The Star Citizen Thread v5

I was wondering the same...

I understand that we need several ships per role your character will be able to take. But where are the places? Where is Nyx? We saw a preview of it like 10 months ago. Where is Gold Horizon? I don't care about Star Marine module but CIG said the map/station is ready. Why does CIG keep hidding it from us? Where is Shubin Interstellar mining station? I don't care if these places are unfinished.
I pledged years ago knowing that it would probably take 4 to 5 more years before being able to play the released version. But I subscribed so that CIG could share this kind of work. I don't care anymore about IFCS v17.4, about the next concept ship nor about the 4th revamp of the Hornet. I understand that we need all them but ships serve nothing if you have no place to come from and to fly to.
It's been two months now that I've barely looked at ATV/bugsmashers/10FTx because they all look the same now (except when there's some Sean Tracy or Brian Chambers in it) and this is not what I subscribed for. I subscribed for them to share NEW things, which clearly isn't the case right now.

58 and a half days until Gamescom... Let us all join hands and think positive thoughts about all the goodies that CiG will reveal to us :)

heres my guesses based on previous years
Start with Sandi sob talk about anonymous hate attacks. Ben pushes a empty cake rack to stage. Erin then interrupts and talks about the immersion of the new network infrastructure that the magic germans have made. Ben slips out that he has been playing COD:IW for whole week. Chris showcases this years sq42 mocap

Tour around arc corp showcasing some npc's glitching in walls and railings.
then they showcase some star marine with eta of 3 weeks.
Then they will go to baby PU and showcase some Big benny vending machine action.
Finally everything culminates to reveal of Planetary landing module (it gets cancelled 3 years later) ,
sq42 part 1/25 is postponed till january 2017 (will release at 2018. alpha testing of sq42 part 1 starts at summer 2017)
new bishop trailer releases, with tom cruise playing as bishop

One thing you missed, top-hats, canes and a krill vending machine added to space mall.

Semi-seriously though: Do you think they can possibly present at Gamescom and not give a release date (even a season or quarter) for Sq42? Is that only important for "critics" and will the "happy to wait" element not care at all?

If they don't give a release date, my thought is that would be an admission they cannot release it. Although another sad reality with the project so far is that release dates only serve as ugly tombstones for dreams.

CR said he doesn't like to give dates anymore because of the meanies who asked where the game was in 2014. Like funding driving scope increase it's all the fault of the backers, if they just left the poor man alone he'd have finished by now.

There is a part of the new TOS that pretty much allowing them to not deliver anything so I dont think he will be stating any dates. And if he will they will just miss it with no consequences.

I think they could definitely get away with it. In the short run, not giving release dates only affects critics and people who have already bought into the project. It's not like any influential factions are going to call them out on their bad practices anymore after all.

From what they've said they're not actually doing a presentation this year. They've just got a stand where people can play the game and they're doing a few livestreams.

I suspect any new footage is going to be scarce until Citizencon in October at the earliest.

Surely it makes more sense to only present glitch-free pre-rendered footage and trailers if they do present anything at all?

That's why we've not seen anything since that faked up procedural planet stuff - they had to do it on the live stream after people called them out on it all being pre-renders, and they demonstrated that yes it was a pre-render.

Can't get away with that again..... there's a degree of do-or-die coming

And in my continuing series of "Is Star Citizen actually in reality Dead Space 4?", I provide more evidence to push the case that is what actually is happening with Star Citizen...

Alongside my report about how Star Citizen is potentially shaping up to being a space horror game, rather than, well, a game at all, there is also much to be said about SC being actually the greatest unintentionally funny "game" ever made, as this video proves....

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKaMRga5sQs#t=34s

(Remember, $115 million and counting, and nearly 5 years into production, 18 months behind the intended release date for one of it's core game modes and over a year since the main game, Star Citizen, was supposed to out in at least Beta....)

the morphing issue is not new to cryengine. i believe crysis had the same thing, but alot less than star citizen [big grin]

Fans really should stop calling it a crowdfunding campaign. The only reason it resembles one is because CIG have no "official" product yet. All their revenues are taxed as sales and since all 11 CIG companies are only working on one product, all of it is going to go back to "development" in some way (minus whatever CR pays himself and his family for being CEO and management). If Freyermuth is allowed to treat the operation as a going concern in the financial reports with governments treating his revenues as coming from sales, then it's clear that what CIG is doing at this point is not "crowdfunding".

If someone wants to argue that it is though, I'll first need about an hour to donate a couple of dollars to the nearest KFC because I could use the fried chicken they'll give me as a thank you for my generous contribution to their crowdfunding campaign for continued expansion/survival in the fast food market.

It's funny and kinda sad how divided people get over this game.

You're either a White Knight or a Goon - there's really no in-between lately.

Also, I find it very amusing how pro-SC people often are very quick to play the "Armchair developer"-card:

"You know NOTHING about game development, so please keep quiet!".

In other words: Someone who knows nothing about game development are telling others to keep quiet, because of this very same reason.
