Engineers Frontier needs to make finding materials much easier

It's great! Really great!
You are not intended to get all mods in 2hours of your free time.
I myself looking further to get all mods for my 2 ships and i hope i'll get at least 5grade FSD range at weekend.

I don't think it's a grind, time waste or whatever. I play casual and i really like all this materials gathering, even surface materials.

Quite. I plan to Pin a mod, And fly around getting the stuff I need as and when. Fly missions,      about with community goals and generally enjoy myself.

Once again we see a disconnect between FD and some players.
This was never intended to be a grind-fest by FD but something (materials) that you just picked up while doing other activities/types of gameplay kind of forced upon you by FD (wrongfully or right) by where these materials are located and how to get them.
The idea that a certain subset of players would just "grind" continuously to get these upgrades in a week apparently was never considered by FD.
Clearly FD's vision for their game, and that of some players, is not connecting. But it's your game players...play it how you want.

Let's see how do I play the game.

I need 4 modular god****m knows their name.

Game's Rules: search the station and the mission's reward.

Over 30 station's checked and still no mission so far.

Now, jumping froma station to other isn't my way of fun.

Result: bad design here.

Stop making guilty the customer for something he didn't commit!!

Yeah, what everyone else says. I get materials coming out of my butt. :D Every wanted ship i down drops lots of mats, and every time i land on planets i get data and mats as well. I have played a couple of hours and i have hundreds of materials so far.

Have you considered that if it's considered precious then rather than hopping from one place to another you could gain the trust of the factions at one station and see if that helps?

Its not related other than that friends/allies give more missions, the fastest way is to mode switch to refresh the boards and if your unwilling to do that it is to station hop.

Modular terminals don't seem that rare to me so far but of course RNGesus has decreed that I see these from time to time and never a variety of other things i'm looking for :p, the real problem is the mission pool seems to have almost everything in it as a reward which means your chances of finding a specific "mission only" component are reduced by the weight of stuff you can get from elsewhere.

I am now convinced that Specialized Legacy Firmware simply does not exist, it is a unicorn that shoots lasers at my hope of building some sweet-ass thrusters.

It exists, I know I found one yesterday, it was a scan from a uss, inside the uss was a satellite, I had not seen this kind of uss before

What's the massive rush to unlock the highest Tier mods straight away...we're less than week into 2.1 and people are complaining they haven't got Tier 5 yet!!!

Materials in conjunction with RNG is pretty tough. One of those things should be eased up, yes.

Lets remember Witcher 3, for example. Not entirely 100% correct to match with, but still (since Witcher is mostly hand-crafted). I do remember in Witcher for some higher level sword among with other components I needed some flower. I couldn't find it anywhere. I went online, searched forums and then someone said he was able to find that flower only in one location - which is obviously connected to a top-level monster. When I was ready I went there, killed a monster, got the flower and completed my sword crafting.

I actually KNEW that all my efforts are paying off - I am going to get that exact sword that I wanted for days.

With Elite currently, you may spend days of finding one specific material. Then you go to Engineer and you run a bad lottery-casino run and that's it. Nothing else but frustration and feeling of a wasted time.

P.S. Yesterday I rolled a 1-star upgrade for multicannon 8 times (with common materials, I've had them enough for 8 runs) and was not able to get a normal upgrade with any single special effect. I felt robbed and very disappointed in the end.

I think we have to admint that some participants in this thread have simply no luck in finding the stuff they need.
I also think the the guys that find their stuff very fast should realize how lucky they were.
I think getting stuff is not really skill related. Even searching forums for hints might not help the bad luck guys. So maybe we need some missions with mod related rewards. Replace the iron reward with Arsenic, Yttrium, Polonium and whatever is seldom.

I personally had mixed results: tons of arsenic, tungsten, vanadium but only 2 Yttrium and no polonium...

Have fun :D

Another "I want it and I want it now" thread.
OP, how about some patience. This is NOT about getting the best of everything this week. This is about being given another set of things that can be done and are likely to take "quite a while". That's no different to trying to make Elite, King or whatever status in game.

Look,

I am 100% federation allied and 100% empire allied and in the sector I have checked I am allied to almost all (if not all sometimes) factions over there.

Usually there are 20 missions (in total) in can choose and try to guess: not a single one with such reward.

Considering that reward can be get - as far as i know - by a mission - i can't find - i can't conclude this is a very bad design.

One more thing.

I am lte so i was in beta: even there there wasn't time to test the upgrade leveling with engeneers so we get fish to improve module and rank.

Withouth a feedback, that's the result....

I support this thread.

1. More information, short of exactly where to go, needs to be provided to the player on how to obtain mats required for an Engineering upgrade.

2. Scale RNG exponentially against mat level, but give the player confidence that there current location is the correct one... hours of wasted time is fun for no one!

3. For receiving of mats via non-specific gameplay (eg mission reward), provide storage... I have 4x LVL4 mats but I have no idea if/when I will need them. They have taken up 25% of my 16 ton cargo hold!

4. Allow me to determine what I might need for all available upgrades for all available engineers anywhere in space... see point 3 above.

5. General requirement - Galaxy map bookmarks is a good start, but a player should not have to keep going to google (or fan site) to discover vital data required to achieve something... it should be available in game somewhere.

Question (if someone would be so kind to answer). If I have upgraded a particular module to LVL 1 say, is that modification applied to my character (account) or to the ship or to the module? If I have to swap modules in/out will I loose the modification associated with that module? or will it appear again when I buy and install that module again?

Thanks.

Unfortunatly for you some people have already get level 5 in 2 days Fsd so there is a great unbalance here over the players who in 7 days, still can't get module 3 Fsdbecause of the lack of components (that can't find due to a bad Fd design).

By the way: if you don't have anything to add to discussion refrain from it and do a trhead on your own instead...

Only reason I have lvl 5 with Felicity Farseer is because I sold a ton of my distant worlds data there.

Unfortunately I DO have something to add, which I did think I'd made perfectly clear, i.e. that I believe it to be a GOOD thing for the grind to take a while.
If the only people who responded in this thread were all in agreement with the OP, then FD might well get the impression that they need to respond to his wishes.
As such, it's highly appropriate for me to make my point that I think we're good as is.

And before you ask, I have NO upgrades on any of my ships as yet. Sure, I've been to my first 4 engineers and have started to gather materials, but I've got nothing as yet.
Again, and to re-iterate, i don't believe that it's a necessity to have to keep up with people who already have fully uprated ships. Play this game at whatever pace you're comfortable with and don't worry abou the rat race. It's a lot more enjoyable.

IMHO, the only type of "material" that needs addressing are the Mission Only Components.
All the others can be picked up in normal play, 7 days is NOT enough time to judge them when starting from scratch. Nobody should be expected to carry around rare cargo just on the off chance that it might someday be usefull.
