Just saying, maybe these mining posts are everywhere and there is only one manufacturer, I really have no idea.

Again I have found a crashed navigation beacon by a barnacle. 4th barnacle, coordinator 10' 357 -80,2207 is confirmed destroyed but for me is single not double.

A few pictures of how far it is from the barney

If someone is good at listening at the audio from the crashed beacon , or have we already analysed it?

I came across an installation like this before 2.1 hit. I believe it was somewhere in the California sector while searching for barnacles.

Apparently the wrecks containing these private data beacons are manufactured by the same people that planted mining outposts in Maia and Merope:

I'd say they are related, but obviously, if these wrecks were in game before 2.1 no one noticed they are related.

ECCENTRIC HYPERSPACE TRAJECTORIES

UKNOWN VESSEL DETECTED

Found something interesting guys.
Im not sure what triggered it. While at the engineer base I noticed I had a message on there that I had missed. I must have picked up that message on the way to the engineer's base. I can recall my path if it is worth it.

Have a look at this screen shot please:

That sounds like you hit the bubble around Merope. Sometimes those instances take a while to spawn what's inside. You gotta wait a good while.

Woah. Wait. You think that has something to do with Jacques maybe??? They seem to be about to execute a series of hyperspace jumps all at once. HYPERSPACE. Do we ever call our jumping hyperspace? Its always witchspace isnt it? Don't the stations and capital ships use hyperspace? I could be wrong on that point. But either way, they were executing multiple jumps at once and then detected an unknown ship. We need to find where you picked it up. Just to be sure.

no. We used to use witch space back in the old elite days. Now we use Hyperspace in ED. and capitals and stations I think still use witch space...

135 to 150 LY from Merope.
that pointing alignment is quite good

And if I drop an UA inside Merope, it still points at the star, even after ramming it by accident:

XyPFweb.png

Is this sufficient proof that the behaviour of the UA is unchanged in 2.1 as far as pointing is concerned? If yes, I will carry the thing to Merope 5C and check if the sentry skimmers behave differently if you have an UA in your SRV hold, what happens if you drop the UA onto the ground in a flat place from a standing SRV, and finally what happens if you scan and shoot it.

Countless people? A couple of hundred maybe. To search 13 landable bodies totaling over 200 million square km, more than the surface area of the Earth. You've massively underestimated the size of stuff in space. But then, everyone does.

so if its 200mil km2 FD can't possible expect us to look over all that can they a bit sadistic don't you think? Also if we look back at what we have found i think (i don't know what) and i know its been said a million times WE MUST BE MISSING SOMETHING. Things have been laid out for us in a way that is logical wouldn't you think? also i think the fact we are finding barnacles at all is amazing . a nebular the size of barnard's loop must be 300 lys across CN cant be far behind that. And we only found the first one in merope because we thought we "had" to look there because all the UA,s pointied at it! and even MB was surprised we found the first so call hard one.!!! furthering my belive UA's and barnacles link has now yet been fully discovered.

After looking for on and off for 6 months for shells around near nebular and my last week of intensive search around Caly Nebular iv come to the conclusion that we are missing something fundamental that will help us in our search and better understanding of UA,S Barnacles and Probes.

So i offer my services to this thread. what should we check and what should we look for within reason? im heading over to merope now in a full equipped exploration asp. (Upkeep)

Everybody seems to be stupidly focused on looking for barnacles. (prob for fame or something) we should be looking for a unknown probe. We may or may not know where it will turn up.

I have spent the day on Merope 5c looking for Stuff™. Found a crashed condor and not a lot else. Lots of rocks. LOTS of rocks. If I had found another barnacle, instead of a crashed probe we wouldn't be crying about it now would we? Meanwhile, I've returned to Obsidian for a well earned rest (I reckon) and will continue the hunt for Stuff™ as opportunities present (RL permitting)

The unknown probes are in space not on planets.. but planets are in space... AHH science hurts.

Yeah, well I just spent days an' days SS-diving, and fancied a day on terra-not-all-that-firma. One thing at a time eh? Don't worry. Somebody'll find one. Probably while they're out shopping or something. I'm not aware that anybody other than RedWizard ever actually found exactly what they were looking for. It's all accidents and serendipity. Bit like the lottery - you've just got to be 'in it to win it'. Keep at it fella, it'll come :)

Well folks, I just spent most of the past two days going away from Merope towards Maia in supercruise, at a speed of around 150-200c and checking for Signal Sources or any other items of interest. From 2,227,813 lightseconds away, I can pretty confidently say there is nothing of interest in this direction (like a point of interest that doesn't show up until getting within 1,000 to 1,500 Ls of it). I've only encountered randomly spawned USS points which are either Degraded Emissions Detected, Encoded Emissions Detected, or the occasional Distress Call (with a stranded Type-6, no cargo).

On the off chance that I had dropped the UA at exactly the wrong spot (or exactly the right spot) in Merope, I logged in again, pulled up several 100 Ls, dropped the UA again, and did a second alignment check. Still pointing at the star:

XvmpuNB.png

I call this still aligned.

And then I went to Merope 5C, had to land on the night side, had to repair my canopy twice with the AFM, screwed up the ground approach a little loosing all shields and 35% hull by pulling up a little too late, and approached the barnacle site with an UA in the cargo hold of the SRV.

And experienced either a really weird instancing issue, or a case of "Hmm, that's odd". Take a look at the beginning of this video:

I find it ... interesting ... that the spikes suddenly explode.

The backstory, starting shortly after landing, unfortunately with a gap in the middle as I initially used "save last 5 minutes":

I find it ... interesting ... that the skimmers only spawn long after I entered the no trespassing zone and do not attack for a long time. In the missing segment, I was standing in the middle of the barnacle site and scanned the central barnacle and all the spikes. And the skimmers did not react. They only attack me when one of them suddenly disappears, that's why I only need to kill two of the three.

But the most interesting part is the encore. This is what the site looked like when I took off again, this time in solo (all before was in mobius):

W5qTTNR.png

Pristine again. May I have a "Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot" or "Cambridge, we have a problem" from the audience, please?

Made it back to Obsidian Orbital. Repair/restock bill was just 7k or so, but I am a little bit rattled at the moment. I think a Whiskey is in order.

Good work dude. you can have a eton mess.

Right if i was sending a probe i would probably want to find out who was attacking me picking up my unknown artifacts and dumping them on planets black holes. also steeling them and taking them to federation space.

so thats it then id send my probes to the people who were steeling stuff from me. Fed stations even maybe the engineer bases. im going to look for probes in inhabited space.

Not sure why you're stressing over Palin so much. His best upgrade is for normal thrusters and he doesn't sell special cargo crates that can hold UA's. At least not until next patch it would seem.

This is not true. The special resistant cargo (crcr) is available for purchase from Palin as soon as you get the invite. You don't even need to collect the 25xUF.
Several people including me have them

Spontaneously exploding spikes (SES) could be interesting ... Maybe explains why the 'state' of the barnacle sites are flipping *IF* it isn't a bug

Udo maybe you could report it as a bug to try to rule that out?

I think they're already active. There's plenty of indications of things going wrong with frame shifts - Highliner Antares, Starship One, Jacques. Lots of weird wreckage turning up with private beacons containing FSD error logs. Some of the wake data scans descriptions also mention 'there are rumours that something more insidious has been discovered'.

Seems to me that playing around with experimental or unusual frameshift technology is likely to attract unwanted attention.

My bad then. Someone told me they were not in the game yet.
