This is making Trading Impossible

I like to see something like: "Federal Corvette - 30 minutes rampage in high intense Conflict zone".
Elite: Dangerous. Trying out my Federal 'Annihilator' Corvette

(over a week now since 2.1 .. 3rd day in open in a mining build T6 around the CG .. 2 attempted interdictions, 1 successfull that I escaped in my tradevette - died: 0 times .. no idea what you guys are doing, but you're doing it wrong)

I'm running a brand new Clipper (just bought it 2 days ago) and have it A rated with shield boosters. I have NO weapons. I have no real problems with NPCs. They interdict me and I just boost away until I can go back into FSD. I have not yet lost shields. Most of the time they don't even show up on scanners or are to far away to shoot at me.

Again, I'm here not talking about escaping / running away / Trading / etc.... Combat! That is what I'm interesting now.

Kornelius is that you ? :) This is what you get after a year(s) of grinding :D If you survive :) in real life :)

I don't normally get involved in this type of thread and just play with whatever FD throws at us. However I enjoy trading and as I didn't want to risk my trading Anaconda just yet I used my Combat 'A' rated Python to test out a new trading route. On my first jump I was interdicted by an Elite FDL, he managed to keep beams on me all the time despite me chaffing. I eventually got him down to 48% hull but he was still flying circles around me like a brand new ship, then started firing missiles like confetti. I managed to escape after two further interdictions to the next system, when I was interdicted again by an Elite Clipper, as my hull was now down to 58% by this time, he chewed away at my ship until my first demise in over a year - and a big dent in my Elite combat rating ego

I enjoy the harder AI and long may it continue, but trading now seems impossible in the bigger ships, as the AI always (in my case) seem to be Elite with super powers and weapons. I don't like using the term 'Nerf' as it sounds defeatist, but something needs to be done to make Trading playable again.
Not sure why you stuck around to fight an FDL in a Python. You wouldn't stick around to fight a player FDL in a Python. Your "Elite" combat rank is bunk by the way. That just means you have killed lots of NPCs since players don't make your rank go up. That rank means nothing. Next time if you're trading, more pips to Sys, carry Point Defense or ECM. That should be an obvious lesson when you see missiles flying around. "Maybe I will attach the super cheap module that easily kills missiles next time before complaining."

See :) That is what I talking about - all ships larger that FDL/Python is useless now.

My Clipper does everything...including combat with NPCs. At first, I was getting beat up pretty badly but I started to learn new things. I figured out the best qualities of the Clipper and learned to use them. The style (so awesome now that a real flying style means something) I had developed makes it very hard for the NPCs to hit my (wide as a barn) Clipper. I've been able to work my way up to fighting wings of 2 and winning.

Start thinking about fitting it for combat...it's a real hoot with all that speed and unlimited boost (2.5 PIPs to ENG and it goes and goes)

I have almost all ships ;) so....

Now I'm thinking, why did I spent so much effort to buy Corvette or two of my Condas. Ok, Conda is still good for trading and mining...

777 will promised me a masterclass of "The Right Way To Use Pips In T9" and/or "Agility - not needed in right hands". Thank!

Today I have seen a lots of videos. Sides and Vipers and Eagles (that was amazing!) VS FAS/FDL/Condas. but I didn't see one where Conda can beat elite vulture/Viper/Asp. I like to see something like: "Federal Corvette - 30 minutes rampage in high intense Conflict zone".

ok, so you have almost all the ships in game, yet seem unable to grasp or accept some basic principles being explained about the new ai. and the rationale behind the changes. imagine you were on the opposite side of this conversation, what exactly do you think hearing that implies? its actually a very good example of just how easy we had it before the update, and just how meaningless and trivialised general game play had become. this update has given a new meaning to ship ownership and role selection.. these things really matter now.. there is no best ship for everything. more focus is being placed on the individual player and their skill set. as for repeatedly implying that big ships have been devalued by frontier and credits wasted.. when multi crew and ship launched fighters arrive in game.. it is the bigger ships that will benefit most from them.

I really have no idea why you spent that much time ... but, I can guess HOW you spend time, and how you didn't.

There's practically only one way to earn enough cash to buy a Vette, 2 Condas, and 1 of everything else - and guess what way it isn't?

Answer: spending all your time doing combat, and becoming a good fighter pilot.

Let that sink in for a moment.

That's a fantastic point. Not to say everybody took that route (not that there is any problem with that, did a fair bit of it myself), but I wonder how many people complaining ground their way doing non-combat high payout activities up to the big 'high end' ships and are now struggling to cope.

