Nice post. At the moment I have paused with E : D, at least until Frontier sorts out the most glaring bugs with the Engineers update.

His post was is OK - if you ignore the fact that SC has taken a lot of time any money to reach this point. It's way behind where it should be and it's not built on a solid foundation to iterate on.

Have you paused on SC until they sort out their most "glaring bugs"?

Surely before you do anything technical/practical you need to actually figure out what game you're trying to make and what game you can reasonably expect to make with the resources at your disposal.

And you definitely need to send CR on another holiday or at the very least put him in a straight jacket to stop all that bloody handwaving interfering with the people trying to do the work.

I'm not sure that they can make much more of a game with the resources they have in a reasonable timeframe. That might be why the whole MVP thing has emerged - they've realised their ambitions are more lofty than their resources allow. In my post, I was thinking of 1.0 as being the MVP. Although naturally I - and probably no-one in this forum - have any true idea of what resources (i.e. money and staff skills) they currently have. I might be very wrong and they have enough to cover their grandiose plans - in which case why the MVP ?

And there is reason to think they could get a decent MVP out before the year-end, if they concentrate on that and that alone. There is the core of a game there, with some excellent assets. What is more, people seem to enjoy playing it. Leaving aside the rather funny bugs, the skins versus suits video did show stuff that would appeal to a fair few people. It looked as though they were having fun in 2.4 despite the bugs.

It's a case of fixing the many bugs and wrapping a compelling game around what they have. Oh, and expectations management amongst the 'investors' who have given them many millions.

After that, it'd be onwards and upwards.

Well yes logically they should stabilise what they have and I guess that's what they're trying to do.

But honestly there is nothing I see that gives me any confidence they can do this.

The MVP is a classic example - how can you have a company with loads of qualified people seemingly have no idea what they can produce and when?

And even if they do somehow manage to get something out by the end of the year - which tbh wasn't on the cards as soon as CR voiced his doubts about doing that - the reality is that CR actually saying he's not sure they will hit a date is the same as a normal person saying there is zero chance they will hit a date.

I'm struggling to see a positive with all the new competition snapping at their heels nevermind ED.

At the moment I am more on the PTU 2.4. Also I consider E :D unplayable until the instant kill weapons on NPC are fixed.

Well "fixing" the insta kill weapons is just a tweak - it's a decision.

Fixing the bugs in the PTU has apparently eluded a 300 strong dev team for 6 months.

Well - apart from turning the space ocean off - that was a win!

in case you missed it - someone just declared ED "unplayable", whilst still playing SC.

You are boring, are you still harping about a single bug that eluded the devs for month and that did only appear under very specific circumstances? I was also not aware that 2.4 was in development for 6 month. :p

You could ask yourself, are the Frontier devs and the AI programmers even playing their own game? From their initial responses to the issues I have some doubts.

While the 6 month development of 2.1 was very long the actual beta testing was too short. There was never a full long term test with all material acquisition, NPC balancing etc. or the issues would have been noticed.

Boring - how dare you!? I've never been so insulted in my life!

Now I've got that off my chest and have almost stopped hyperventilating with sheer rage - I didn't say 2.4 was in development for 6 months (technically it's the culmination of nearly 5 years but let's not split hairs) - no I was talking about the bugs that have been publicly on display in all the videos since 2 whatever it's called was launched last year.

Perhaps you missed them?

That is enough for you to not play the game? LMAO man, I wonder why play ED at all, its just going to get harder from now on. As it was supposed to by design. Hiding under a rock will not help at all.

Sorry mate, I'm poking a bit around here, I just find this utterly amusing. :D

Afraid of the NPC's, oh boy oh boy......

Good thing CR pledged to treat us backers with respect, as if we were the publishers.

I have no idea - I'm not acksherlly playing ED at the mo.

Have I been deceived!?

There's a massive thread-naught about the new AI which contains a lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth, just like after every other AI update since release. There's some rumors about NPC's with rapid fire PA's or something but the people repeatedly spamming the same video (NPC rapid fire weapon, maybe a bug maybe an upgrade) are also demanding an AI nerf so big pinch of salt.

It'll calm down in a week or so, it usually does. There's a poll (woohoo) if you want to vote on the new AI.

I've found the new AI to be really good fun, challenging but nowhere near impossible.

Threads here : https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=254585

My TLDR was pretty much it though.
