I cant seem to get much further past the Witch head nebula. I occasionally come out for a few thousand LY just for a break from "The bubble" visiting various nebulae. Most systems beyond are permit locked or my routing will not complete.
Could it be my jump range, about 27lys or am I doing something wrong? It was normally ok before 2.1.

Automatic routing is completely messed up around permit locked sectors, you'll have to do short bursts or just manual plot.

Okay, i'm probably making a fool of myself or seeing ghosts already (or even both). So please laugh at me if you like, but:

Did the Start Screen of Elite changed ? there is Barnards Loop clearly visible, and i did not notice this, yet. Ever.

Was that always there, or is that new.

Sorry, for a most probably dumb question, i could not resist

See attached below in the spoiler :

Not seeing the screenshot.

It seems COL 70 Sector is locked out by a permit, why is that? I haven't been keeping up to date with the game for the past 2 months.

Was at the battlecruiser earlier. I flew around it pretty close - when I flew away from it, I suddenly got (as a direct message): "Back off Commander. You are not authorised to be close." - Could be because I was flying closer to the barnacle, away from the battelcruiser. Nothing more happened. Saw no other ships, except from a random Anaconda pirate npc scanning me.

I got barnacles in Witch Head
Witch Head Sector LC-V C2-10 A4 (-16.5359 151.8175)
It's a double and they're not showing on the wave scanner! I just relogged and they're still there.
Edit: I didn't find them by chance. I've been searching for the pesky things all over for months.

Finally made it into the Witch Head Nebula after ripping out some armor and dumping some cargo, and this one is confirmed:

Will now land and check if my wave scanner only shows one of them.

At the Barnacle in Merope 2A. Was able to get right up close and scan the central part of the Barnacle without being warned or attacked by the Federal Battlecruiser.

Was also able to fly right up to the ship with no repercussions....

There are areas where stars thin out and it's very difficult to plot a route. You have the opposite problem near the core, where there are too many stars for the navigation to plot long routes. I've never tried going coreward without 30+LY jump range.

The problem with the plotter has nothing to do with permit blocking and it has everything to do with A. not using your current jump range when determining valid paths in a plotted route and B. not trying hard enough to find alternate routes.

I think B is partly to give a measure of skill to exploration and explorers. A is just a bug.

I was the other commander :D.
Nice meeting you out there :)

No idea who the "system authority" ships were?
Nope, but there were some comms chatter from the Feds (called something similar to System Authority, and mainly consisting of Vultures(!) and a FAS that I saw) concerning "Reds in the area. Breaking formation" etc.

Get close enough and that will change :D. Happened to me too.
You don't get much closer than flying inside it ;)

Edit: I went to the Farragut first, landed on it and played a bit with it. Then went to the Barnacles and was, ahem, a "bad boy." Then went back to the Farragut, and it didn't blink an eye. Never got any comms from it, even when I flew into its "nose". Only got scanned by the Vultures a couple of times, but they said everything was clear and told me to be on my way.

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone has fired at the barnacle with engineer weaponry? I am getting some really strange effects using my special weapons? would you like a video?

Update: Here is the image of the effect, video uploading. Could be a bug but worth the sciencing.

I think there may be a hidden add-on with the next patch or two, related to the barnacles or not. It is strange for an entire sector to be locked down. Let the speculations and conspiracy theories commence :).

It is even worse, the scanner does not react at all. Evidence, sample, whatever:

Selfie-cam shots of the site, I make it 2 barnacles and 31 spikes:

Time to start scanning, and then to check if I can make them fly :D

May be related, may be not...
2 days ago I have been in Procyon. Noticed the same cap ship Invincible. A lot of T6, T7 federal npc were buzzing around. Just truckers, no one fighter. Did cargo scan half of dozen of them - various food and water in cargo holds, nothing else. Cap ship was empty.

Feds been loading provisions for this campaign???

Today I took a vacation day from trading and made a quick run to check some systems around Taurus Dark Region without results.

Also made a quick visit to Mintaka to check the planet around the black hole. Way off known parameters for barnacles but wonderful sights, including a quick landing in the brightest crater near the pole and a spooky USS filled with ships debris at a few hundred kilometers from the singularity...

Another quick run to T Tauri to check the views. Seriously, A1A should be full to the roof with barnacles!. It's the perfect candidate. Spent an hour driving along the red bottom of an amazing grey-walled canyon, flat as a racetrack. Found a crashed nav beacon only.

Finished my run in Pleiades LC-V C2-10, without planet candidates on sight.

If you check underground with the cam you'll probably see some spikes that don't protrude above ground. It should add up to 34 so there are likely 3 that are usually underneath other spikes.

In addition to my last comment, here is the video I promised, feedback on how to proceed?
