Game Discussions The No Man's Sky Thread

Sad if that's true, but this has to be said;
Marketing         . If you get something real threatening, you go to legal authorities, not to your fanbase (or audience). Because that immediately flags you as a desperate advertiser.
Are they attracting attention with this? Yes. Marketing. More people will hear about the game.
I would get attention too, if I make a post like "Help, people are threatening me! Please help! I'm a dead man!"

Death threats? Refunds demanded over a delay of a paltry six weeks? Hysteria that the game is in "trouble"?

There is no lowest limit to the depth of stupidity of which some humans are capable.

Yeah, you'd think they'd pre-ordered Elite: Dangerous or something ;)

I've been having a good think about this.

Whatcha reckon - they've said in interviews that the worlds they've shown so far are actually pretty unusual and it'll be rare to find vibrant full life planets, they've said that the planets in the previews have been artificially close together for easier demoing and that it might easily take you half an hour to fly between planets, that you'll spend most of your time scrubbing resources not out pewpew or prettypretty and they've got people excited about the idea of multiplayer.....

I think they've done their final more public beta and been hit by a er... excrement storm of misaligned expectations. Just looking at how people get the very wrong idea with ED and how people have been getting utterly insane ideas about NMS I fear they may have made some mistakes in how they've sold it. I could count the realistic expectations I've heard on pretty much one hand

Hard to tell yet. I guess there is one thing you can count on: Every game developer / publisher wiil overhype his/her own games to some extent. Some devs do it more than others. It is just to be expected, so manage your expectations.

Wait and see.

You're a mod here and you expect people to do that? ;)

It seems a lost art. Expectation management used to be a little thing, now it's HUGE. It's probably a good thing that people have so much optimism but it must be slightly scary for the developers.

ps. i'm in guildford if hello happen to read this and want to give me a go :D

Some people seriously need to expand their horizons.

The game was delayed by a single month...the outcry is shameful.

I'm glad because I am addicted to Stellaris at the moment, so NMS can wait :)

I'm not at all bothered by the delay but then I waited a little bit longer for Elite Dangerous to happen along. Also patiently waiting for Limit Theory. Delays are almost inevitable and there really is no big issue here.

The game was delayed by 7 weeks...

There. Fixed that for you.

Btw now I"m patiently waiting for Dual Galaxy, if it ever comes out...apparently an alpha should come out early next year.

Interesting speculation. It could be a lot of things - issues with code optimization is my thought. It's possible that once the final development phase was reached someone came up with a strategy for refining rendering, for example, which whilst compelling would require re-coding several thousand lines plus testing. Sean may have gone with this. Also, a possible feature that was considered out of reach suddenly became possible, but also required fairly hefty re-code, and yes, it could just be a late reworking of something pretty basic that had to be fixed for release.

I'm less inclined to think it's all due to some big problem - more likely it's the opportunity to refine the game so it is blow-your-mind good on day 1.

Well with it being so sunny over the last couple of weeks. I think late September early October might be better. ;)
.
Don't want to miss all that sunshine do we..:D

Every video I've seen keeps showing the same 6 planets over and over. It looks interesting but rather arcadey. I guess we'll see when it finally get released.

Does anyone know if it has HOTAS support?

Still no official info about that, but honestly I don't think it will have multiple controller support from the start.
Proper single joystick support - most likely yes.

As far as delay is concerned I have no idea what to think of this. "Polishing" stuff could happen via post release patches so I1m afraid they hit some serious performance issues with one of the platforms.

Precisely.

There was one video I was about to stop watching with my finger hovering over the back button when I realised it was actually a different demonstration but the first two planets were identical and Sean had done exactly the same things on them in exactly the same places - presumably it's their demo solar system and has the life/awesome sliders up to max

And yea this one reference to systems being much larger and life being thin on the ground. Expectations are a vile and cruel mistress - I really hope they don't fall foul as what they've done does look incredible

HOTAS is I think expecting too much of it. The flight looks very point+squeeze arcadey in every single video. There's barely anything on the displays

It will be a bit poorly if it doesn't have HOTAS support.

Why? It's primarily a console game, and there are no HOTAS setups for any of the current generation of consoles.

Because it will be pants to play on PC, that's why. Flying with a mouse and keyboard is rubbish.

Also its not primarily a console game. Sony picked it up mid way through its development. It was originally announced for PC.
