Engineers Lack of direction on where to find each material = FRUSTRATION and BORING GAMEPLAY

Direction:
- Material X is known to be rewarded in missions
Gameplay:
- Jump from station to station to station to station to station blindy checking every mission if the material is in the rewards and don't find it.

Direction:
- Material Y is known to be in planet surfaces
Gameplay:
- Jump from planet to planet to planet to planet to planet blindly trying to get the material you want and don't find it.

Direction:
- Material Z is known to be in found in signal sources
Gameplay:
- Jump to USS after USS after USS after USS after USS blindly trying to get the materials you want and don't find it.

Seriously FD don't you see how bad is the gameplay? SERIOUSLY?

Everything should be a lot clearer on where to find to avoid players wasting time flying without direction and don't feel frustrated.

Its just BAD DESIGN.

edit:

Suggestion to add gameplay to engineers on finding each material by spawning them in difficult to find locations in the galaxy here:

last I checked the progress is meant to be.

You do/goto missions/uss/planet surfaces->you have fun, get rewards->you gather up enough rewards to go down to engineers.

Doing it the "I want x right now!" way, aiming only for x thing, really is hurting yourself more then actually just playing the game.

I mean within 2 hours I got grade 3 with farseer.....seems fairly fine? slows down now towards the 'top' end items, which I expected, and additional progress methods are coming soon, so yeah...seems fine?

So the gameplay introduced with the Engineers is to ignore the Engineers?

It's meant to be a hard game, with slow progress and no instant rewarding.

I know it can be frustrating, but once you get the "grind" out of your head, you just sit, relax and have a good time.
Don't bother to much on a specific goal, you will burn yourself.

No, it's not fine. It's just your luck.

Apparently selling exploration data allows to increase the rank with the FarSeer engineer - bypassing the intended gameplay of crafting to increase rank. It's completely ridiculous.

Meh I've gotten a few engineers up yo rep 3 already. The thing IMHO is to gather materials in a general fashion instead of specific ones and when you come up with mats for mods go and mod them. Sure I want to max out my Vetts FSD ASAP but while I wait for all those mats I was able tood my weapons and shields. My advice is to pick an activity for the day and do that and collect all the materials that come from that. Then the next day do something else and so on. Then on the weekend do the may re time consuming process of going to an engineer and making the mods.

I seriously can't play without goals, going randomly doing stuff randomly without any purpose it is not my definition of game.

Maybe this really isn't the game for me afterall.

Oh man I can't find what I want instantly and without trouble! I'm bored and frustrated!

It's been two days and you want it all? try harder.

There is no clarity where to find materials and nobody is looking for instant gratification, the mechanism is basically crap.
I spent several hours just looking for basic stuff for tier1 grinding and it was the most wasteful session to date.

We waited half a year for this tripe...

How is that ignoring engineers? Engineers is a 'part' of Elite dangerous, they shouldn't be all you do? kinda like when you in other games work to get a rare or legendary item?
You do a lot of normal stuff until you have enough?

I don't know how it is luck, I more or less did it staying only in her system, looking at what tooltips said I could get things from, doing those things and getting said items..

This.

It's fine that things take time and a lot of effort to obtain.

But it needs to be clear what you need to do, where you need to do it and it must be possible to pursue a goal, and not hope to get what you need through random activities.

Furthermore, one should not have to google or alt-tab out of the game to find out where something is. The game should make this clear enough.

I know a lot of people like this, and I would really say games like Elite aren't for you, it isn't meant in a way to sound superior, or belittle you.

But these kinds of games require you to define the goal yourself, which is very difficult for some.

The whole goal of "I want the best ship I can get" really doesn't work in Elite, because there isn't any one 'best'
With engineers I suppose you could work towards a bigger upgrades but that's really it as far as 'solid' goals go.

Not really, better ships are the only goals in Elite game design that you can actually pursue. Everything else is random.

And there are not these "kind of games", ED game design is just bad sorry. Or give me some other example of these "type of games" please.

Defiantly not the 'game' for you - nice to have a couple of hours combat, switch to some smuggling and when it all gets too much - take a month out to do a deep exploration run - (if you need a goal, try tagging planets)
