UAs, Barnacles & More Thread 6 - The Canonn

Hi guys, I'm not really in the know about all this stuff. I'm a simple pilot trying to find niobium in this big old galaxy. I had been gathering resources from the Pleiades a few days ago but now the barnacles I visit have all of their spikes broken.

The ones I've checked were

Pleiades sector JC-U B3-2 1

And

Pleiades Sector IH-V c2-16 C 4.

The Canonn website hasn't been updated to reflect this so I'm just throwing it out there to let you guys know these barnacles are dead.

If by chance any of you know an intact one that drops niobium, it would be greatly appreciated.

Witch Head Nebula, stupid maneuver on planet, broken canopy, no AFM unit. I'm ****ssed. x(

With the unknown probe what should I be looking for? Im not sure where to look to find one. Convoys? USS? I heard someone found one in a convoy once? i dont remember :p

I will take a moment to reflect and toast your unfortunate end, Cmdr. Never let it be said that Elite science is easy; or safe.

We salute you (invoking the spirit of our dear friend and colleague Nilreb)

maybe i am mad ... but actually i am into another nebula (not california nebula not pleiades nebula)
to see if i can find other barnacles.

maybe i am wasting my time.. anyway i need some explorer data for rankup in the engineers levels.

later (maybe monday..), when i will finish this */&%#ng grinding to increase the FDS range, i will search better in the california nebula.

an explorer without an afm unit? i guess you wont be doing that again.

Duuuude: extra *weight* man! Gotta fly light!

It's probably too late now :( but does reboot/repair work for canopy???

reboot the canopy: that'd be awesome. I wanna see that.

What we need is a crossover with Space Engineers so we can call in the spanner brigade.

Ah Zoltan I am glad that you're here. I have just double checked every Barnacle that's on the Canonn website and every single one of them is now destroyed. Both the ones with and without defences!

Now I'm not sure if you'd want to update the website yet, or see what happens next Thursday, but I think it's definitely worth adding a note of some sort. I'm just nipping out for a smoke and then I'| heading back to the Canonn research outpost with all of the scanned data from them.

I'll ask again. Has anyone found a single defended barnacle since Thursday?

I were exploring in the days when there weren't these new fangled afm units :D

The lets clear this up
Unknown artifact is what is in the shell around Merope (all so found in convoys originally)
Unknown Probe is a new (since engineers update) And is as of yet unfound we dont even know where to start looking for them, but a convoy seems the best place to start.
If you go to Maia in galaxy map and look at obsidian orbital prohibited items the unknown probe is listed as one.

Hope that clears things up

Cmdr Chopper has been asking around for help with identifying which of the Pleiades Barnacles have changed status with the release of 2.1. I felt I could help with that project so we’ve been collaborating for the last couple of days on surveying each and every known Barnacle location listed in Netslayer’s excellent Pleiades systems sheet.

What we’ve done is characterise the appearance, the number of spikes and if there are any defences. The results of the initial survey can be found in our Pleaides Barnacle Materials & Locations sheet. All props to Cmdr Chopper for the initial project concept and collecting the majority of the data in the sheet.

To summarise:
  • there are 6 Barnacle locations that are intact and have NO defences of any kind.
  • there are 9 Barnacle locations that are intact and have defences of some sort.
  • the rest of the 31 Barnacles are all in a destroyed state.
  • the intact Barnacles without defences had 17 spikes.
  • the intact Barnacles with defences had 12 spikes.

I should also point out that intact doesn't mean it is giving out meta-alloys. They're bugged at the moment, so MB has said that MAs can be bought at Darnielle's Progress in Maia. At WAY over market price.

I went to both barnacles on Pleiades Sector JC-U b3-2 2 now, and they are all destroyed? I was there a week or two ago and they were ok? whats going on?

Ah yes.... the perils of spending time binding web pages to spreadsheets that people create and then nobody updates after the initial round of enthusiasm because everyone's so keen to do it their own way...

To be honest, that page ought to come down because - as I've hinted - nobody is updating the spreadsheet behind it so far as I can tell. Sigh.

This is really odd.

If there were a new item called Unknown Probe added to be part of this story, why would it first show up on a prohibited item list in a system?

I'd wager the Unknown Artefacts have been classified as a probe, except there's no GalNet story to support this classification. It could be tested though, I think. Are the UAs found free floating in space marked as stolen or illegal? Or does anyone have one that isn't marked? I'd be interested to see if taking one to Maia and getting scanned by security results in a fine.

Maia is where all the research has been done on them after all.

UAs are not illegal. If im correct. Since alot of stations ask for them. (dont know why) if they were illegal why would they be asking for them?

The point of the arrow is Maia (Which has a black hole in the system)
The Heart Nebula has a system with a black hole in it. (Heart Sector ZE-A E11)

The nebula is not on the same z-axis. merope is -150 heart nebula is 117

Edit: Could be a possibility that the arrow could be pointing at something else or it was just a lucky chance that all the B class stars around the Pleiades Nebula form an arrow when viewed from above.

I looked at the arrow this afternoon. I think while it points approximately towards the Heart nebula the alignmnet is not exact. The line actually seems to go midway between Heart & NGC7822.
Perhaps the arrow is actually pointing to something in Maia?
