Ship Builds & Load Outs FDL fitting. Post here.

For DPS you can't do better than beams and a huge multi-cannon. It'll run pretty hot, and you'll need to manage your pips really pretty well.

This represents my current FdL build. I made the mistake of swapping out my 5C Bi-Weave Shields after the up-date. I was concerned they would act as if they were C-rated shields, and I put in a Cannon, to represent the awesome Dakka maker, the C4 Multi, which is not listed in the builder yet.

I would say that build looks fine, I have heard some pretty scary things about missiles, you may want to consider point defense in there somewhere. The FDL has very nice utility mounts.

Here is my Fer De Lance S.S. Venture. Also using a C4 fixed multicannon instead of the listed cannon. Primarily a hunter, High/Haz Res normally. Occasionally salvage and such, as repping progresses.

Actually have been considering swapping to the Python as my hunter, turreted somethings + gimballed everything else. Lose a lot in pitch rate.. but I desperately need internal slots. I want to up my Imperial rank to Baron and purchase a Cutter, but I am only the first rank.

1) why do you have not any sc? hull reinf. is more important?
2) I noticed you have A sensors. what advantages do they have? I thought no one in that usually i engagé target at very short distances

1: To be honest, I've never really used them since beta. I'm sure most would recommend SBCs but I don't find them needed. I use the Bi-Weave shields, so most times I am at full capacity or close. Also SBCs are only needed if you get shot. ;) Way I figure if I can get skilled enough in combat to never need the use of SBCs then I am better off for it.

2: The only thing higher grade sensors does increase the maximum distance you can detect (untargetable) and target contacts. It's a preference.

Edit; Wow.. edited this 4 times in as many minutes. Anyway, just noticed my linked build has the A shields. Sorry about that, should have the Bi-Weaves.

Here is the build, fixed. Link.

I know, my poor future FDL will have to go without, it seems. Truly a shame... Unless, Frontier simply made a mistake. That could be it. Right guys? you're going to fix this horrible, horrible bug, right? I love Bi-weaves if you haven't noticed.

Unfortunately Fulsom, it's confirmed as not a bug. They where disabled intentionally.
Edit; lets not discuss that further here though, I linked the thread above. ;)

I never actually got around to trying out bi-weaves.

The FDL is finally working for me now. It was a vast improvement moving from shield cell banks and heat sinks to shield boosters and hull reinforcement packages. But I still felt like it was underpowered in the weaponary department using either a huge PA or cannon. I would complement this with medium two beam lasers and two medium multicannons.

But now I've fitted a huge multi cannon, I can replace the two medium multi-cannons with two frag cannons. So I strip the shields off the target, pummel them afar and when they get close, frag them with six shots (two cannons fired quickly three times).

I've been paying very careful attention to keeping the throttle in the blue zone and refraining from boosting but it's turning into quite a beast. But I still do better in my Vulture though and have more fun. Though it's nice to have a change of pace occasionally so I sometimes switch to the FDL.

Using the FDL since the update has made me start using different tactics which is fun. When I'm up against a sidewinder or eagle whizzing around everywhere faster than I can turn, I do a Battlestar Galactica manoeuvre if the targets shields are down. FA off, throttle down and then continue increasing speed in reverse, FA back on and I'm pointing at a target who is trying to catch up. I then continue to fly in a straight line and use my huge multicannon on it. When I get too far away I then joust by boosting towards it while throttling forwards. As I rush past it I hit it with two frags. I've learnt not to do this with asteroids near by though :)

I haven't even flown my FAS since the update. I'm worried that the shields will be taken down too quickly exposing its modules.

That's the only thing about the FDL I don't care much for. The 4 C2 gimballed burst lasers I use feel quite underwhelming at times.. Between that and the internal compartments are the reasons I've been considering switching to the Python. One of my favorite things to do with little ships trying to joust me is once we are nose to nose I firewall it and boost.. wait... wait.. boost turn, FA off right before the boost turn increase wears off and line them up. So far nothing up to Cobras have survived the C4 multicannon nose on at 2km+ like that.

I've been doing a similar boost turn as well. FA off, vertical thruster up, pitch up and boost all at the same time in one movement. I then keep an eye on the scanner and just before I'm about to see the enemy in my sights I switch FA back on again. It works amazingly well in the Vulture because its lateral and vertical thrusters are strong compared to its forward thrusters. It helps having a second joystick for the lateral and vertical thrusters though. I use it when the enemy has just jousted me and I haven't yet boosted. It means I normally end up straight behind it.

One thing I have noticed about the FDL.. kinetic impacts to the shields do very little. I 'accidentally' plowed through a squadron of Adders, one of which was unfortunate enough to be perfectly aligned with my nose. I lost one rung of my BW shields and all 3 Adders turned to dust. Granted.. I was doing 401M/s at the time so the result isn't that surprising. I wouldn't recommend that with anything much bigger though.

I was trying to boost past them. I really wanted them to stop shooting at me with railguns.......

The other day I went 1v1 against another FDL. It was the first ship I came across and no one else was around in the high res. I damaged it more than it damaged me. It then started to joust with me. Each time we ended up ramming against each other, turning around and doing the same again. I kept trying to laterally thrust out the way so we ended up clipping wings instead knocking off about 5% - 10% each time. We both suffered heavy damage but because I had lowered its hull integrity more earlier on it died first. It did mean having to go back to the station to repair though.

Two elegant, fast and beautiful ships ended up fighting like Stampy the elephant that day.

I am running my FDL with a huge multi cannon, 2 medium beam lasers and just for a laugh, a pair of Imperial Hammers
A totally impractical weapon load, the Hammers overheat far too quickly so I. normally fire of 2 volleys before changing to beams and MCs.

The Hammers do sound epic :D

Hammers? What is this?
