2.1 Discussion on AI weapon spam "rate of fire" bug

Due to real life stuff happening ive only been able to play for a few minutes and done a couple of trades and fortunately no NPCs. I think i will continue to do something else for a few more days until this stuff is resolved...

1. Pips to systems only matters when your reservoir is taxed or under constant direct fire.

FYI pips to systems have a direct impact on the shield's ability to mitigate damage. With 4 pips to systems your shields reduce incoming damage by a significant factor (which I can't remember at the moment).

I do not have recording on file, but I believe that I met one of those Eagles with "Rapid Fire Railgun" installed. Luckily I had 4 pips into my class 5 PSG on FAS and fast use of 5A SCB helped a lot, but it was scary. I'm not even thinking of taking my Python for a ride now - I just can't afford that :0

Only for extended firefights as having no energy in the capacitor means the shield can't recharge. Anyways, this does prove the AI cheats. Unlimited ammo, unlimited capacitor energy, ect. I don't care if they deny it. They're lying.

This does raise the question that maybe all the AI threads are too hard topics being opened are very likely to be down to this bug (Well at least a large number)

Yes - I'm hopeful that this is the case. Most of the complaints I have read have been that a person died in a ridiculously short amount of time.

In that situation it doesn't matter how good you are - when Plasma Accelerators can fire at the same rate as Multicannons - who can possibly survive?

I have been having great fun against the AI - and quite a few close calls against the better ones. I know for sure that this bug - if I encountered it - would end in my grisly death 100% of the time.

So the good news is that once it's ironed out, the AI won't need toning down.

As for the "git gud" comments - I've seen a few, to the point where the cliche is itself becoming cliched - perhaps we all need to await/seek further data prior to the knee-jerk responses? Having said that, the presentation of some people's complaints at being killed too soon/unfairly does come across as rather insulting. I've had a few raised-eyebrow moments at some of the thread subject lines. Puts me off wanting to help, that's for sure!

But as it's a Bank Holiday here in the UK (WOOOHOOOO!!!!) FD will be looking at this tomorrow - and I'm sure there will be a fix put out very quickly. Plus they are a kind and understanding team; I wouldn't be surprised to see some recompense in credits given for the losses people have endured to this bug.

There really is nothing to 'discuss'. It's a bug, and only applies to certain situations not every NPC configuration is bugged. It'll be addressed.

People are really taking the tweet out of context and creating their own meanings though, not sure if it's because English isn't their native language so they're interpreting what was actually said and applying nuances that were never there... or if people are just trying to stir things because they're already grumpy. The tweet itself didn't even comment on the bug, it was just a comment about how pip management escalated the amount of damage received in such a short period to lead to major damage hittage given that power into systems actually does act as a means of introducing additional damage resistance to shields.

But it didn't comment or say anything more than that the damage received was enhanced even further by poor power management to make a lot of damage end up being even worse.

Any other spin or interpretation put on the tweet exists purely on the reader making up their own story.

Phrasing things like that may be why you're not getting a good response. People are very willing to be helpful - for every one ganker there's a swathe of decent and friendly cmdrs - but you gotta be a little less confrontational (arguably like like AI!)

This is a bug - the rest you can learn your way around and people would love to help. Just give them a little bit of a chance, and learn which ones are just on the wind up so you can filter them out and not end up ignoring the helpful people who don't word it super-soft too

I think I have every right to be fed up...ain't played since saturday because the game is utterly unplayable for me. I don't know FD well enough to give them my trust...I don't have the experience you guys have with them therefore I can only judge from what little experience I have here, and the emerging conclusion is they couldn't care less. The reason I say this is because I have done a lot of reading since this shambolic update and I see that beta testers did point out to the devs that new players would likely suffer the most...but they released it anyway. So either they don't care or...someone else can fill in the blank at this point. If it is indeed a bug, then fair enough but on a great many threads, I'm seeing hardcore players claim this is just the beginning and things will get a lot harder...so if things are nigh on impossible now, then with the prospect of things getting even harder, then where is my incentive to stay? What is the point in even offering me guns in the store when they so useless, it's comical. All they do is shorten my jump range at this point ^^

Come on, folks, whether the people in the videos were playing a perfectly tactical game or flying like puddings is irrelevant here. No NPC should be able to spam plasma bolts like that. Steerable beams of purple death belong in Raiden, not Elite. If one of those drops in behind you following an interdiction you're not going to stand a chance, no matter how quickly you boost-boost-boost-high wake. No wonder the forums are full of complaints about "ridiculously" OP NPCs. I've been following for a few days and couldn't understand what everyone was on about until I watched these videos. The classic advice to submit and jump is not going to do you any good if one of these gets behind you.

Save the willy waving for a more suitable place. The "multiplasma" is clearly a bug and needs to be squashed ASAP, even if some players are good or lucky enough to evade it. And if by some miracle it's declared to be WAI, please tell me which Engineer I need to visit to get me one of those. I'll drain the fish from all the oceans of Chango if I have to.

