UAs, Barnacles & More Thread 6 - The Canonn

And if I drop an UA inside Merope, it still points at the star, even after ramming it by accident:

Is this sufficient proof that the behaviour of the UA is unchanged in 2.1 as far as pointing is concerned? If yes, I will carry the thing to Merope 5C and check if the sentry skimmers behave differently if you have an UA in your SRV hold, what happens if you drop the UA onto the ground in a flat place from a standing SRV, and finally what happens if you scan and shoot it.

Scientifically we should repeat with a few different UAs to provide confidence; but it looks OK to me.

so if its 200mil km2 FD can't possible expect us to look over all that can they a bit sadistic don't you think? Also if we look back at what we have found i think (i don't know what) and i know its been said a million times WE MUST BE MISSING SOMETHING. Things have been laid out for us in a way that is logical wouldn't you think? also i think the fact we are finding barnacles at all is amazing . a nebular the size of barnard's loop must be 300 lys across CN cant be far behind that. And we only found the first one in merope because we thought we "had" to look there because all the UA,s pointied at it! and even MB was surprised we found the first so call hard one.!!! furthering my belive UA's and barnacles link has now yet been fully discovered.

After looking for on and off for 6 months for shells around near nebular and my last week of intensive search around Caly Nebular iv come to the conclusion that we are missing something fundamental that will help us in our search and better understanding of UA,S Barnacles and Probes.

So i offer my services to this thread. what should we check and what should we look for within reason? im heading over to merope now in a full equipped exploration asp. (Upkeep)

If you're going to Merope, give planet 6 a good search for odd things, & maybe a close visual search of the asteroid belts.

I did a second test by pulling up, i.e travelling above the ecliptic, and the UA still pointed to the star when dropped there, see my second post for the screenshot.

But I am willing to be part of a larger experiment with multiple ships and UAs. How do we coordinate that best? I do not have the CRCR and no hope of an invitation to Palin to buy some, so I prefer to not carry an UA for longer than necessary.

I flew at 90° from the plane and at 200 000 LS I constantly got a USS, Took me some time to get into it as At first I was going to fast. Nothing much in there, Abnormal Emissions 0, and got scanned by "system defense" ships :)

Guys I believe that I have cracked the meaning of the symbol on the barnacles. This may have been suggested before or not.

I also have a feeling that among us there are people who are keeping things to themselves. Kind of selfish if you ask me. We all take credit together for participating in this endeavor.

I am accusing those who went looking in California Nebula primarily. I now know the reason you went there and I will explain.

The symbol on the Barnacles is depicting what appears as a nebula of it's origin.
But it is not.

It is depicting three distinct nebula, the nebulae that correlate to it's origin. We will start with the first one where the barnacles were found. Use the links to see the images of these nebula as they appear in real life.

Plaiedes Nebula:
http://heroinewarrior.com/trapezoid/final103005b.jpg

This nebula is depicted in the symbol as a single circular nebula.

The second nebula which had barnacles discovered in it is the California Nebula.
http://bf-astro.com/images/ngc1499big.jpg

This nebula is depicted as a single streak or line type shape on the symbol.

And finally, the symbol shows you the Bernards Loop, and perhaps the Orion nebula or the surrounding area there in the galaxy map.
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipe...rWilson.jpg/220px-BarnardLoopHunterWilson.jpg

I am willing to bet that Orion or the Bernards loop contains a large blue star where barnacles can be found, or multiple systems where they can be found.

I propose that this is the meaning of this symbol and that it has been known by those who first went to look in the california Nebula. They saw right away that this symbol represents three different Nebula.
This is the hint Michael Brooks gave us:

Q:Now that one has been found, can you be a little more candid with your responses?
What other nebulae are they found in? And is Lagoon nebula one of those nebulae?

“I'm afraid not - the nebula(e) that they can be found in relates to their origin and I can't talk about that.”

Michael

So what can you do to help me out? Help me Search the Orion Nebula and the other surrounding Nebula and Barnards loop. Look for a large blue star.
If you are near the California nebula. Look for a large blue star system nearby called: Menkib (xi Persei). That is what it is called by the scientific community and I am not sure how it will be called in the game.

Additional comment: This symbol and the barnacles should be treated differently than the UAs. The UAs point to Merope for a reason other than the barnacles.

I have not actively been a part of the hunt or this thread and even I know that people have been speculating that the symbol meant other nebula's and therefore have been looking into them for months.

hi was near .. went there for you:

Spontaneously exploding spikes (SES) could be interesting ... Maybe explains why the 'state' of the barnacle sites are flipping *IF* it isn't a bug

Udo maybe you could report it as a bug to try to rule that out?

