oh dear.. Felicity wants me to shoot Barnacles

Yes. I think that this is same here. One would say, that in the game update called "Engineers", there will be actually some engineers present at the moment of update launch, prepared to serve and deliver some upgrades to players. At least the smallest one.
FD has really a strange bussiness model, especially if we can take as a fact that approx. 90% of player base is not reading the discussion forum at all and have absolutely no idea that something like Cannon group exists.
Each Engie wants something return. They don't want money. They want interesting stuff. This lady is exploration geek, so she want you to *explore*. Find new Barnacles.

Now if they have re-invented the very nature of Meta-Alloys and tied it to REAL exploration, that would be interesting but Frontier should have at least mentioned that Meta-Alloys now come from another activity altogether. But if it's still Barnacles and they've just moved them, that's not really tieing it to exploration as frankly Barnacles never were about exploration... people flooded the forums harassing devs for more information and played a game of "Study the frozen trailer frame image" until Frontier released tons of pointer information to tell everyone where to go.

Honestly, for me anything that involed hauling cargo back does not count as exploration. Mining, salvaging, trading, smuggling, sure. But if I require cargo racks and turn around when I am full, the activity is not exploration.

I love the logic FD is doing here.

Make a massive update to the game ---> Make it so people can't dive right in and experience the content.

I'm not looking on every planet, shooting down / scanning every NPC. I need at least some direction as to where to find these meta alloys. Come on, man.

Then you mean pot luck.

I am not an explorer .. I suffer from Space Madness .. so this engineer is not for me then.
Yes, exactly. I am a trader and I need this engineer just to help me to make my FSD and thrusters on my Trade Anaconda as good as possible. I tried exploring in the past and it is a really boring thing and definitely not my cup of tea. At least, until there are no bussiness oportunities on the other side of the Galaxy.
BTW, it is the same thing with the engineer upgrading the (multi)cannons. I want better weapons against NPC pirates, but I really do no want to buy and tool specialised combat ship, just to give him some stupid amout of combat bonds.

So far, for me it looks like "It was fun for couple of days in Beta and will see you again next year".

Everything indicates clear intent? What are you rambling on about here? How would you know what is indicated. The barnacles arn't working anymore. Clear intent? No change or mention of this anywhere in the change logs.

For all intents and purposes, everything indicates a clear bug.

I can't find any of those meta alloys or soon "thing" relics, so i guess i will just wait like everyone till some good adventurer finds it and tell us how.

If you read Cannon thread, Barnacles are completely changed, and obviously with intent. Intent is force you to look for new Barnacles, and now Barnacles have turrets - someone's trying to protect them. It's a challenge. Yes, there are multiple gates on Engineers content. Ho Hum. That's how it is designed. I personally have no opinion on this one. I think it is clever idea to put up challenge. You might see it as annoyance. Opinions differ.

The barnacles are not the only source?

That report suggested that the new generated Barnacles don't drop meta alloys....at least all the time. Perhaps there is some RNG involved. I wouldn't mind this, but I'm not going 300 Ly out of my way in a rated 19 ly jump range ship.

The commander that found the new barnacles got some indite, and some other mundane mineral for his trouble. We'll see.
