Rare Commodities List!

Nice one, keep posting please!

I'm currently visiting all the Rares sites to liquidate my 78 strong Bookwinder fleet in favour of new Galactic bookmarks! (So excited!)

I shall be updating a list. But will also post here as I visit them.

I think this is a very nice tool and perhaps I am doing something wrong but the information it gave me was wrong as far as I can see. I was in Tacare and put that into the "Special Star Systems" box which told me that a black hole and a neutron star were in HIP 16628 which was not far 12.6ly from my next destination in Quechua. As I have never seen nor found either a black hole or a neutron star on my own I decided to have a look so I went to Quechua, sold my trade cargo and set off. All I found was two stars 16628A&B as shown in the two screenshots. Now perhaps it is me missing something obvious to others and if so I apologize and hope to be set right.

Your are correct, a mistake on my behalf. Very sorry if it caused you any troubles, but thanks for letting me know. I doubled checked some of the others and they are correct. There are no black holes within the bubble AFAIK.

So it's looking like 40% of rare goods are unavailable due to conflict.
.
I wonder if it's worth bringing up the issue of pathetic rare good spawn rates, as even the "rares are rare" supporters must admit that rare goods are becoming endangered.

Agreed.

I was thinking of the need to forward a response to FD.

1 - To find out what/when/where/how the BGS changes have had a knock on effect with Rares and
2 - Were any of those effects on Rares intended?

I am guessing they are not intended changes.

When I first looked at Rares there was a lot of negativity around them. However, with a bit of effort and planning, you can make a good thing out of Rares. The main key is cooperative play - Patsy has put together a fun menu to promote commanders to shuttle to and fro to select Rares sites. We were putting together a second part of the Rares Metro Route Planner with these select routes plotted. All this to show just how well Rares can work.

HOWEVER - Patsy's menu has been ripped to shreds!

It is an interesting element to have one or two Rares disappear, and put efforts together to try to reinstate them.

But, the current situation is seriously endangering Rares altogether. There is no practical way for a Rares interest group to coordinate efforts for nearly half of the Rares sites! And what about on the next BGS tick-over? Are we going to see more sites flipping on and off?

I don't have a full understanding about what exact technical issues are knocking Rares off - but there is are two elemets there at least - WAR and CORPORATE -

FD need to take a serious look at the mechanics that govern Rares, and maybe ring fence them off a bit so that they aren't so volatile in their reactions to the BGS. At this rate it will kill Rares as an occupation for me. There is no possible way to 1) update Rares maps/list on a weekly basis and 2) no way to formulate game play around Rares that may randomly blink out in a couple of days.

We are putting together activities that are based on Rares, and while I don't expect them to remain permanent, the current state is untenable.

The Rares have just become Chaotics!

I'm about 2 more evenings from completing the list, but we've seen enough to judge I think!

I have found a lot of interest for my gameplay based around Rares, but this is going the right way to destroying this element. As time goes on and new players enter the game, the work we've all done on Rares means people can instantly get into a gameplay element that normally they may not have heard about before.

Something needs to be done!

From my perspective, I will go along with the forthcoming community goal to create a new version of Wolf Fesh, the existing action to liberate HIP 118311 Swarm and a speculative venture to see if 16 Lyrae is the home of Lyrae Weed but after that, no more. Until there is stability for rares, it's pointless doing any more than minor faction change to restart missing rares.

if it would be at least countered ... let's say, boom bringing max allocations up to 30-60, and spawns are trippled ... and if boom would bring rare goods profits over the top ... one could search for comparing rare boom systems...

Yeah a balance to the dynamism would be a good idea. I get the feeling Rares are a bit unloved and forgotten by FD!

I still don't quite understand what has exactly happened.

Why so many at once?

?? BGS changes that affect markets in general for Coporation government and for WAR status that have had an unintended affect on Rares?

Or - the Rares mechanic being tweaked?

I do hope that FD listen and react. There is a small group of dedicated commanders who have put a lot of time and effort in to Rares. And I was confident that by the work of those very few commanders, many more would benefit and pick up Rares and take part in unofficial community goals and activities based around Rares. Just lately the multi-Rares activities were expanding. And Rares CGs were becoming more popular to request. A big kybosh on that!

Similarly, I shall be watching this space.

Yeah, rares were hard enough to find, being one little line in the commodity list at a random station. If every little status change affects their actual availability... I hope they become more reliable again.

I dropped by Jotun and Tarach Tor last night. Both Jotun Mookah and Tarach Spice are for sale.
Jotun is going to need watching as someone is trying very hard to oust the Dukes. There is a civil war between two of the smaller factions.
Tarach Tor is interesting, as the Guardians are at about 85% influence. Three of the minor factions are in retreat. The Guardians weren't pending expansion, but I guess that will happen soon.

to be fair, rares got some focus via at least 3 engineers requiring them for access.

Yeah true, and there have been an increasing number of Rares CGs, either to create or just involving them, but they have had to make adjustments - it's the way these things plug into the BGS I guess.

And that's it, it's just a guess!

I still have a lot of mileage with Rares - mapping the Rares and running Patsy's Leathery Egg trading company.

I've not played MMOs before, but I've started to learn to wait a while after big updates, so we'll see what happens.

Do we have any actual concrete word from FD about any coded relationship to the Rares mechanic from the 2.1 update, or is it all chaotic unknown background movement?

here:

The 'missing' Soontill Relics is because the controlling faction is currently at war, which reduces rare production, and in this case to zero. Later this afternoon we'll tweak the numbers so you should always be able to get one in this particular case.

Virtual rep ++ Count, I must have over-repped you in the recent past.
I'm guessing/hoping this is all an unwanted side effect of BGS changes in 2.1, and that there will be a positive reaction from FD to address this, some sort of ring-fencing of Rares to protect them against the new volatility sounds like an excellent idea.

For me it is pointless trying to maintain my own tables and republish CSV extracts, it changes over minutes, not weeks ATM, very frustrating!

It would be really nice if they would at least apply the Soontill Relic fix to all the rares, so that the spawn is always at least one; and then maybe have a spawn / max_cap bonus for systems in boom. Plus a fix for the GalMap so that the state-filter gives the actual state of the system!

I'd actually like the rares to be a bit more dynamic, but having them switch off completely because of wars that don't even involve the station's controlling faction is too much for me.

It would also be great if banned products (rare or otherwise) that would be produced if the government was the correct type could be bought on the black-market. I've wanted a buy/sell blackmarket for ages and was reminded about it while moaning about this on the Buckyball discord.

I'd have absolutely loved to have been able to smuggle Indi Bourbon out of Mansfield Orbiter during the ban! :D

Or how about a dodgy geezer offering you a mission - "Here, pssst - if you can get me 50t of Narcotics, I can get you 15t of Wuthielo Ku Froth from a contact I have"

The mechanism for that is pretty much there with the new rewards. You'd need to get nice and friendly though so they'd trust you.
