Elite Dangerous is Done For

There are arriving titles like No Man's Sky, Star Citizen etc that appear they will blow them out of the water. Star Citizen is far deeper and contains much more content even in its early stages.

Uh can we have these astroturfing threads locked please? I mean, it's clear that the OP is only out to troll people, and not after any meaningful debate regarding actual grievances with the game.

And before any of the other sock puppets come out and cry censorship, we have a ton of RNG discussion threads already. Think Engineers are too grindy (I agree btw)? Take it there.

I don't doubt that NMS And SC might steal a few elite customers

On the other hand. They might also make space sims a "thing", make the Genre more fashionable and UP users.

Who knows?

Nothing lasts forever.

I look forward to playing both NMS and SC when they are released and have bought into both of them. The reason why I bought into them are different from why I'm playing ED though.

I also look forward to when these gets released for another reason...that people might start to understand the difference between "the idea of a game" and an actual game. That maybe the grass isn't necessarily greener on the other side. That all games have upsides and downsides. That the ultimate game that will end all other games only "exists" before it's released. ;)

Star Citizen will be a very very tough Contrahent. Especially because announced that Players can basicly own anything from Capital Ships to Star Ports.
They also claim you could press a button to make the sky open so God himself can come down and bestow upon thee plentiful bounties but until there's a playable realtime demo it's as good as a laser razor.

LOL

What?

Have you played Star Citizen? The content in it so far is a joke. Star Citizen, right now, has nothing compared to Elite. And want to know something else? Star Citizen can't even produce a reasonable flight model or controller balance yet, either, and they're several years into the project! Mouse aiming has ruled Arena Commander ever since the 1.7 update a couple of years ago and Chris doesn't seem to care!

HEY! That's it. You can ridicule SC all you want. You can poke fun at NMS. You can take pot shots at ED. But how DARE you insult my quite healthy investment in the kickstarter Laser-Razor. Dang you, I will not have a product I have invested so much money in besmirched like that. Consider this ... a slap upon your face with a white velvet glove, sir. You go too far, sir. Too. Far.

That being said, I hear that if you give enough money to High Deity Roberts, you will get a release date prior to 2019, a shiny decal for your ship and *gasp* a signed photo of Roberts himself in his flight jacket. Elite is doomed. DOOMED, I tell you.

Star citizen is Crysis mod full of bugs. I hear that they are dropping or indefinitely postponing large portion of the announced MMO features.

And no, I am not happy because of that. But Chris is repeating same mistakes he was making with Freelancer. I'm just wondering who will appear as the "deus ex machina" to save the day for him this time.

Thats been done with practically every update. Statistically every single one of those predictions has a zero% accuracy rating.

Pointing a finger at any of the games that have yet to be released and saying "Look a Wolf! This will eat ED" is IMO a waste of time.
.
The problem is, Ian, the game is eating itself......never mind the competition from other titles....THIS game is losing players hand over fist.......can anyone really argue the case that this game is GAINING players all the time?........It seems the White Knights are being wilfully blind about the realties before us.........

In between spamming the . button could you post a single bit of evidence of this?

Preferably more than the same 20 posters posting lots of times.

It doesn't make any difference whether they're gaining or losing as long as they're paying the bills. And they are.

I'd rather they remain small and continue what they're doing, sure there are things they've done that I don't like but they're minor when viewed as part of the whole. If they shoot for mass appeal I can virtually guarantee I won't like the result because there's not a single massively popular game I like. Mostly because they're dog simple and require very few brain cells.

I tried the star citizen free weekend recently. As much as I really want it to do well, and im sure it will eventually, what I played was a complete mess.

It looks nice, and there is so much potential there, but compared to elite in beta it just isn't fun to play. Elite in beta had me grinning like a school kid. Star citizen just disappointed. It doesn't fly nicely, ships don't respond or land nicely, there are clipping issues out of the wazoo, and the screen is so cluttered it made me feel nauseous.

SC has still got a long, long way to go before it's playable. By that time elite will have expanded even further in scope.

Why can't we play both (or even all three)? When I was a kid we'd play a bit of frontier, a bit of wing commander, and whatever else. When did people become so obsessed with a single game?

he can't, its like this, you go out, step in dog poo, look around no dog. Yell at cloud, run back to house and write a angry post that you step in dog poo. You feel good, go out again and see your OWN DOG making a brand new poo poo in your garden :D

Something has happened in the last few months; new player influx perhaps? Since BETA I used to have the forums open as I played ED; long distance travels that take >2min would have me browsing the forums. Now? Urgh.
Not to be rude, but it's like the forums went from a Sunday afternoon's Bowls Club for Elderly people with tea and crumpets, to a primary school playground with everything such a place entails.
Been like this from the start, as a long time lurker it's put me off interacting, though once you get past the bile and drivel there is tonnes of great info floating around

Well, I'm not sure. Things don't look great to me. There are a lot of angry fans and with the new titles due, many people may switch over. Depends how you look at it really. Dungeon Keeper is officially dead but there's still a bunch of people who play it regularly.

What I will say is this though, I personally know about 10 people who purchased Elite and all but one of them were done with it after a few days or hours - haven't played it since. Different crowds maybe.

Personally, I'm calling it an officially dead game within a litte over a year.

Oh my, this was getting a big dusty. Clean it up and bit and it is ready to show again.

The game can't be losing players if it died in dec 2014 as was predicted.

I have no idea where you get your ideas from. Perhaps I should join the queue of people waiting for you to provide your evidence. You are going to provide some evidence aren't you? Soon™ ?

Okay, so here's the facts. Frontier is losing large portions of their community by the day.
What facts? I see opinion here.

Their forums aren't a place to have "discussion" anymore, it's a place for complaining.
Official Forums are going to be a place of heated debate, complaints, suggestions and feedback.

Elite is currently a grind hell that is mind numbing boring and is just not what a game should be.
Alright, so we have a 'grind hell'. Which portion of the game is a 'grind hell'. Is credit gains too minimal? Are resource farming too minimal/difficult? You're welcome to open a new thread on this, with a well written, thought out post on the matter.

Both games that you've listed will be tailoring to their own niche of the market. NMS is a more cartoony design take on the space genre. Star Citizen is going for the whole shebang of content on launch. We hope that both titles are successful for the space genre.

So what's your guys opinion, do you think Ed has a chance in the same pond as these other titles? Personally, I'm calling it an officially dead game within a litte over a year.
Elite Dangerous is Elite Dangerous. Calling it a "dead game within a little over a year" is pretty much trolling, we're going to be around for quite some time. With that said, closing this discussion as this is surmounting to a trolling/harassment thread.