No, more pips in Sys directly increases shield resistance to damage, and has for a long time, although it received a tweak some time in the last year. You want at least 2.5 pips for this purpose for it to start being effective, more is better.

And Admiral - I shall create a watertight tank in my Cobra using Mr. Scott's Transparent Aluminum design in order to carry them.

All we have to go on is SJA saying that she plans to tone down the middle ranks a bit and tone up the very top NPC ranks. Note that SJA only codes the combat AI behaviour, she doesn't set the ship load outs nor the distribution of ships that are generated for any given scenario.

IMO this (modulo the ROF bug) is where any problem in 2.1 lies, and I'm sure FD are collecting stats about the ships involved in each encounter and whether this resulted in Cmdr death, and will tweak accordingly.

My criticism of the Beta process (having played this and every other ED beta) is that the 'regular play' mode was too short, only about a week, before going into Mayhem mode, where everyone just got the best guns going in return for fish and a lot of people just PvPed the biowaste out of each other, so there wasn't much time testing regular ships vs regular NPC power distribution.

Where I did say "git gud"? I said player made mistakes. SJA pointed them out. Since when it is something bad? I pointed out that being so upset about being pointed out mistakes is childish. I wonder why you take this personal, because nowhere I said that you are wrong about the way you feel. I commented specific case.

I've read enough of your posts to comfortably ask other players where the mute option is...where is it btw?

It's still fixed weapons, as you can see in one of the videos with the two clippers shooting at each other. Most of them miss and fly in a straight line into nothingness.
So you can dodge them. Not by flying in a straight line boosting, however, you have to use thrusters, which works or not depending on the size of your bucket.
Anything larger and less manouverable than a Viper/Vulture is at a disadvantage, since there the AI can just follow up with it's volley and has better reaction time than humans.

Maybe the purple death PA multicannons are countered by some engineer modded shields and are in preparation of the xenorace invasion (and what alien invasion would be fun, if they did not bring extremely high-tech weaponry with them), but then I guess they should be limited to very few Elite NPCs.

And while those engineers should provide some clear advantage, I think giving the new weapons the ability to 100-0 a 1.6 ship in seconds, without confining it some way that a commander is able to asses the risk, is not really helping.

What's irritating about this whole debacle is that we as players have submitted evidence repeatedly that shows the AI has cheated in the past, and probably still does, to be told 'nonsense, the AI doesn't have any advantage over you as a player'.

I have seen Eagles fire 11-12 chaff loads in a single firefight, yet we are told the AI doesn't have unlimited countermeasures.

I have been in a situation where an Asp interdicted me and fired 4 railguns at me non-stop despite being in a place where I was taking heat damage without even deploying hardpoints. Yet we are told the AI doesn't get a pass on heat damage.

I have tried to use stealth builds and silent running to smuggle into a station, only to watch as 3 vipers charge straight at me with cargo scanners deployed, which they ping me with from the maximum range. Yet still, Frontier insist that the AI sensors are affected by silent running and stealth.

Either Frontier are unaware of these bugs (which have been around since day one) or they're lying to us when they say that the AI has limitations on it akin to a players capabilities.

Maybe you should try and play the game instead of just      ing in the forums and relying on 2nd hand information. It is still very playable - yes you might see the rebuy screen a couple of times - but by playing save I have made up the 16.5 millions in rebuy I had to pay 30 minutes into 2.1.

Bugs are bugs and will get fixed.

They don't ( since 2.1 )

It certainly does. I have successfully smuggled with my Python. In fact I have not been scanned (while running cold) in 2.1 at all.

Yes, but the problem is that when players complain that the new 2.1 AI is too OP (which in the first instance may or may not be related to this bug) the standard advice is to submit to interdiction, put four pips to ENG and boost-boost-boost until you can high wake. If your Interdictor happens to be one of these multiplasma guys there's a distinct possibility you'll end up flying directly away from him in a straight line with limited SYS pips. Suicide.

It's a bug. The bug needs to be acknowledged and patched. Anything else is tangential at best.

Last time I logged into play...after being ed 3 times in a row the night before and dying 3 times in a row resulting in near bankruptcy...I undocked and decided to try again...got ed on the way to the star to get fuel with the scoops and killed without any reason and by a pair of deadly. Ain't played since.

By all means, explain to me what part of the game is playable and I'll go play it. Currently have about 42k left whereas I had about half a mill before the update went live and normal travel in safe space means being constantly ed...not counting the missions are bugged with nowhere to hand them into. Trade nigh on impossible, bounty hunting is just a mockery now and I can't explore if I can't travel in any direction without being ganked by very high lvl NPC.

By all means...tell me what my options of play are ^^

Actually, significant testing has been done on this and the number of pips in SYS does directly affect your shield's ability to soak damage. From memory a shield on 4 pips can take 150% more damage than one on 0 pips.

I have lost 2 A Rated Federal Corvette to this bug (insta kill) . That cost me 40 Mil. Credits. I'll play something else untill this thing is fixed.
