FDev, please show a bit more respect for your players time.

That Doesn't make the complaints any less valid just because it hurts your feelings.

I don't care if people are rude to me, all i care about is that the issue that the OP and everyone else in this thread is talking about is addressed by Fdev, and dealt with. Thats all that matters.

The "Rudeness" is literally a non issue. You want to talk about "rude?" what about the smug, condescending attitude your speaking to me with?

No, it's not all that matters I'm afraid, and the rudeness is an issue. Nothing damages a good argument more than making it badly. People will disagree with you purely because they want you to be wrong, and will be disinclined to agree with you because they don't want to be seen to condone your attitude.

If you feel strongly about something it is worth taking your time to get your point across calmly and rationally - that way you are more likely to convince people, FDev included. Please, this is something I feel strongly enough about that I have written close on 3000 words now in this thread, and I can honestly say that the best thing you could do to help convince people is to either play nicely, or step away from the keyboard.

I gave PowerPlay 3 weeks..
I gave CQC 10 days..
I gave the engineers 5 days...

Ok thats it for me. See you guys in 2.2

So, the FSD should have been a bit more like this;
Grade 1; 15-25% (no side affect)
Grade 2; 25-35% (some side effect, mainly negative)
Grade 3; 35-43% (mixed side affects)
Grade 4; 43-47% (mainly positive)
Grade 5; 47-50% (positive)

That's an excellent suggestion. A part of the issue you are quite right is the huge stat swings and the fact that the early upgrade are mostly not particularly useful. While not perfect your suggestion would be an easy fix that would significantly redress the balance. +1

You have a talent for politeness, bud. I envy you :)

Have some more +rep! :)

Wasted 3 hours relogging the mission board to try and get missions for modular terminals because greedy Marco wants 25 of them. This is horse crap and a total waste of time.

Everything has its price. If it's a commodity I should be able to purchase it from SOMEWHERE. Having missions only supply certain commodities is gamey and is simply forcing people to use a mission system that they may not even want to get involved in.

When I sit down to have a bit of game time Elite is always right up there on the list to play but most evenings I think - "couple of hours, probably not worth it, not really sure what I want to be doing" - and then I play something else. I love space games, and Elite always was THE ONE, but I seem to spend more time fiddling with it rather than really engaged. Maybe it's me, but in this respect I agree with the OP.

7 hours grind for 4 rerolls on class 4 shields. Rng played a joke on me and all rolls went down the drain - shield was worse than my c3 :]

This is exactly why players like myself believe most of the additions FD has added are useless in most circumstances. Why in the world would you spend soooo much of your time Which is very limited in my case for SLIM chance you Might get "SOMETHING" <----(not sure what) better than what you have if your lucky. If I wanted that type of game I would play an MMORPG (or D&D). The point is.... No matter what excuse FD uses (the engineers cant duplicate because they are too absent minded to remember what they did?) to explain away their mistake for roleplaying engineers. It is really bad thinking. If I spend 7 hours getting money, supplies and missions. I SHOULD be able to choose my upgrade and balance the stats as I see fit within a certain range or something. WHY you ask? Because this is a thousand of years in the future and I can (in present time) take my car into the shop and tell the mechanic/engineer exactly what I want to upgrade/hotrod within limits and he can do it. sure some mechanics are better than others but still it will be better/faster and what I wanted. Same can be said for jet fighters. Tell Lockheed M you want better missile racks and they do it and then they do it multiple times exactly the same. It is not worth all the work you have to put into it as the current system is. And the only way it is (it's still really not). Is if you are bored with everything else and then it's just....Hey what the hell. I know I sound like a naysayer. But I really am not. I have supported and backed ED from the beginning. I loved it (well the idea) I have played every chance I get. And still do (well until engineers). I have just come to realize FD is going in a different direction than I believe we were told the game would go. Hell I would rather have a storage system and a way to trade with other players and a real way of salvage and some type of usable loot key word usable when you destroy someone.

This has been said a hundred times. I have a few hours, should I log into Elite and...spend most of those hours doing nothing or find another game to play that entertains me. On top of that, I read the missions would be fixed but I hear they're still bugged so I'm even less likely to log in now. Robigo runs were taken away so you can't stack them to make them challenging (I've never done a run before you ask) so the only exciting thing to do is now gone and the AI is OP/bugged/too easy still - however, we got new voices when landing so it all balances out!

I'm sorry to say that I have the exact same issue. I work very long days, and may only get an hour to play a day, sometimes two. There is very little meaningful progress that can be made in ED in that shirt a time frame. Travel alone can take up a fair chunk of time, and that's if I'm not changing ships, let alone the actual activity itself. For sort gaming sessions, other games are just more rewarding.

I absolutely love ED, I really do, I just wish the delevoper balanced the gameplay between "casual" and "core" players.

Methinks I need to repost that Extra Credits video.

Do repost it. :)

45 hour work weeks (less than some, I know).
+ A wife who dislikes video games
+ Two little girls to spend time with and teach
+ Woodworking projects that need to be tended to for that extra spending money (paint jobs?! CMON!)
= Not very much time to play Elite.

I love this game, have loved it since Beta. It's beautiful, the community can be fun, the rivalry between factions is great, but I find myself in the same boat as a lot of the other contributors to this thread. Because of the above reasons I only get about 6 hours a week I can devote to the game and last night I wasted 3 of them in return for nothing. It's frustrating and it makes me want to play something else. 3 hours of jumping systems, exploring USS' (praying that the type I needed would spawn), changing my pinned blueprint to something that might be easier to find mats for, scouring nodes on planet surfaces and all I had to show for it was a tiny basket of materials that literally do absolutely nothing for me. On top of that, I need enough mats to pay for at least a couple of rolls in case I get something that's not too great from the RNG. Add that to the time commitment Elite needs and I feel like I'm staring at another relationship. I don't need another one of those.

The only thing I could add is this is a game for the long run. I play it an hour at a time, not in long stints, yet I've made lots of progress. If you ignore the time critical bits (power play) as I do, and just do a mission at a time, or trade/fight a little, there is no need to do long sessions.

As your not really competing against any timescale or other people, there is no need to rush and no pressure to play

I like *some* RNG elements in the game, but not this much. Surface materials gathering is especially painful as we have no way to know whether or not the materials exist on that planet ... so not only do you have the RNG of being able to find rare materials in the first place, but the RNG of whether or not the planet even has that potential material to start with.

At least with the other wreck based materials, you can control RNG by targeting those things that are more likely than not to drop what you need.

And all that without being sure whether or not you'll get what you want at the Engineers.

So yeah ... some RNG good. Too much RNG bad.

Ah, easy fix for you mate. Sell your children - you can get quite a lot on the black market. Your wife will leave you almost instantly and you'll have more than enough money to buy all the paint jobs you want. Then you'll be able to divide your time equally between work and Elite. Problem solved!

;)

Get your wife to play OctoDad with you! It'll be the perfect, stress free game to get her to change her mind about gaming and then she'll be grabbing for your joystick so much,.... ahem... :p
