Well all this and still no idea why UA point to Merope.... There is something so obvious we can't see it .... I hope we don't have to turn around merope star to make time go back....

Actually... i think we will know soon.
Right now something is starting to happen in Merope. And my guess is, that we've had time to figure it out, and now - while we dont see it - if we wont find it, this something will find us. And that scenario is probably the worse one.
There needs to be something... something that we are missing... and we have less and less time with each day...

i am in the flame nebula zone, unexplored system: oochost uz-m d8-16 landed on planet 1 a

during the glide i've heard distinctively a classic ''bang'' sound of a ship exiting the supercruise.
but there isn't anything on my radar and i can't see anything around me.

actually i am scared as hell,  what   is going on ?

i know that someone else experienced this too.
i hope it's a bug or a glitch ... otherwise i am doomed :()

I saw today someone on Twitch, and the same thing happend to him, he was looking for the Farragut on Merope ant this sound apeared at least once - i think it is a bug tho...

I think the vulcanism is random (the meat in this burger is 100% pure beef*) - but I do think other patterns are starting to emerge.
The Rocky planets are the 'exceptions' that I see (20% of the sample is a large exception though).

The pattern I see is - High Metal Content, low-G (<0.25), temp 300-450K with clusters at 375-380K and 423K

As pointed out before though - only searching these types of planets would be self-confirming bias - the sample of planets is still too small.

*burger is 30% meat

This is why I'm arguing that Merope/Pleione are outliers. If they weren't "part of the mold" you could also add "65-67% Metal, 32-34% Rocky" and systems that sit just outside the nebula, not within. The *only* planets which deviate from that are Merope and Pleione

Nothing else really suggests why MB would say the Merope barnacle as an initial find was "one of the harder ones", as finding barnacles full stop is simply not an easy task.

The challenge now though is finding others that fit Merope or Pleione, i.e are physically inside the nebula and don't have that metal/rocky content, starting with California and Witch Head nebulas. Sadly the chances of convincing people to search places where they're *less* likely to spawn is a huge ask since
- The task is so immense
- Rewards for doing so are non-existent

... I'm not going to practice what I preach here, because looking for barnacles is simply not the gameplay I look for, and that's the same reason we'll struggle to ever break confirmation bias that the Merope and Pleione barnacles are outliers.

I've yet to espouse any particular theory on UAs and Barnacles. No more.

Barnacles are a beach head / mining operation of a non-Thargoid alien race. UAs are a Thargoid "warning" system that have located such a beach head on Merope and are either cordoning it off or attempting to warn us of this new alien presence.

As with all good theories, this one is completely unverifiable at present ;)

I have serach Orion, Bernads Loop, and Hind nebulae for barnacles to disprove my theory that there are only 3 nebulae that hold barnacles and that they form a triangle.

I have not been able to disprove this theory and neither has anyone else.

with all the respect, sir, nothing has been disproved or proved yet.

I've spent considerably more time searching planets that are outside the narrow confines you've defined, mostly by design.

I disagree with your premise that rewards are non-existent. I would argue that the rewards are considerably higher for finding an outlier planet with barnacles than finding yet-another-barnacle on a planet that fits perfectly with the existing data. (Note that I have IMMENSE respect for everyone who's found a barnacle on their own, whether a new one on a known barnacle planet, a new planet nearby, or one in a completely different region of space.)

Sure, the rewards aren't monetary, but then if people just wanted money, there are plenty of things they wouldn't do (but do) in Elite.

Unscannable?? ... An Update to my previous post:

It's been a week since my trip out to the Merope and crashed Anaconda Barnacle sites. I returned to Pleiades Sector JC-U B3-2. The system was now able to be scanned. So it must have just been a momentary glitch. Whew ... not Thargoids yet :)

This is either a bug or a new effect as you exit Glide, I've noticed it a few times recently, the first it was accompanied by a white flash in the centre of the screen, it only seems to happen after you do a successful Glide and not when Glide Aborted comes up. There was a thread about it a few days ago here https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...-Possible-alien-encounter?highlight=meteorite

Reported on the Canonn Discord the discovery by CMDRs Mini_Watto and DeltaCentauri who discovered UAs in a signal source in the bubble.
System: Tauerni
Distance from Merope: 431 LY
This was apparently found in a signal source with religious fanatics, while on an assassination mission.
Visual evidence provided:
Julian McCoy is on the scene investigating.

EDIT: This is NOT my find. I'm just reporting (with permission) the discovery for those who are on here and not on discord.

Interesting, but given that it is showing as 98%, I'm actually guessing somebody has jettisoned it and it's degrading... it's that or it's been shot at with something low powered....

Hmm...

You know, I've been trying to design a ship decal like the one for Distant Worlds expedition.

Reference:
10cp8h1.jpg

I was designing one that says "Barnacle Hunters" around the top with the year 3302 below it. The design in the center would have a view like from the bottom of a canyon looking up, with a distinct barnacle (and symbol) in view. Above the barnacle, you can see the stars with an Asp Explorer flying over it (or Cobra/Anaconda variant). This decal would be made available to the commanders who discovered a barnacle.

But include every scientist here, I was also designing a decal that says "Canonn Scientist" with a Unknown Artefact and Barnacle in the center, with a distinct exploration ship (like the ones above) zooming past.

My motivation for these is because there is currently no significant reward in game for such a difficult discovery like a Barnacle. Outside of the game, your name is put on a spreadsheet and your name remembered by fellow scientists. Imagine if you could have a unique decal for these scientific efforts.

The problem with the UA belonging to two different species is that they both share the same look, the same markings. They look like they were made by the same race.

or just using the same materials by two different races. why would one (barnacle) have a logo and no the other?

There is something wierd going on with those religious types. I dropped on a 'Encoded Emission' USS today. The type with a large section with a scannable black box.

There were three intact but burned ships there. One Sidewinder, one DBS and one fed fighter. The wierd thing was that they played religius sounding music from the empty cockpit.

The Sidewinder and the DBS also had 'Swiss flag symbols' inside the cockpit.

It was all quite peculiar.

I have a vid., but it needs editing and cmpression. It's 2.1GB:D

I love a good unverifiable theory as much as the next person and you have a really good one. :) I like the idea that we could very well be clipping the wires of a vast perimeter security fence. Even if the wire turns a nice profit and is so useful in many ways, somewhere there are little red lights flashing in a monitoring room. The owners of the fence may not see that as a good excuse for us dismantling it [big grin]

I can just imagine M.Brookes sat reading this thread with popcorn in amusement that we havn't found whatever is lurking in the vicinity of Merope.

Has anyone tried searching for black ships?... Don't forget to check in the shadows...
