Game Discussions The No Man's Sky Thread

Considering the game was due for release before xmas (PS4 version) I will be rather annoyed if this is true as its already been delayed for six months.
one delay I can take but my patience only stretches so far, *if* this is true I may just pull my pre-order and not bother.

I think with NMS this is a game you probably don't want to be patching post release.

I think ED has a bit of this too.

In one of the recent presentations Shaun talked about how everything is related, in that even minor tweaks to the engine have this huge butterfly type effect resulting in massive changes to the environment.

On release the galaxy really has to be static, from what was said in the previous presentations it sounds like whole sections of the game are essentially gonna be unpatchable without completely changing solar systems/worlds etc..

In a game where you discover and name, folk won't be happy if a patch completely changes the galaxy resulting in all their discoveries just disappearing.

With something like NMS there's gonna be extra onus on getting it all right out the door, much more so that most games out there.

...they would've known a long time ago they weren't going to meet the release date and should've said so.
Hello Games may have told Sony that they are unsure about meeting their target date, but Sony may have chosen to avoid informing the community to get as many pre-orders in as possible before announcing a delay.

I think that NMS will launch with all of the core mechanics in a very complete state, compared to Elites "lets make something simple that works, and flesh it out later" approach. But I could be wrong ;)

Maybe...but I'm also pretty sure the NMS "complete" core mechanics are going to be a lot more simplistic in their design to be honest. So it depends on how you choose to look at it. ;)

What's the rush? You only need to cast a cursory glance at ED to see where rushing will get us.

I don't think it makes sense to compare NMS to ED. Both games seem to be able to peacefully coexist on my PC.

Objective: Do whatever you fancy to make a living / survive
Play arena: The universe / galaxy
Things to do: Trade, Explore, Fight, Fly aimlessly around

Seems pretty similar to me :) I have a feeling that the game that will win my playtime is the one with the most immersive atmosphere, and the most rewarding character progression. Assuming of course that the bugged missions in 2.1 don't make me rage-quit shortly ;)

Great - at least the speculation can stop, and we know for sure now.

With 2.1 being such a step-up for ED, this really isn't a huge issue for me.

Besides, I've bought in to the Planet Coaster alpha, and it is proving to be blooming brilliant fun.

:D

The delay sounds o.k. to me. Shame the UK gets it last, but still, gives us time to get the tips in from others first, before stepping in.. ;)
