UAs, Barnacles & More Thread 6 - The Canonn

Just did a quick check at LBN 623 (same aprox distance between Maia and California), as I remembered this:
permit.jpg

Now it is unlocked, someone scanned it already, there is nothing there but a T Tauri. There is not a single star inside the nebulae, and I checked the starts 'behind' and seem so very procedural.

A quick question for you Bill Nye guys of Elite Dangerous:
When you come across a barnacle site and it's all blown to smithereens, how long until they regrow?
You see, I flew some 400+ LYs to Pleiades (in Open) to obtain some Meta-Alloys for an engineer, I bought some at Darnielle's Progress, I figured I'd
check out the crashed Anaconda and the nearby barnacle site on Pleiades Sector JC-U B3-2 1 and grab a few more Meta-Alloys.
Jumped back into orbit and re-entered, logged out and back in again, switched from Open to Solo and back to Open, the barnacles don't seem to re-spawn.
I tried the 3km method outlined here, but to no avail. Is this another 2.1 bug or just another thing that got borked with the latest update?

Likely nothing, but might be worth pointing out that if you're in Achenar, Pleiades and California overlap pretty much perfectly.

If the Barnacles are engineered, the most likely assumption at this point is that they are human-engineered (simply due to the fact that we don't have another race in-game at this point). If they are human in origin, it might be worth trying to discover how they came to be where they are.

MB confirmed its not a bug but intended. However the barnacles do not drop meta alloys, which is a bug hopefully to be fixed shortly.

Remember what Michael said about it relating to there Origin? The Nebulas? Yes Well. What relates to a Nebula? Well. I did some research and I looked on Wikipedia.

Most nebulae are of vast size, even hundreds of light years in diameter.[3] Although denser than the space surrounding them, most nebulae are far less dense than any vacuum created on Earth – a nebular cloud the size of the Earth would have a total mass of only a few kilograms. Many nebulae are visible due to their fluorescence caused by the embedded hot stars, while others are so diffuse they can only be detected with long exposures and special filters. Some nebulae are variably illuminated by T Tauri variable stars. Nebulae are often star-forming regions, such as in the "Pillars of Creation" in the Eagle Nebula. In these regions the formations of gas, dust, and other materials "clump" together to form denser regions, which attract further matter, and eventually will become dense enough to form stars. The remaining material is then believed to form planets and other planetary system objects.

The words I have highlighted. (T Tauri variable stars) and "Pillars of Creation" Micheal said the barns relate to there Origin. Ive noticed alot of barnicles are found in systems with T Tauri Stars. Ive even heard it mentioned on here before. "Pillars of Creation" is in the Eagle Nebula. It just... sticks out to me for some reasion.

Which part is that? Barnacles not respawning is intended?
Or the part about farming Meta-Alloys as per the linked post?

Thanks for that, you are correct on this, I found a barnacle that wasn't shot up, and I only got the usual materials: Iron, Sulphur, Vanadium but no Meta-Alloys.

Now that we know there is more than one system, a key question now is.. are hand crafted on certain locations by fd, or procedurally generated too.

it would be nice if they told us WHY certain systems are permit locked without reason... I mean I understand empire related ones and ones that are in habited space. But the ones out side away from everyone? i dont understand.

Recently someone mentioned that they had discovered an algorithm that would let them predict where barnacles might occur. What happened to that? Was it ever confirmed?

We might need that.

They are either hiding something from us or they are just removing some bugs

Is there anyway to find out which ones the devs made and which ones the game generated.

All the nebulae with 'real names' are hand coded, to some degree. Some, like Barnard's loop, must have gotten a lot of attention. Others, like the Pleiades, are more or less just a standard blob of gas.

Amazing, just amazing.

I was checking Eock Prau nebula for an UA shell or barnacles just a few days before 2.1 and now this... I'm tempted to turn around. Just tempted.
