So why is the cap ship there? Thats what I want to know. Are they trying to collect it? im not sure how since all they could possible do is scan it and shoot it just like us :D

On a side note, I just got interdicted by an NPC pirate. Just had my 6A shield taken out by 1 missile. Then my hull by another 2. I can kiss another 7mil goodbye.

Since 2.1 I highly recommend point defense, preferably two if you can spare the utility slots.

I swapped two shield boosters for these on my build due to the missile buff.

I believe the Federation has always had an agenda regarding all this ever since the first UA's were discovered last year. People will remember Red Wizard acquiring the first one in a herioc battle with a Federal Convoy (congrats again for that by the way!).

It's all very interesting, and I don't think we're any closer to solving why the Feds are so interested in it all and why currently the Empire seem to have taken a back seat along with the Alliance...

What do the Feds know that we don't? Why are they suddenly only now taking action regarding the Barnacles and why at only one site....in Merope. Where coincidentally the UA's appear to point towards?

Hmmm...

Its been so long since I had point defence on my ships then after a interdiction i realise I need them.

Yeah, you only find out how much more effective missiles are when you're on the receiving end... and by that time you will be lucky to get back to a station to refit (especially on the smaller ships)

Thanks for that info.. I never knew that!

Neither did I until the other day. There was no missile warnings but the point defense was firing away, then I suddenly saw that they were blasting multiple PA rounds into oblivion aha

It would be pretty neat if you could use point defense against ships, like in Fractured Space if anyone has played that (if not I do recommend!), would make space battles look even cooler especially where the bigger ships are concerned XD

History of hyperspace in the Elite universe.

- In the Dark Wheel novella, the faraway jump system was described. It was a netwok of interstellar nav beacons and worked like jump-gates. The ftl travel, between stations were refered to as Withcspace. This has never been implemented in any of the games.

- In Elite, there were instant jumps. Max range 7ly. Much like now, but with less range. The transition sequens between systems was called Witchspace. Thargoids could pull you out of Wtchspace in interstellar space.

- In FE2 and FFE, all ships had different jump range (up to 144ly). The jumps were semi relativistic. It took 1 week on the clock to complete a max range jump. For the plater IT took a few sec. The nickname Witchspace, was still in use.

The Dark Whell and Elite are not lore in ED, because the difference in universe.

FE2 and FFE technology may still be lore, but we don't know this.

All in all, the current method is most similar to the original Elite.

Lore or not lore, it's very likely that all the methods have used frame shifting (compression of space ahead of the vessel). All differences are down to game mechanics.

Witchspace is and always was a nickname for traveling thru compressed space.

MB has IIRC also referred to this as passing through higher dimensional space and smaller than our space - leaving the situation still nicely open for us to get into some other levels of universe and galaxy

Thanks! It was an unforgettably thrilling night.

I have two point defence on my Asp, plus 5A shield, plus 0A shield boost with Felicity's level1 upgrade. The other day I only just managed to escape from an NPC, my shield had full pips. It was an ImpEagle.

I think 2.1 has moved too far towards the pew pew side of things

It's a slippery slope, too: poking folders and files today; PEEKing memory tomorrow; POKEing menory the day after, all justified with the 'I'm just using the tools at my disposal' defence. Or: cheating. Cheating yourself and everyone else.

Oh come on Zoltan, people have been peeking into the game files for a while now, not crossing any lines, and what's the harm in using game files to feed a little harmless speculation? FD haven't exactly put any really valuable secrets in there that we can easily discover (unless they want us to find it and we're not smart enough).

Returning to the bubble from a Witch Head barnacle site I find it really exciting to see the COL 70 systems on the navigation list that require a permit.
Can't wait for something to happen there.

That's settled then, no more game file reveals....shall we move on?

No, I don't agree. I will reveal what I feel like revealing, and I know half of the people on the forums enjoy reading these 'reveals'.
I don't see why a spoiler tag isn't enough. I also don't get the separate beta threads.

Just a quick note, please don't post information pulled from game files here, or elsewhere on the forum.

OK, I don't agree with this rule, much like I don't think all the language blocking is a very good idea, but if it's a rule (which I suppose it is if a mod is saying it) then we should follow it.

Reading a bunch of files defeats the whole purpose of playing the game. Plus if I want to read files, I can go and do my day job and debug a couple of websites I run and work on the android/web app I'm currently building.
