The Star Citizen Thread v5

These are absolutely pertinent to the question "why in the name of Christ is there not an actual game yet?"

Ever changing scope and never ending development which allows them to indefinitely collect funds for it.
Brilliant business move and people are already conditioned to accept half-baked games, alphas, betas and early accesses, so why not.

Hey look, bugs in a alpha game, how extra-ordinary :D

Did you check out the Elite Dangerous Alpha back when it came out? That was in December 2013. They started development around the same time they started their Kickstarter. And you can say what you want, but they NAILED space combat. Absolutely nailed it. And that with an engine that they already had (just like Star Citizen started with CE), but had to change significantly because it wasn't being used for space games before.

Bugs are to be expected. SC 2.4 however is not just buggy. It's really quite terrible.

It's useless to go back and point the posts that do that because then I would just be reported for sniping ;)
And no one is blaming Derek, this thread as been hating on the game way before derek, and you "oldtimers" guys know it pretty well.
Resolving to mocking and atacking people and then say that the reason you do it is because "There's nothing to talk because game is $%#"").
Well maybe it is because most here haven't even tried the game in the first place. Actually I bet 90% doesn't even backed or haven't downloaded in the last 2 years lol.
There's so many lies and deceits about it that confuses passing by readers that's screams dishonesty and hate campaign: "no way to get ships without paying rl money" etc.

The 2.3 version of the game is much more stable than the PTU 2.4 version, ofc it is it's been out for 6 months, 2.4 for what? 1,2 months? For a good reason it's not available to everyeone. Yes there are a lot of game breaking bugs there, like there were in the 2.0 version. Remember the disconnects every 5 minutes when 2.0 came? Well now ppl can play for hours no problem, iteration and progress, find bug fix bug, but anyone knows that, anyone that knows game development that is.

No problem in laughing at GAME bugs, glitches, dumb mechanics, dumb UI´s, AI, whatever.
Now attacking CIG staff , Chris Roberts etc is just the low of the lowest...

Sorry, but I just HAD IT with this low excuse of an argument.

Being in ALPHA does NOT means that it has to be bugged, glitched and broken beyond recognition.

Wanna see a proper game in OPEN Alpha : watch this

Before this video I too ingenuously believed that an alpha game was glitched by definition, but guess what, it's NOT !

And to quote the guy in the video "This is what I like to see in an alpha, look at all the s***t we are doing, see how far along we are, look at the potential ! "

A glitched alpha is just proof of poor development, nothing more, nothing less.

Not saying that an alpha will be glitch free, it can be glitchy, but NOT at the extent of the sorry excuse of a game that is SC right now.

And to twitch the knife in the wound, wanna know who is responsible of this amazing game ?

Hint : you are posting on his forum !

Please excuse me a second. My sides have split and there are lulz running all over my monitors.

I think you'll find that a large percentage of people posting here have backed SC to some degree.

If you go back to the very first SC threads here you'll see a different picture. I was certainly a lot more positive and there are quotes from me somewhere praising both DB & CR for their obvious enthusiasm for their respective games. I bought into SC precisely because I saw the video where CR supported DB & ED publicly and I thought that was a classy thing to do for a competitor.

Fast forward a few years and CR seems to have been making it up as he goes along and there have been so many what the eff things along the way that I - and others it seems - reached the point where we won't believe any talk/plans etc. etc. anymore.

Just action and working results will do now - that's all they need to do really - deliver all the things they promised - can't be that hard - surely?

(and if you could somehow bring yourself to just stop name checking DS it might help your cause..)

I think you'll find that a large percentage of people posting here have backed SC to some degree.

That's what happens when... certain elements, say - conveniently divide the world into two camps... one is comprised of the faithful, the backers of the dream, the sharers of The Vision, the alarmingly evocati, Those That Understand Game Development. Despite WILD divergences of opinion, we're apparently in the other camp, despite our pledges or any years of support that are in the past... that doesn't matter now. it's always: how much have you given Chris Roberts lately?

Despite not even being on the same bowling team as Derek Smart, we're all Derek! They actually seriously discuss whether or not we're paid by evil publishers to thwart the Great Work.

Things aren't that simple. All critics aren't cartoonish caricatures of Vanduul to be dispatched with a mighty blast of conventional RSI wisdom and studious chanting of the mantra: "it's not p2w, it's PAY FOR CONVENIENCE!"

Maybe they are just space sim fans who are slightly more suspicious considering the years worth of tapdancing and salesmanship on display.

Edit: IDIOT CONTROL NOW!

Seems @dsmart had a look at his own account https://t.co/YyrQAvvJxm and the tags are hidden client-side by using Javascript. That's gold!

If this is true and can be proven then this is the open discrimination of their customers. One thing is when certain"Cult"members calling you names and other thing is when the company that you payed your money mocking you like this....unbelievable...If this is the true then must be possibility to press charges for customer discrimination?

Yeah comparing Star Citizen with Planet Coaster is not gonna do it sorry. Completely different games and scopes.
What you can do is recognize that bug's happen in all games, more so in games that rely on heavy physics, being it from vehicles or/and avatar's.
Check for Assassins Creed, FIFA, PES, UFC, GTA, Witcher, Uncharted you name it, they all have hilarious bugs compilations on youtube.
The point is, until it's officially released and CIG says, this is our MVP, all the bugs and glitches are part of that work in progress.

This is good discussion, this is discussion about games, this is sharing different opinions and arguing about them, this is what adults do.

You do understand game development, right? :D

It's not much different from what I do for a living.

Concept - Goal - Design - Prototype - Test - Review - Rework - Test - Enhance - Test - Review - Production Test - Review - Production Deployment - Handover - Signoff

It's a convenient out. Their ambition is so huge, so shattering, it can't possibly compare to any game. Except when they want to compare it to existing games to sell their fanbases on the fact that this game might in the distant future incorporate some features from it.

Nobody has ever attempted such a thing. Raph Koster and Star Wars Galaxies is chopped liver, apparently. But fine, dismiss the past. Belittle other attempts... minimize the competition. All it does it ensure you don't learn their lessons and instead repeat the mistakes.

It's just a broken CryEngine mod. They have delivered nothing but promises, jpgs, and janky garbage the die hards insist is some revelation, an immaculate creature that burst from the forehead of it's father.

Innovate, then take your victory lap. This is the first project I've seen congratulate themselves for all their advances before even managing to pull them off. The only project with the arrogance to claim they are "the BDSSE" years away from beta while the competition tears them apart on all levels.

Oh I'm not calling it out, I'm just waiting for someone to post a recent game with avatar's & vehicles that rely's on heavy physics for its gameplay without a bug compilation on youtube.

Not really relevant.I mean we'd expect all sorts of bugs and jankiness from any old game produced by those filthy money grabbing publishers - but surely not the BDSSE - that should set the gold standard!

I don't know about customer discrimination, but it has been suggested elsewhere that the practice of taking a customer's details, stalking him on unrelated sites, linking together his usernames and retaining that information within their own records could be a severe breach of the United Kingdom's Data Protection Act. This is relevant because, moral abhorrance aside, CIG's customer support is based in the UK.
