I'm seeing none of this interdiction spam that everyone's on about
I was about to post something very similar. Clearly from a programming perspective the reason NPCs attack without having scanned is because it's simple and easy, but it doesn't take much RP to infer that they've been tipped off as to your cargo, especially if you're running missions. Some if them even open comms with "The rumours were true..."
If FD can change these messages to be even more implicit ("My tip-off was spot on; I must reward her when I next see her" or, even better if the game can support it, "Looks like the bribe I paid to the dockers at {station_you_got_cargo_from} has paid off..." / "I guess it pays to have a contact inside {faction_that_gave_mission}...") then it might go some way towards making things seem less imbalanced.
Besides, if NPCs had to play by player rules all the time the alternative would be for every pirate to interdict you in order to scan you for potential booty. Which would surely be even more annoying.
Yes, the NPCs "cheat" insomuch as they don't need cargo scanners to know when you're hauling stuff through supercruise. But a little contextual imagination (which isn't a dirty word despite what some would say) is all it takes to understand why this might be so in the fictional galaxy.
(I was hoping that one day the game may be sophisticated enough that we will be able to bribe dockers and faction members to tip us off about other NPCs' (maybe even players') cargo, but as time goes on that does seem less likely. At least we get some missions that are broadly analogous to this.)
These posts are getting more bizarre by the day, a small percentage of spoiled players want an easy ride, well go and play euro truck simulator of something elite is finally getting good and many of us are liking it, i was starting to play less and less because the game was sooo boring before 2.1 so understand there are two sides to every story FD will lose far more players if they went back to the ridiculously easy v2.0.
I made 200 million credits without taking any risks and zero ship loses in 2.0 it was meaningless. since 2.1 Ive made 20 million hard won credits and enjoyed every minute, Put it like this 100cr post 2.1 is worth 1000000cr pre 2.1 and elite rank pre 2.1 is nothing compared to even an average rank now. Take the challenge if you dare Clear save and really play Elite Dangerous if not go away and play my little pony.

I think a better solution for all these problems with the AI would be a insurance cost reduction. The fights against the enhanced AI would be more fun if you are not so stressed out about losing your ship, and so millions.
Many people are leaving as a result.
Because this is the binary choice FDEV is facing now.
You up the skill of AI until even Harlmess pilots fly like experts.
Then you make it so every pirate we see, will interdict or attack us if we have ANY cargo in our ship.
THEN you FORCE US to carry cargo constantly, if we want to do Engineer stuff.
You are pushing players away from your game with one bad decision after another, FDEV. I said months ago that this game needs a lead developer. Someone skilled in game design, as opposed to flight model simulation. Well, 2.1 dropped and drove the point home like a hammer on a nail.
The game is for the most part not fun. Its a solid flight model surrounded by a boring, tedious, RNG based grind, wherein we are harassed constantly by NPC pilots who risk multi million credit ships for 1 ton of common wreckage left over from a fight.
It makes no sense. Its tedious. Its not fun. Many people are leaving as a result.

I imagine that my cargo was loaded in secret in a Empire military spaceport (it is a courier mission after all), I also "imagine" that my ship has a element in the alloys/hull that make it unscanable, I can imagine lots of things.. imagination swings BOTH ways. Sorry.![]()
But the game play contradicts what your are imagining in this example, so your alloy must not be working because you can be scanned and there must be spies at that secret Imperial base. The example Jack gave was working with the game not against it.
Therefore @OP and the other PVE play style people here. Stop being so entitled.
What did you except after all the fuss that u made about the pirate group like , CODE , SDC ,etc etc? Coming in upsetting your game by playing BY the rules given to you, us them by The high lord of all Braben!
At least those guys just pirated you. The kill squads didn’t come till later, after all the crying about every action they did was griefing.
So, you all run off and play in Solo and Private, which at the time was considered by anyone who knew how to actually play the game. Easy mode, even FDEV recognised this ( Yes I can probably go and find that quote )
So you take PVP totally out of the picture but even some of the solo players wanted more of a challenge than spinning NPC’s dying like ducks in a barrel!

Skilled NPC’s that are actually a challenge.
Most of you are rolling around in end game ships with Elite rankings and realistically have no clue about how to build a strong PVE ship or how to kill something that doesn’t sit there waiting to be killed!
You get told to Git Gud! You take this as an insult. Sure it sort of is, but the players with the high combat ranks and high level ships. Should have gotten atleast competent at the game along the way.
What you have now, is the challenge that the game should have given you earlier on. But you don’t want it, because.. “Insert reason”
Dont tell me that you can’t avoid an interdiction or a fight on your Precious Combat/Trading ship (big or small). Stop whining about the game changes and start playing the game as it’s supposed to be.
Maybe speak to some PVP players, get better at the game you think you are already good at and Clearly aren’t.
YES you will lose your ships a few times and every time, you should learn from it.
