UAs, Barnacles & More Thread 6 - The Canonn

It would be interesting if we could get different commander's patterns together. Maybe we'll see a pattern in the patterns ! :D

Okay, here is mine: Luminosity per area (I don't quite remember, is that called flux?)

If you add up the total energy output of all stars in the specific system, and see how much of it actually arrives at the planet on which the barnacle is, you get (in kW/m^2):

Merope 5C: 61.9
Pleione 11A: 2.0
California Nebula DL-Y D4 C6: 0.3
Pleiades Sector JC-U B3-2 1: 7.4
Pleiades Sector IH-V C2-16 D3: 1.8
California Sector LC-V c2-10 B1: 1.6
California Nebula DL-Y D4 C3: 2.5
Witch Head Sector GW-W c1-4 A 4: 3.0
Witch Head Sector LC-V c2-10 A 4: 5.1

See here for the data:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/g6vlo0ojn2vqkbv/Luminosity.xlsx?dl=0

All of this does not account for orbital inclination, which has an impact on how much of the energy of the star actually reaches the barnacle. Also, all stars are treated as perfect black bodies, which is also not quite true. But the orbital inclination is probably more of an issue here (the one in Merope 5C of 75.8° could bring the flux value down to 14.5 kW/m^2 -- still much higher than the rest).

So, with a few exceptions (looking at you, Merope), barnacles seem to enjoy about 1.5-7.5 kW/m^2 of luminosity flux. Maybe that gives some hint as to how far the planets they are on are from their particular star -- they shouldn't be too close or too far.

Now, to be honest, I don't think this should be taken too seriously. Before we have much more data, there is no way of seeing whether this is a coincidence, or maybe correlates with the surface temperature too much.

Cheers, CMDR Heisenbeg6626

Edit: whoopsie, there is a numerical error in the data sheet, should be fixed now

So, I heard Drew Wagner is fleeing the bubble as fast as he can.

He also replied to a comment saying, "I told you not to shoot first."

Is an attack imminent? We're out here researching and now I fear we may be at risk, serious risk.

I'm highly debating about returning to the bubble to combat outfit and prepare for the arrival....maybe I'll stick to Sol...defend Earth, our home, the cradle of humanity.

What to do....

Ranting and ravings of a mad man.

but yea.. get some guns. Though if i was a surprise strike force, i'd attack the the strongest position i could first. Take out mars / earth forces and achenar simultaneously. In the confusion and panic of who is running what, you can casually take out much more of the forces before organization is restored....and then you're left with opponents who have lost the bulk of their fleets.

I would still not be surprised though that this is not Thargoid in nature. INRA has plenty of first hand info they've been with-holding. If simply shooting barnacles could start a war, they would have stopped anyone from shooting them. Or maybe a war is what they want.

Maybe. But I say we be more cautious. Something is coming of that I believe we can be certain, let us not be ill prepared.

That's why there is an exploration CG. To make sure that some of us are not going to die.

Question is have you killed any UA's?

I killed my duplicate of Red Wizzard's early UA... in the name of Science of course...

Reported on the Canonn Discord the discovery by CMDRs Mini_Watto and DeltaCentauri who discovered UAs in a signal source in the bubble.
System: Tauerni
Distance from Merope: 431 LY
This was apparently found in a signal source with religious fanatics, while on an assassination mission.

Julian McCoy is on the scene investigating.

EDIT: This is NOT my find. I'm just reporting (with permission) the discovery for those who are on here and not on discord.

I just want to make clear what I had found before burning myself up with the game.
I have serach Orion, Bernads Loop, and Hind nebulae for barnacles to disprove my theory that there are only 3 nebulae that hold barnacles and that they form a triangle.

I have not been able to disprove this theory and neither has anyone else.

There are three shapes in the barnacle's symbol which I believe represent 3 nebulae. MB said that the nebulae where barnacles are found correlate to their origin. The entire center of "The Triangle" is covered in locked systems. I dont think that the secrets behind the origin of these barnacles can be figured out yet. I also dont think that you will find any more barnacles in any other nebulae aside from California, Witch head and Pleiades. Imo those are the three nebulae represented in the symbol on the barnacles. It does not represent one nebulae because the same symbol is found on all barnacles regardless of what nebulae.
Imo this is a dead end trail and is part of the reason why I got burned out a bit with the game.

We are also waiting for the devs in Merope to do something. That capital ship is either hiding form the UAs, waiting for something to happen, or securing the barnacle. The problem with them securing that barnacle is that there are no ground protections for that barnacle. Perhaps they are near the barnacle because it is providing stealth against the UAs? I heard some of the patrols talking on the coms. Some of them were talking about getting revenge and not worried about pay anymore. It seems they have been in combat with some other group or possibly ETs... who knows. I went there 2 days ago and there was another player there who said that you basically needed to sneak in or you would be attacked. I cannot confirm this or not but I did land my ship a good distance and then went with the srv to the barnacle. It was glowing pretty good, and there seems to be a kind of flickering light emitted from it. I dont know if that was normal.

Imo we are waiting for the devs to continue the story but dont let me stop you from looking for more stuff.

That's very interesting news, finally. Something new.
Question: has the UA been found free floating or was it in the hold of some of the ships there?

Nice.

Several of these were spotted in the beta, but this is the first I've heard of in the 'real game'.

I'm not in game, just secondhand reporting, but I believe it was free floating in the USS.

NetSlayer mentioned that this had been seen in non-beta before, but it's the first I'm hearing about it.

Well actually if you check ED reddit and the canonn reddit people have come across these like... 3 times already. There pretty are but im pretty sure its just flaire. Considering how there comms fill up with there chatter saying stuff like "This arefact is our salvation! the gods bestowed this gift upon us!" etc. Although I wonder what happens if you give them more UAs..

Not sure if this was discovered before but I'll try my luck anyway. I found a shipwrecked Diamondback Explorer on Daibais A1 and I was looking around it on the free camera. It has some sort of markings on top of it. Also, it was transporting very different goods, unlike any kind of human transport.
