Forced minning? Really ??

im playing elite from beta , its almost 2 years now. i spend 80% time in combat. i love combat missions, res, pvp but now when enginners relase i triing upgrading me combat ships and to complet all upgrades im stucket at Selene Jean enginner. he wants me to mine 500 tuns of ore . i really hate you frontier . i really must spend half of week in mining? i really hate you...

I just think it is wonderful you have such a charmed life, you can use the word EVIL and the phrase "I really Hate you" in relation to a computer game and the people that make it.

Never having experience actual Evil or Hate in real life to use it so flippantly.

Went mining for 8 tonnes of some long sounding thing in my battle corvette so tediously boring took half the night. Would never attempt 500 that's just insane.

Well, you can always do a little at a time and eventually get there. It will help gain you missions if you do these things for minor factions.
I'd just recommend beer and good tunes, if you like those kinda things.

You're not forced, you're offered an option: certain upgrades in return for certain activities. Dont want to do it? Don't.

It can be tedious as hell but I prefer mining and gathering the mats that now spawn there than running around for hours in the squirrelly as hell to control SRV.

Well, miners are also "forced" to combat, probably a lot more than "combateers" are forced to mine. Actually, combat is really the only single aspect in this game which is currently "forced" on everyone.

The engineers update favours multi-role players over the one-trick-ponies. The more different things a player does, the easiest it gets to use the engineeers features. Take it or leave it.

Anyway, no one is "forced" to do mining. Just get some different mods that don't require mining. Its not like FD is going to personally call every entitled special snowflake to ask them which mods do they want and how would they prefer to get them.

You have to mine 500t of anything, go to ANY pristine ring and mine, you will have it done in a few hours. If you'd choose to mine Palladium, Platinium, Gold, Painite for credits, yes that will take you long time, but if you'll just collect whatever the rocks drop, it will not take long after you've collected 500t. And there is an Engineer that rqeuiers you to travel 5000 LY from starting system, what you say about that?? Mining 500t is nothing.

Doesn't matter what you mine, so that will speed things up.
But while you are getting your 500 tons, make sure to vary the ring type you mine in to get as many different types of materials. Metallic, Metal Rich, Rocky and Icy rings all give different materials, and this will help immensely with your engineer upgrades.

They have requirements, part of the requirements is adding variety to the game by encouraging players to try things out. Mining 500T of ore really isn't any more time consuming than 1mil of combat bonds or collecting meta alloys from Maia :p they could have made them all unlocked from the start but they are trying to eek some gameplay out of the whole thing which requires hoops to jump through.

I can barely even understand the OP's grammar ._.

Well to be honest it doesn't really even look like it's worth understanding. If there's a point in it it's made rather poorly.

I gotta be honest, I used to hate mining but now I sorta kinda enjoy it. There's something very entertaining about watching the work of 6 collector limpets and an 8 bin refinery.

They have done a good job on the sound effects too

They always do a great job on sound effects! :)

But little things like the hopper automatically allocating resourses to bins, collector limpets, prospector limpets, it's all changed since the last time I tried it. Mining is much better now.

OP's post is a bit childish imho, if same thing would be told different way it might have start pretty interesting discussion...

But about the mining itself, I believe the miners (probably just after hardcore explorers) are experiencing the most lovely looking scenery whle at work:) Especially after 2.1 went live. Combat pilots usually dont have such luck.

It's funny how people express hatred sometimes, without realizing the recipient of that exclamation doesn't bat an eye at such a thing, knowing that the expression of hate for such a futile thing as a game is a sign of an immature person who will be a waste of time to talk sense with anyways.
