With the beauty of high and low security systems now working as intended cmdrs will have to take note of the dangers involved in same. High waking is the way to escape if you know you cannot win the fight, going back into SC to be interdicted by the same enemy should not be unexpected and pilots will have to use the grey matter a bit more. The Ai is not god like and and you will learn when its best to run or fight.
how do i escape in this situation? the FSD was going offline with every hit. it doesnt work when its offline. no charging up no countdown no jump no supercruise. on off on off like an indicator light on a car. so what do i use to jump?

the only reason i survived was i was in a high sec federal system and the cops jumped in. i also suspect that because im allied with the feds they came quicker than normal. and this was a high security system!

i voted other. i said the AI was too hard when they also have too powerful modded weapons and thrusters and maybe also shields. i would like to see npcs not have any powerful modded things for a while until we can see what the AI is doing. at the moment the unusual instakiller weapons are obscuring much of how good the AI actually is.

So basically - "I'm going to wait and see what the difficulty looks like when we also have mods, but would be happy for FD to turn NPC's having mods off until we reach that point". ?

Do I understand that right (fair opinion btw not bashing)

Gotta say that I would strongly agree with this is the pure poison from some of the hardcore elite is anything to go by. This is clearly not the "warm and friendly" community I heard about and trust around some of these guys would be an issue for me. I've seen that same snobbish attitude in eve with those who think ganking new players is fun. Really, that means the game is now an ultra tough single player game that really ain't worth the effort considering the incredibly steep grind wall and very dubious players. Throwing the towel in now would possibly save one from a lotta stress methinks (

Cmdrs are willing to help and give advice, but those on the receiving need to be willing to take it on board and not throw up their arms to heaven at the first sight of resistance and look for nerfs. What you are both doing is collective wallowing in self pity instead of playing the damn game.

My 0.02$: Improved AI: good. God Mode AI (say, competent-expert Sidewinders with infinite chaff spamming that can cut through a mil-grade, 9hull reinforcement, 6 A shield Booster Anaconda by using only small multicannons) broken.

Watching it again. Looks like the Vulture uses one of those lasers that heats up the target's modules.

Except. For some reason it had a ridiculously overpowered effect.

What's happens if you self-destruct a ship?

My frustration comes from the inequity in the system...(I have a Mac for my work and various other reasons) I don't have access to Horizons 2.1 yet I am subjected to engineered weapons in 1.6... there is no way for me to improve my technology to combat the arms race that is occurring. I DON'T HAVE A PROBLEM WITH IMPROVED A.I. when it comes to behavior/flight characteristics/intelligence. But giving A.I. hardware/weapons that I have no access to, hence no ability to defend against seems to be an error in critical thinking skills on FD's part. I have considered running windows on my Mac so I could get Horizons but now it seems forced... If FD has gaps in it's logic that continually forces me to bring a knife to a gunfight they may lose a customer.

Please, cop on a small bit, direct you ire to Apple and not FD, its not their fault for Christs sake.

The AI is dependant on your rank and especially what ship your flying. If you fly a big ship, the smaller ship npc will have Elite rating (and finally be worthy of that rank) and will have lots of engineered perks.

Just to repeat the above sentence but worded from the other direction : If you fly a small ship, the AI will be harmless, mostly harmless and will not have lots of engineered perks.

If that is too hard for you:-

BIG ship == hard NPC
Small ship == easy NPC

TL;DR fly a smaller ship and re-learn your 'skills' before taking on the harder npc.

ps. for the love of god, stop grinding, it isn't fun and you won't learn anything.

Too soon to say, really.
I get the impression that there are a lot of people who were happy with shooting fish in a barrel.
Now we are in the barrel and the fish turns out to have teeth. Oofafa!
Time will tell if the balance is right. I suspect FD might do some tweaking.

God you must be a very poor pilot to be beaten by a sindy no exuses really, please. You must be trolling because no one could be that bad.

well it would be if i ever got mods. at the moment i cant get the materials for any mods to make any meaningfull difference since it lessens my chances of survival in a fight to drop a weapon for a mining laser, and same if i drop something else to get an srv. and combat is now dicey for getting mats if i get another like the master viper 3.

i really do mean make it so that npcs for a while at least dont have mods. even the high levels. that will give a true picture of the AI. my suspicion is the AI will be very acceptable if it wasnt for the ones who instakill with too powerful combat ship mods on non combat configured ships. i feel the mods issue is the problem but we cant eliminate the AI totally as a cause or see if it really is much better even, while some of them are too op. its same with a rail de lance attacking a newbie sidewinder from silent running mode. you dont know how good the pilots are because it was a surprise attack and the sidewinder had no chance just died in one or two hits.

IMHO its not that the NPC AI is better than it should be. its nice now. But the fact that every NPC and his dog has engieered ships to the brim including KNOWN op weapons like the shield torpedoes and the heat rays and the "killing all external modules in one volley" rockets just makes npc combat no longer fun.

There is NOTHING you can do if you get a viper that drops your Anaconda shields AND hull in less than 10 secs. There IS no counter to stuff like that. Not "git gud" no "use engieer weapons yourself" no nothing.

Simple as that.

To FD: dial down the use of those insane weapons or delete them completely for NPC (IMHO for players too, but that dosent concern me, i play no open these days).
The Ai itself its great and a nice challenge.

Very much so. I was originally annoyed at how maneuverable the AI was compared to previous iterations, but honestly, after playing for the past 6 hours - I'm feeling it is the OP weapons that the AI is occasionally given that seem to be the problem. The idea that these modded weapons are "super rare" is quite obviously only in regards to the players.

Just had some poxy Asp take out my FDL's shields (5A, with 5 A rated shield boosters) in 2 volleys. That, quite frankly, is obscene.

Not only have I had zero problems, other than having to think a little quicker on the fly, I've noticed very little difference. They're still AI. They still have patterns. As soon as you've figured out the patterns, they're pretty easy.

I have never seen someone telegraph their opinions in their user-name quite so entertainingly. ;)

Other. ED has been made into a better PvE experience, because of PvP.

Question: Have NPC AI styles of real players been adopted? If this is the case, then my statement is correct.

I dont think there is an issue with the AI per say.

Rather it seems something is making some weapons OP (railgun?)

yeah its feeling that way. i may have been facing a plasma accelerator but im basing that on a glimpse of some ball of lightning type thing while i was firing at them.

im actually now thinking the mods were right to consolidate the AI threads because i think we are now over time getting to the actual issue. i dont think we would have had it been hundreds of small threads. or not as fast.
