The Star Citizen Thread v 4

Before long we'll start seeing people "triggered" by posts mentioning a certain someone and they'll need a Safe Space to discuss how brilliant a certain other project is without any possibility that constructive criticism or indeed differing opinion could darken their day ;)

lol, some of us started that safe space years ago.
I've been part of a Star Citizen Organization since June 2013 (mid-sized org...100-200 members), and one thing I can clearly remember is how a lot of us really don't like the RSI forums.

Over the years we've implemented stricter and more passive recruitment methods in order to weed out 'certain personalities' to put it politely.
We simply don't like drama.

And I said that's because Derek has his own dirt and is in no position to attack someone else's work. See, he deserves it.     for tat. Eye for an eye. If he stopped we'd all happily leave him alone. But he doesn't want to leave Chris and co alone, so he'll continue to get it back.

I think Derek Smart will "outsmart" you guys, because you all seam to be blinded by some obvious facts regarding CIG and project SC.
But only history will know in the end. We will know in 2018 who was right and who was wrong.

(My opinion only)

Derek Smart's name gets thrown around by CIG like a cheap magicians smoke bomb. It distracts the audience temporarily while unseen manipulation goes on behind the slowly rising haze. Derek Smart! *poof*

Take every single Tweet, post, comment, video and blog from Derek Smart and delete them, as if they never existed. That takes away a lot of noise. Then what are you left with?

The best comparison I can compare Star Citizen to is a new housing project on a grass field. There’s a lovely model home that’s been there for years. It’s full of glossy color brochures and large maps showing how wonderful things will look like at some point in the future. Streets, schools, parks, bus stops, etc. Yet when you look around the field, you see nothing but a series of lots marked off in flag tape with “SOLD” signs. Pipes and electrical cables stick out of the ground in odd places and many utility trenches have been dug, then refilled, then re-dug. In adjoining fields, more lots are being prepared to be placed on the market. There’s lots of sales people and advertising everywhere. Promise and anticipation are in the air, but no actual houses. When you ask when the houses will be ready to move in, the sales people say “soon.”

How is DS responsible for this? If he isn't, who is? I'll leave that question here.

People who say DS is the cause of all of CIG's troubles are naive at best. He has nothing to do with the project in any capacity. It's like blaming me for the NMS delay.

The deadline concerning refunds for non-delivery has passed as of midnight last night.

https://forums.robertsspaceindustri...n-if-star-citizen-is-not-released-by-may-2016

We'll see how CIG handles that. Will they give the backer's money back, or change their ToS, delaying it yet again?

Oh boy you did it, you made me do this!!

I present you project Star Citizen!

You guys make fun of him on every single post in that sub.
You're obsessed with ridiculing the guy because he doesn't like your company and is public about it

But when we occasionally make fun of Croberts, we're "personally attacking the hard work of someone trying to build a game"

Again, utter hypocrisy.

Yes.
Same with anyone who does not speak with 100% complete and utter optimism about the project.

Take Corpsealot for example. His video still holds true today. He's not saying SC sucks - but his arguments are completely ignored, as you can see in the comments. For example he mentioned how the change of scope has affected development, and it's like the commenters didn't even bother to listen what he had to say before they posted.

And lo and behold, almost 50% downvotes. And loads of derisive comments against him on the subreddits back then when that video was new.

Completely normal reaction from an extremist backer when a dissenter is spotted.

The topic is sliding here, here is something about Star Citizen : CIG release this doc today : https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/15362-BTS-The-PCap-Team
It talk about the performance capture for SQ42 and SC in general, in those two page in particular they say that the capture for the first episode of SQ42 is done and is nearly 500 pages of script and around 50 scenes.

That give a good idea of the state of this part of the game.

Yeah sure tell me about it...I remember when I want to have a rational talk few years back on the SC forum about the few burning questions....Never insulted anyone just stand by my point and yet I received dozen of the private messages like go&die in your corner and that kind of type, even worst than this was on the few post that I read later It was so obvious bashing and even open insulting by the "cult"members to the some of the ppl. who dare to think differently....and yet mods always keep the side with you know "who".......I mean it's clear as you can see what kind of messages Corpsealot getting it or the number of the downvotes on his videos....now multiple all of that hate&negativity by x1000 and that's maybe what Derek Smart getting it in his every day life by this kind of ppl..........

So its ready in Q4 2016?

"Chris' ambition is to have the game feel as 'living' and filmic as possible. So every moment, even the little encounters, need to feel real and alive."

Living AND filmic. Well, that's a tall order for a bunch of janky cutscenes. Man, he's still stuck in the FMV 90s... frozen in amber!

Well I hope so because it should be a possibility in every game.

Judging by the Morrow tour they'll be the interactive type of cut scene first made popular by half life. It's what all the cool games do now, a character progresses the story by yapping out dialogue and performing mo-cap, while you are free to throw around the contents of their desk or just jump on their head.

The performance capture is ready according to this document, but after the performance capture there is a lot of work to create the cutscene itself (environment and stuff).
I imagine that they didn't wait until the performance capture was finish to start this work but I have no idea how many time it take.

Yeah I was thinking about the Bishop speech kind of cutscene but that true that the Morrow tour kind will not be skippable.

*Mod hat off

*snip*

Honestly, can we get a more senior moderator to take a look at this thread? It has become basically a SA soapbox and outlet for a competitor of your companies game to damage another company via fraudulent actions. Urging them for mass chargebacks for example.

Thank you.

Edit:

All other feel free to report this but I also demand that the matter is brought to a Frontier Ltd. employed supervisor of the moderation team.

Fantastic, so here you have trusted proof that it works and can be done. Now it's not so hard to believe that Star Citizen can have it as well eh? :D

What we have is evidence that the Cobra engine can do it, and I have seen crowds over over 2000 in my park on my PC. It's really cool! We have absolutely no idea if starengine is capable of similar things.

I have an npc related question: does it really matter if different players see the same NPCs in the same space, or can they be generated locally? For small numbers I expect it would be noticeable (and also probably easier to sync); however, if there were 50 npcs in a room or more, who's going to check? If they can be local, it would make CIG's job a lot easier

KS's ToS and CIG's ToS are near enough identical whether you backed on KS stage or on CIG's Website is irrelevant, in either case you backed for them to make a game and this is what they are doing, the Nov 2014 date Derek keeps moaning about was clearly stated on the KS page as a Estimate and under no definition of the word in the English language equates the word estimate to either a deadline or a concrete unwavering promise. You can yell as much as you like about how annoyed/angry blah blah that you are, that like Derek Smart's unqualified and uneducated opinion is irrelevant, you do not get to dictate terms to CIG or any other developer for that matter.

Go ahead and watch any of the backers of the Oculus Rift try and dicate terms to Facebook about what they can and can't do with the Rift and see what happens..........

Speaking of conspiracy theories...get a grip mate. This place was fairly civil before dsmart and the SC brigade showed up. Sure there were some heated debates and hyperbole for either side but for the most part this was a fairly straightforward discussion of SC for those more interested in ED or have a negative outlook on the project.

Some of our members press pretty hard for sources and what not. We know those sources don't exist so the exercise is meant to expose but ends up being ultimately futile in furthering the discussion.

I'll tell ya, I'll be much happier when dsmart and all the new joiners just shove off.
