Depends on your definition of important. Barnacles have been discovered in the California Nebula.
Back from a 3 month break. Am I correct in assuming nothing of any import has happened?![]()
Summary of previous experiments (pre 2.1) :
UA have been taken everywhere
UA have been in Hold with ALL other items
UA have been dropped into space before and after ALL other items
UA and MA have been mixed, matched, swapped, combined, on planet, off planet, near barnacles of all states, not near barnacles of all states
In none of the experiments did anything occur that is not expected
We did try and have a Wiki to record experiments but it failed for many reasons, the main one being that most people are not scientists and therefore conduct and document their experiments really really poorly.

Or did I, and others, misinterpret what you said then ?

THIS ^^^ and REP.
I was in the middle of writing the same post, more or less.
That does not mean that something could have been changed by then, but I tend to think that the road of checking the interaction between UA and Commodities/weapons/sensors/whatever, could reasonably be defined a "DEAD END".
What could not be a dead end is (even if already tried in the past), checking NOW if the UA allows a ship to bypass the new permit-locked areas: now that Palin is providing a new and safe container for the UA, i really think that a VERY LONG TRAVEL with an UA in hold, could be a thing. Really.
Or I wonder what the purpose of such a container could be, if not taking the UA very far away.
If anyone is near the WitchHead neb, I could use a hand to search Bd-12 1172, it seems to be the only system in the Spirograph neb, that looks different when in the system.
It has a few planets that come close to the barnacle range, plus its a crazy view from this neb, its like being under water.

On the issue of experiment tracking...
It's a really tricky one - I agree with Domm's last comment essentially saying 'everything' had been tried. Essentially, from what we know, he's right.
Also - tracking things like this also presumes that people will actually bother to reference the stuff after it's created. Why trawl through a potentially very complex spreadsheet or whatever, when you can just stick up a question on the forum thread where you know somebody will answer you?
I'm personally all for a log of experiments. If I'm being biased, I'd say it should either be on the OP here or as a public page in our Codex so it's freely available, permanent and linkable (and more importantly will be indexed by Google) rather than baking it into some mental speeadsheet.
I'm a developer by trade, and the number of businesses who rely on impenetrable spreadsheets to store 'information' astounds me - especially when the day comes that they realise they don't have information - only data.
There are some projects here which are much better for the spreadsheets - the monster and the current barnacle survey sheet which tracks their state being two excellent examples.
But sometimes what we need is some old-fashioned typing and reading; and also the patience to answer a noob question like 'have you shot them yet' with the good grace and humility (and probably humour!) that these threads are renowned for having.
I will personally try to remember my own advice from here on in![]()

Dude. I'm just posting this to rep you for an amazing avatar. That is all. Seriously. Technicolour Riker beard, now that's something that needs some serious sciencing!Scanned all planets and they are all metal leeched, so not the best for the barnie, but this neb looks crazy.
Polaris and Col 70 have been tried by me, even so far as actually going there and trying to manually jump (not my idea, I was "forced" into trying it)

Hi all, wanted to reach out to the folks on the forum and share what I had posted to the Canonn subreddit yesterday. I'll do my best to summarize, not sure if I am allowed to link to the post or not.
I started some research into the types of nebula LBs have been found in but stumbled across another Greek mythology connection. The California nebula is a part of the constellation Perseus, a great hero who ruled the kingdom of Mycenae. This sounded too much like Mycoid, as in mycoid virus, so I looked into the root of the word and it translates to 'mushroom' making it too strange for coincidence(mycoid translating in some texts I saw to fungal). I looked a little further and also found that Perseus had slain a creature called Cetus. No surprise there is a constellation and a nebula named after Cetus. I saw that there were some people looking at the constellation of Cetus recently but no one looking or talking about Cetus Ring, or the Skull Nebula. Skull nebula does exist but the main star of that nebula appears to be renamed to BD-12 134. BD-12 is also a good 30 lightyears from where it should be assuming it is a renamed main star of the Skull nebula. Last night I attempted to get as far as I could and realized the distance it too vast for a standard ship, it will require some serious FSD boosts or a better navigator.
It could be nothing but it feels like a clue when you step back and look at earlier references to Seven Sisters followed by LB discoveries in the Pleiades, then the bit about Cetus' Bane early in the month followed by a LB discovery in Cetus's bane (Perseus).
I'm on XBox and looking into the same links. Let me know if you find anything.
No, they use the same technology as frame shift drives, but the energy is colossal (the requirements for regular ships are huge too) so has more effect when entering normal space.
