Okay I'm done. (for now)

I know my player faction (one of the biggest on xbox) made an offer to beta test this release for FD, but were turned down. Pity really because it's obvious once again that FD has released an update on Xbox that has been nowhere near tested enough.

Within one minute of playing I was aware of a game breaking bug that numerous other players on the forums have reported. The loss of the context menus. Alright we have a fix now but how the hell did that get missed in the first place, seriously, were you testing with your eyes closed? Did you even try the update on the xbox before releasing it? Because from a players point of view it doesn't look like it.

Next up we have the black out bug, fun one that, try fighting when you can't see anything. I like a challenge as much as the next guy but come on, I'm not Luke Skywalker, I can't use the force.

Then there's the number of disconnections I'm having. I daren't fight a player for fear of being called a logger because of the number of times I'm getting kicked from the game.

And this is before even worrying about the ninja NPCs. I have an alt account where I have a DBS fighter. but because I've not had it long my combat rating is still very low. I took on a sidewinder today and I thought I was fighting the Red Baron himself. It was as if the damn thing was bolted to the back of my ship. Even going FA off I couldn't turn fast enough to get it in my sights. In order just to get it in front of my ship I had to hit the reverse but then the damn thing took my canopy. I did kill it in the end, I even lived to limp away with some hull left.

The next problem is that the NPCs are now so hard to defeat that the bounties we get for killing them won't cover the repairs to our ships that we incur in the fight making bounty hunting pointless. I know, wing up, but I should be able to take a single enemy on by myself without getting my butt kicked every time.

Oh and I just lost my ship with all my bounties again because even though I did the fix, sometimes I just have to glance at the B button and have the vaguest notion in mind of my gear lowering to trigger a boost into the damn station.

I've got over 1200 hours in on this game on my main account, I'd like to think I know what I'm doing but this is just so damn frustrating, Elite is not only my favourite game but has been my obsession for months now but these issues are just draining all the joy out of the experience.

God only knows how a noob would even get out of the free ship at the moment.

I'm going to take a break for a few days, then I'll try again but if my experience doesn't improve then I won't be a returning customer when horizons and engineers launches next week. I already know of other players who have deleted the game since yesterday.

And before I get a torrent of 'get gud' comments, please remember, this is a game, it should be fun to play, and more importantly it should be fun for players of all abilities not just the top few percent. I'm happy for you if you like the changes but you should also respect the fact that a lot of people don't and our opinions are just as valid as yours.

FD, if you learn nothing else from this launch start doing proper beta testing on the xbox, use real players who have the use of their eyes, it'll make a big difference to your customers experiences.

/rant off

I know the NPCs needed buffing, I wanted them buffed but really FD, did you have to turn them up to 11? You went from one extreme to the other.

I understand the frustration, not come across a ninja npc yet. But there are some strange things going on.

As an example shipping goods for a mission bur them not being recognised at the station in the mission. Solution seemed to be to sell everything in my cargo hold and then eventually I could close the mission down.

Exactly my point, they've let such whopping bugs in that it is painfully obvious they didn't do enough testing.

Can't agree more, like you this is also my biggest obsession, but bounty hunting is worthless now, and I will return come horizons if the bugs and a.i. are fixed, if not there's other games on the horizon.

m8 i feel your pain my vette with 2000 shields was striped of them plus all my cell banks by 1 eagle even the when i did hit it back it did no damage to it and i got out with 80% hull thats a 800mil ship battered by a ship that costs what 2-3 mill maxed out im elite trade and combat and have over 1000 hours in this game i feel like ive ben bent over and shafted this eagle did all this damage in like 40-50 seconds the game is broken utterly broken and messed up

I'm just going to play Nostradamus for a mo. This thread will be locked. Not because FDev don't like you personally or dissenters in general, but because a 1000 people have already made the same complaints, usually with less of a tone of being victimised. ED is not broken. FDev are not idiots (or racists as one poster on the Game Hub claimed). Your enjoyment is their bread and butter. Think of it like that and let them address the balancing that inevitably will happen.

It was a massive update, the context control was a teeny tiny inconvenience. One email into support and you'd be on your way. Frontiers support has always been second to none for me. They have in house testers, yes they missed a few things. Chances are they released 1.6 now so we can find the remainder of bugs rather than it being a nuclear crapstorm when 2.1 comes out. Not a bad call in my eyes.