Speaking for myself, I'm under no illusions about my own lack of skill in regards to combat; just because I made hundreds of millions smuggling and can basically afford any ship I want doesn't make me an ace...but come to think of it, my success as a high dollar smuggler probably IS the primary reason I've not lost a hauler to an interdiction yet. IMO, the trick with this new dangerous universe is to not be too stuck in your ways (unless that's working for you) and be ready to accept that you might have to go back to the drawing board at flight school.

Maybe you should trade in Open then. At least you'll have pirates nice enough to kill the bad guys for you provided you pay your taxes on time...

This...I actually feel safer after I've paid off a pirate. They tend to protect their cattle.

Amazing, Now you think you know everything in this world about me :) ... I hasten to disappoint you :) But you maybe right, I wasn't able to explain myself good enough to let you see my point.

People who moan about getting killed do make me laugh.

This game appealed to me because of the practically unlimited destinations, 'career' paths you can choose and above all - exploration into the unknown !

You are exploring the galaxy guys !!!

Did you ever see Jean Luc Picard moan that a klingons disruptor should be nerfed because it took his shields down a bit quicker than he would have liked ?
Did the Millenium Falcon stop and argue with Imperial forces and ask the Tie fighters to only use half of their guns because they are only a cargo ship ?

Nope - They dealt with it.

Daft analogies aside - Run or fight is a basic decision that you need to make as soon as the inderdiction starts. I press H to see what is interdicting me, then throttle to Zero to submit, by the time I have been interdicted I have already decided whether to run or fight based on my current ship and set up. FSD has normally cooled down before the NPC get in range even. A few boosts and a bit of chaff and you are away every time.

I can honestly say the only times I have died were down to my own stupidity (or too much beer).

I can honestly say the only times I have died were down to my own stupidity (or too much beer).

I'd easily have died half as much, if I wasn't allowed to drink bourbon and fly.

"Hm... (sip)... 2 CMDRs in a Cutter & Vulture wing... (sip)... yeah, I can take that on."

Ok so things didn't go to plan, build was 7A shields, 3 boosters (no engineered shield mods) I had 130 tonnes of mining ore onboard and 7D thrusters - Not exactly the best combat loadout ;)

Flew around in SC for a while, plenty of harmless Eagles, low ranked Vultures etc etc, only got interdicted by a Competent Cobra MKIV

Took measures into my own hands and fitted an interdictor, highest rank Vulture was Master

Took desperate measures - flew to a High intensity combat zone, plan was to lure an Elite Vulture away for a 1v1

Unfortunately after I stripped it's shields and damaged the hull another ship came along and stole the kill, at that point the vulture seemed to be spiralling away out of control, my final shots seemed to disable it's thrusters before the other ships joined in (5:24).

Still, I don't think that was fair on the NPC, I'll keep searching or hopefully get interdicted for a proper 1v1. If I was in a Anaconda instead of a T9 I could have finished him for sure.

Edit - not sure why my life support went off, a war zone is not the best place to be flying a T9 or troubleshooting :)

Because you need 4 pips for firing weapons?

You fire your weapons when taking evasive maneuvers or following an escape procedure? So you transfer pips into weapons when you have a full WEP capacitor and your shields are taking hits?

It's not hard, simple pip management.

Multicannons seem to fire fine on 2 pips + gimballed has a quite decent firing arc, so as long as you know where your ship's hardpoints are (maybe I don't have such issues with the Vette because I'm used to Core Dynamics "helmet wearing special" places to put hardpoints since the Dropship? *), keep the opponent somewhere in that arc, you can do good damage, while having 4 pips for engines or shields.
On the other hands I'm lazy.. as long as it dies, I barely bother. :D

*) funny enough, that sort of placement also makes avoiding enemy fixed weapon fire easier, since you can "strafe" (thruster) up (FDS, FGS, FAS) or down (Vette - even easier, since you actually keep the opponent in sight - in the other ships I was usually shooting "blind" thanks to their cluncy lower cockpit, going by radar and hit display on the scanner image) while "jousting".

I agree with the OP and it's ridiculous that even traders have to outfit their ships to combat. Way too many interdictions everywhere. Also, PIP management is useless if you want to escape. Because if you put all pips to shields then you're slow and can't escape. If you put pips to engines then the AI depletes your shields in seconds and then immediately shoots out your FSD. The game has become too combat focused, that's the problem here. People who like this godlike AI should find it but everyone shouldn't be forced to cope with this.
