they can afford the maintance of the servers so C/S would work great.
Australian players are already        of though since CIG still hasn't implemented those Oceanic servers they promised.

So with that, i'm leaving you to it, and i shall leave from posting on this thread as well. ;)
Have fun.

That is a shame Max...what better an opportunity to go toe to toe with the guy. If your points are solid and you can back them up, I'd really like to see if you can disprove or de-hype his claims.

Skulking away now actually lends to his credibility.

Yes, it's me. I already gave the mods a confirmation via several avenues. I have been following this thread for quite sometime now. Today, I simply got fed up of the wanton disinformation that some keep posting. So I felt that it was time I went in clean, clear, and naked.

As to SQ42, I can't say much atm, but that's why I made this Tweet this morning.

I really hope there are some meat on that bone, because people need to wake up and see how it really is.

It's not up to me, my opinions, views or what i say, that should define who you give credibility to. It's up to you, your opinions and your views.

I'm jumping off, not because arguments or the discussion at hand, other situations where things can be taken up to a personal level, made me uncomfortable, so i shall refrain from getting involved and end up on situations i don't want, as i am no saint either. If everybody agrees with each other, there's no arguments or heated up discussions set to happen, so, it's for best!

My best wishes of to you, and everyone else i had the pleasure, and not so much pleasure, discussing with, until now.

Well if you really are orf - farewell Max!

I would say see you in the verse but one way or another I think that's unlikely.

Alright Max, your decision.

Just so you know...I don't really look at this thread anymore unless I know you are posting. It all becomes a bit one-sided and I actually enjoy discussing the merits of CIG with you and trading some barbs now and again. If this is the real Mr. Smart, I doubt he will stick around in this thread for long. I'm sure he's got more important things to do than post on an ED forum.

Should you be on Port Olisar at the same time is me, I'm the guy called DiscoMonk (I came up with that name before I even know what a Disco Lando was, so don't judge :D)

I'm not sure Elite has any impact on CIG's tactics right now. With the amount of negative attention ED gets on internet, I feel the only advantage it has over SC from PR standpoint is "it's released".

How much "negative attention"? You mean the deliberate downvoting of the game on the Steam reviews by rather salty SC fans who can't *stand* the fact that Elite is 1), a working, functioning *game* that is out right now, whilst Star Citizen continues to be nothing more than a barely playable pipe-dream, and 2) is doing actually rather well sales wise whilst it continues to be updated and further improved upon? Nah, not much negative attention to be that worried about or that focused upon here.

I mean, I didn't see Frontier desperately rush out a botched, hacked together "procedural generation" vid on the eve of Elite's planetary landing debut AND the huge PR coup of getting the game advertised in the cinema before Star Wars: Force Awakens last December, in a shameless attempt to show that CiG's project was still relevant.

Nor have we heard about of any internal strife, real or otherwise, coming from the offices of dis-gruntled ex or current employees at Frontier over the last 12 months or more, whilst the same can not be said for CiG.

I suppose you are sort of correct about CiG not being necessarily focused about what Elite is doing right now... They have far MORE to worry about from the likes of Activision, EA, Bethesda, and other major publishers and indie developers who are coming out with a variety of sci-fi based games set for release in the coming months, with some of them rather directly encroaching on the ground that Chris Roberts has been proclaiming Star Citizen would occupy unopposed as "The Best Damned Space Game Ever!" (TM).

Genuinely sorry to see you go Max. Come back anytime, it's been fun.

If you feel that I have been harsh to you in any way at any time - that was never my intention and I humbly apologise.

Come back Max! I enjoy getting positive SC news mixed in with a healthy dose of cynicism and without your updates there is no balance in the force.

But wait. Max leaves and Derek Smart arrives. Could it be? Did anyone happen to notice if Max looks a bit like Derek wearing really thick framed glasses :D

"With the amount of negative attention ED gets on internet"

that would certainly be true if the internet = RSi + subreddit

What negativity?

The only negative what i hear about elite in german (non sc) communities is that the think that frontier made a good stable base for this game, but it needs more content and depth. And that is the reason why so much people left it. But since frontier want to add features i do not think that this should be a point where elite should be worried about.

Where has all 100+ million dollars gone for star citizen?

2.0 could take a week or a month before release to live. We are now at patch E, the "gameplay" lasts between 5 to 20 minutes, if you can get into the servers (this can take up to 10 minutes EDIT: Twerk17 just gave up after trying for and hour). In my opinion, a lot still has to happen with netcode, client and server crashes. Apparently the instance manager is not functioning as it should. Then they still have to fix the multitude of persistent bugs left over from version 1.1.1 to get it to a playable state.

EDIT: The flight model is slightly improved, but most ships still feel like paperplanes, except for the Gladiator, not perfect, but drifts better.

The environments are beautifully done, and they do have a great immersive atmosphere about them, with great gameplay potential, if only CIG can get all this to work.

the le of the post says it all...where is all our money...all i see is weekly pizza lunches and a carppy buggy patch every now and then. Is it time to sue them yet or do i wait another 6 years?
