A Guide to Minor Factions and the Background Sim

So something I'm interested in seeing.... There's a faction which got shunted out of its home system die to the' too many factions' expansion switcharoo thingy. Now in 2.1 the only place they are is a foreign system. What happens if they retreat now?

That's indeed a good question. Either FD didn't think about that scenario, or they added a system count for the retreating faction, so that they stay at least in one system. Just a guess of course.

Anybody having problems with civil wars in 2.1?

I managed to get two factions into civil war just before the 2.1 patch got released. Now the civil war is over (took longer than expected) and apparently only a small outpost changed ownership and not the biggest of the faction that lost the conflict.

I'm confused, did something change how stations change ownership with 2.1?

Is the biggest asset a ground station?

Orbital assets > planetside assets every time, afaik.

The faction I support with another account entered today the sixth day of pending expansion. The faction state is NONE, and we are not at war/cw/election active or pending anywhere.

The pending expansoin should have last 5 days, and we should have expanded today.... anyone also noticed that kind of change?

I have a War in one system and have observed the same action of % movement to non-waring factions. It would appear that if there is no collecting of bonds for either side, they both lose % and its given to the other factions.
Changed my previous view (https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=193064&page=196&p=3980912&viewfull=1#post3980912) after seeing today's figures. have six systems that have ongoing conflicts that have not lost any points from the conflicts nor seen any other point exchanges, while three others have lost points to outside factions.

I'm beginning to think that conflicts are invisible to the updating mechanism and points are exchanged as the result of normal daily activities.

No, but I went from pending to active prior on yesterdays tick, and following todays tick i have expanded and gone into a none state.

Just to clarify following on from yesterdays 'lessons learnt'.

Today - Gone from active Expansion to none state, thinking the pending War has interupted it. Yes I am now in War in the system as expected. I had a 3% loss in the expanding system which is to be expected on a 5 day active state if it had gone full term (dev say 15% loss).
Only the big surprise was I had actually expanded as well. 1 Day of Active Expansion, and into a system of 6 Factions, but the nearest to me.

The Brazilian League is already 4 days active expansion and we didnt popped up anywhere yet....

The nearst with 6 factions, this means for me that whole expansion process was messed, do you have system with 4 factions that where more distant than that one you expanded?

System A 19.19 6 factions
System B 19.25 4 factions
System C 23.05 4 factions
System D 28.29 6 factions
System E 28.33 5 factions

The system I went to with 6 factions, has one in retreat which is the ex-ruling faction from where I expanded from.

Hey everyone questions on the 2.1 BGS.

I know FD has changed the way missions are spawning in 2.1, and this means that we usually get at least one mission per faction, but i still have questions, they are please:
1. Does who owns the base make a difference?
2. We seem to get epic hard missions for our faction (as we are allied) but only 1 or 2, are you finding this?
3. factions that do not like us have lots of missions but only a few that we can do and they are easy, are you finding this too?
4. We get the most missions from middle of the road factions, are you finding this too?

thanks everyone, i love you guys.

We had the same problem with a faction that was pending expansion before the update. Ended up going active after 7 days pending.

Now that is extremely interesting...

I'm hoping that they turn nomadic, so there will be several displaced factions gradually being shunted randomly around the bubble. They could end up in some interesting places and maybe eventually find somewhere to settle and grow.

I don't know if this is just me or not, but I have noticed that completing missions now only has influence on the issuing faction and no longer gives any indication of influencing the receiving faction.

Two odd things overnight:

1 One of our factions went into Boom in all locations yesterday. Today they started a War in one system and the Boom state has disappeared in all others.

2 Joined a different faction in the first day of a War that we've been setting up for some time.
- Population: 1984 on a single outpost 15KLs from the jump point.
- Traffic through in the last 48hrs: 1 FdL (me).
- At the start of hostilities yesterday Faction A: 33.4%, Faction B: 33.4%.
- I turned in 1,144,000 in Combat bonds over 4 sessions and claimed 1,011,836 for destroying 22 enemy ships in 2 missions while I was at it.
- Today's figure: Faction A: 55.5%, Faction B: 2.4%, so 2 more days of pointless conflict ahead.

Perhaps the cap doesn't fit any more.

We had seen both of these prior to 2.1.

-Booms cancelled universally by conflicts, many, many times. Now what we're seeing is expansion states (expansion, retreat, investment) trumping economic states universally, and conflict states trumping all others, also universally.

-Major shifts in very low pop systems. Two of us were able to obliterate one side of a pending war - 39% > 0% in one day, about 10 days ago. Many examples of one-man 20% changes effected.
The same effort in 5-8 billion pop produced results of around 3.5% per faction.

I noticed when expansion got active for factions controlling multiple systems, there's a random influence loss between these systems, not only the system with the greater influence consistely losing influece. Needs conformation.
