The higher ranked NPCs are not worth fighting against in anything that is not combat ship with a high pitch rate and good maneuvering thrusters.

It's just a boring strafing and backward flying game. Waiting until the security comes and then collecting the microstuff.
For me the new AI is worse from a gameplay point of view. Harder to fight, sure. More fun/interesting/challenging to fight? No.

What ship are you flying then?

What ship are you flying then?

Since 2.1 I fought (or tired to fight) NPCs in a DBS, DBX, Keelback, FAS and Vulture.

In 2.1.1 I fought with a heavily modded DBX against a Deadly Vulture.

pre 2.1.1:
The most stupid fight was against a Deadly FAS in a FAS. For, what felt like the, first two minutes it was just touching noses while maneuvering around like crazy and the NPC instantly keeping track of every single maneuver. After that the security forces arrived and the NPC flew around a bit more ignoring the heavy incoming fire form the security force NPCs (3-4 small shis, 1 Anaconda) while still trying to land plasma attacks on me.

For me it's the same - lowest ranks fly beautifully, but have stock outfitting and don't survive long (but will give newbies something to fight). Medium ranks are doable with ease if security ships are around. Higher ranks - I ran. I met two Deadly Anacondas, which got my hull down to 40% in 5 seconds. Thankfully I was in my Cobra.

edit: also just fought Expert DBS with rockets and nice hull upgrades. Used pips at full extent, survived me and two System Security ships enough to jump out with 40%. So do your math.

I think I may slip from my asp to my cobra. I already slipped from my anaconda to asp, but I am doing a lot of data delivery missions so I only need a cobra really and cheap if something eats me.

Good news Commanders,

Due to the recent surge of unsanctioned and illegally modified weapons from the NPC AI over the recent days. The Pilots Federation have agreed to reimburse all insurance payouts made over that period (Between The Engineers (2.1) update and this mornings update).

The Pilots Federation would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your patience and continued support.

Fly safe.

(We'll let you know once this update has gone live)

Even the japanese zero didnt stood a chance against B-29 in WW2

The P-51 Mustang was developed to an RAF specification as a long-range escort fighter for allied bombers - because defending fighters were decimating the allied bombers after the shorter range fighter escort had to turn back....

Harder = more challenging.
People won't gen along... some has fun with easy kills, some need a challenging fight to be fun. One mmo-like game can't be both easy and hard. Some people will have to find different game to play.

I dodn't fight much yet (but I will go to BH CG) but when I fought it was good. Harder but nothing really dangerous yet. Cobra and eagle attacking my mining T9 and it was all right. My clipper vs a vulture was easy. Clipper vs cobra and 2 eagles in res was hard but very satysfying to win. I have expert rank so I assume they were similar. Pythons are as easy as before but this time they actually can shot back one or two times. It's good but I didn't feel any real danger of loosing ship yet. Need to grind my rank up a bit and maybe when I will see more high rank npcs I will change my mind but now it's good imo. For now it's good. I know it will be much harder when I rank up but then I will also learn some more...

He's right. The AI may not be easy like it was but they are easy.
I flew a vanilla T9, no shields, same galaxy as everyone else. No deaths. I had it all except those insta kill weapons.
You can just strafe around your target, or boost around your target. On low level AI you can just boost, turn, boost, turn and just wait until security comes.

Have literally just upgraded to V2.1.02

2 Mins after upgrading whilst Trading (Joke) in Solo,
Attacked by an AI Anaconda. My Shields including Anaconda's 5 Boosters disappeared in seconds, No way could I boost away, and lost everything. including Cargoe and re-buy 16000000+
2 days ago lost 21000000+ in exactly the same way.
Mod told me to report it - waste of time as usual - no response whatsoever.

These had to be modified weapons, and he was a lot Faster than I - quite obviously with a fully rated A Anaconda I have been playing for some time.
Except the latest Anni where I had reduced the power to an 8B to try and save on rebuy.

Thanks ED you are doing marvellously. +I do not call this Harassment! you may of course.

That was in mostly in Europe though while the B-29 was mostly used in the Pacific theater. Its best defense was its ceiling. But you are generally right WW2 Bombers where at the mercy of fighters. Post WW2 the situation got so one sided that Bombers no longer carry defensive armament instead relying on speed ceiling invisibility ( to radar ) chaff et al...

2 Mins after upgrading whilst Trading (Joke) in Solo,

You where trading Jokes? And why do you emphasize solo mode?

AI still needs a little more nerf IMO. My anaconda has had 2 "near collapse hull" and HAZ-RES are still out of bounds because of that. I'm just tailing cops in HighRES and taking potshots hoping the AI doesn't turn its attention on me. Not what I intended being in a 'Conda. the FAS/Gunships are pretty much hands-off. I dare not take them still!
Solo Mode player opinion! (braces for backlash and git gud flood)

Edit : this is pre 2.1.02 observation! Will update this once I've tried out the new AI!

Maybe a haz-res just isn't a place to go for a solo mode player. Did you ever think about that? This game is a mmo and there should be some places where you only are able succed if you play in team. Otherwise fdev can just
make it a singleplayer game. ;)

Harder = more challenging.

The high ranked AI is harder, but doesn't do a lot of different things. After a while you know what to do and the only thing remaining is "harder" as in they have better weapons and fly very precise.
The result is not an interesting fight that forces me to adapt to new situations, but simply doing the same thing. For me it's not fun, not because it's too hard for me, but because it's boring.

For me something is challenging if I have to constantly find new solutions to new things. The new AI isn't challenging in that regard.

Below Deadly the NPCs are from ok to very easy. In RES (HazRES, and normal) the NPCs are easy even the higher ranked ones since they get distracted by all the other attacking ships.

Seems everything Dangerous and under is potato'd again...

Isn't the point of the AI changes that they scale according to the players combat rank?

A potato for you may well be a rock for a less experienced pilot.

I just posted this in another thread, then saw this one, so i will post it here too as it refers to post 2.1.02 patch.

I was just interdicted by a Deadly ranked Anaconda, no reason i had no cargo, only limpets, and i got the thermal attack warnings, after reading some posts on here, it may be just normal weapons, or not, you decide. I had 6A shields and a shield booster on my Conda, but shields went down to last ring pretty quick.
But i thought all thermal weapons ect had been removed too in this mornings patch.

2.1 AI knows to fly their ships. Which is nice.

But they don't really have tactics and variations in behaviour, and wings don't really work together so far.

It would be nice is totally outclassed ships just fleeing as fast as possible, instead of having T7's trying to fight.
Or outclassed ships sometimes fleeing while calling for backup would also spice things up.