Probably a bug.. We're revisiting the sites and the ones that have changed seem to have totally changed states.. One on D 3 that was previously destroyed with 12 spikes and no defences now has 17 spikes and no defences. Another on the same planet was previously a double with 2x12 destroyed spikes and now has a double with 2x12 intact spikes, 6 skimmers and a Goliath!

I thought the same and tried menkib but as below no planets and no uss or sss.
I will go back and look again. I thought the symbols were bernards loop. Orion and running man nebulas.

It took a long time and multiple level 3 FSD boosts, but I made it to a star system behind Bernard's loop that aligns all of the nebulae up to appear as it does in the symbol a while back. That star is HD 32431; a large, blue B-class main star (but system information says A-class, galaxy map says B-class) with 2 more A stars, and 3 T/Y dwarfs. When in that star system and viewing in the direction of Sol, Bernard's Loop, Horsehead Nebula, Orion Nebula, and Witch Head Nebula all align just like the symbol on the barnacle. I spent multiple days searching the best candidates in that system for barnacles or any other hints; unfortunately, found nothing of interest in that search. It took a bare-bones Anaconda w/ 6 level 3 FSD boosts to reach that star and return.

Here is how the nebulae appear, just like the Barnacle symbol:
NkwXZqY.png

HD 32431 ABC 4 E was an unusual moon, with a very polar, slightly eccentric orbit compared to the other moons orbiting the same dwarf. Further, this moon had HUGE rings. (Reminds me of the same orbit as Merope 5c)

I think this makes sense.

... and on to a quite possibly entirely related observation... the horse head nebula requires an unknown permit... which just happens to be found right on the edge of barnards loop.

What did Michael say? "Winter is coming"!

wow, you can't say "scan Barnard's loop and the nebuale around it for something". we do even know there is something in Merope and despite all efforts we can't seem to find it, and it is a single system.. you have the " barnacledin rift" syndrome here.

I did similar within the irritatingly obvious cube of stars behind Barnard's somewhere around 43 Theta-2 Orionis to no avail, but this might mean nothing now. The ground there was well trodden

From your star, take your map straight out towards the galactic rim. Between (700,-499,-1400) and (700,-499,-1500) the stars REALLY thin out; that cube shape irks me as well. Keep going until you reach the (X,Z,-2190) area, then drop down to the -888 area. You're now close to where HD 32431 is, just nudge the X axis over by about 100. HD 32431 is (645,-888,-2193). It took days and days to find the most efficient route without having to farm for 20+ lvl 3 FSD boosts. The closest route I could find still required at least three lvl 3 boosts to get across the gap to that star cluster and 3 to return. An ASP can make it there - but you better be a jumponium junkie/hoarder.

If you're going to Merope, give planet 6 a good search for odd things, & maybe a close visual search of the asteroid belts.

I did yesterday, actually. Nothing around the planet/rings, not a single USS for more than 1 hour. When going to the ring, there is always 2 or 3 pirates spawning and 1 or 2 miners, just like any other ring or asteroid belt. Haven't seen anything remarkable.

On the asteroid belt however, I was getting close to the mid part of the asteroid belt (am I the only one that finds annoying an asteroid belt that spans for 1Ly) and I got a USS that resolved as a convoy pattern. When I jumped in it was either bugged or empty, not a ship spawned. I'm about to repeat now.

You should organize a coordinated search ínside the emergency drop zone of Merope main Star. After all, the UAs point there and this is the nearest searchable position available.

I'm thinking about life forms insid e the corona, or alien abandoned nests, or automated assembly UA factories...

I have looked all over Merope... especially the USSs. Nothing interesting. However in Maia I did stumble across an AI Relic... Dont think it was related.

Guys the point I was trying to make is that there are exactly 3 nebula that have barnacles in them. There is one more and it needs to be found. Once it is found, we will need to think about the importance of those three nebula and how they correlate to the origin of the barnacles. The UAs is a separate thing, connected, but leads a different path in the story as I suspect so does the missing Jaques Station. This particular Hypothesis of mine relates to the "Origin" of the barnacles and the relation to the 3 nebulas of which we have found 2.

Has anyone searched Orion nebula? There are many blue stars in it. I marked several that I am on my way to visit. Will make a stop at Merope and Maia on my way there though. If anyone wants to come on a trip feel free to join me. Cough cough... Ilo... cough cough.

What is the emergency drop zone? And yes I do suspect that it is the actual star itself that is important. Cause they point to it not any other planet in there.