I've only encountered this in rings, have yet to see it in open space. Its pretty rare for me, maybe once or twice per run. Annoying but far from game breaking. Do a few barrel rolls and it goes away.

Then there's the number of disconnections I'm having. I daren't fight a player for fear of being called a logger because of the number of times I'm getting kicked from the game.
Server load is high right now. There is a ton of people flocking back to the game as the new guns are pretty exciting. Frontier warned us about this in the update post.

Enemy rank means something now. In my FDL I had to high wake from a Cobra, soon as I got my guns on it, chaff boost and on my six. Soon as I tried to F/A away and kite, it was missiles and P/As. So far its 60/40 with people being happy vs people being unhappy with new AI.

New players with low rank won't face the same enemies I or you do. Yes, sometimes you may find one or two, but in those situations its time to run, not fight.

Choose fights wisely. Jumping guns blazing is a sure way to die now. I always confirm just what I'm shooting.

As for the sidewinder vs DBS, the sidie is very maneuverable, don't play the turning game with it. It's going to win every single time.

Something has to be bugged in this case because I really cannot believe this otherwise we'd all be having exactly the same experience consistently with these enemies.

I have survived full on assaults, even last night in Neits despite being busted up by a mass of ships. I can't believe an Eagle alone even with Engineered special weapons could do that which you describe in under a minute with your SCB's.

Of course, I believe you're speaking the truth, but I doubt this is the new AI and more a bug of some sort with the new weapons and how they interact with your ship, but I simply haven't come across this since I play it last night.

Who knows, all this talk is raising a lot of complaints. But so far I've enjoyed the changes because the NPC's were a lifeless and rather joyless addition to the game before.

Everyone calm down

FD will resolve the bugs im not sure about the AI, all i can say is do not write the game off when Horizons comes they will have fixed it.

untill then i am going to potter about the galaxy and maybe risk a bit of highly challenging compat

Those of you throwing around the term "game breaking bug" clearly have no idea what a "game breaking bug" actually is...

The bugs are annoying, yes. And it is a little frustrating that some of them seem to be glaringly obvious. But do any of them completely break the game? NO!

Get a grip...

Well said mate rep on its way

I'm not sure that the release of Horizons will "fix" anything (except for enabling players to have Engineer mods, making it a bit fairer when facing the NPCs that *already* have Engineer mods).

For Xbox One, Horizons is DLC - it's not a patch for the base game. We've *already* had the 1.6/2.1 patch, just without the actual Horizons content enabled yet (the game jumped in size by 3GB - 9something replacing 6something - and the Horizons download is supposed to be small).

I can't see FD getting a "1.6.1/2.1.1" update written, tested, certified, and released in time for the launch of Horizons, so any bugs/issues we're seeing now will not IMO be dealt with until after Horizons...

I never said anything about being 'victimised', I'm just really fed up with FDs poor quality control which allows stupid bugs like the ones I mentioned to get through on nearly every release they do. I mean litterally 1 minute of game play and I'd spotted the context menu thing, how did they miss it? The same with the station lights one a few realeases back, you only had to start the game up to see that one. but they missed it.

Don't get me wrong, I love the game, I love the stuff they've done for 1.6. Graphically they've done stuff I didn't think was possible on an xbox. They've made an absolutely magnificent game but then spoiled it with poor quality control. And yes, balancing will happen and bugs will get patched but that doesn't change the fact that for many of us the shine was taken off something we love and were looking foerward to by easily preventable bugs that should have been caught by competent testers.

If you encounter the blackout bug for the instruments in asteroid rings it seems to help if you turn down the "interface brightness" in the lower right hand function tab to the lowest value. Not the best solution but seems to help until fdev is fixing the bug.

What's that? I'm having a hard time hearing any of the crying for all the fun I'm having. [yesnod]

Perhaps I used words that were too big for you, would you like me to draw you a picture instead?

I suspect FD know of the other games and are trying to keep their fan base by quickly releasing content without due diligence. shame they have alienated so many of us if you read the threads. Can't really accept they messed up and 'will balance it out soon' seems to be incompetence to me.
