Collector limpets shouldn't scoop "abandoned" cargo

I like the idea of adding "destroy cargo".
Which I'd be for too only that someone already invalidated it thanks to the smugglers. Only way to have it working both ways would be to limit it to mined cargo, which is currently probably not possible to tell apart from 'looted', like a random UA for example.

I like the idea of the limpets simply getting the message "here, I dropped that stuff on purpose, don't even dare to bring it right back to me you morons". Seems the most logical approach.

+1

I made this suggestion millions of years ago in the XBOX bug reports. I thought it must be a bug, because why else would it say "abandon" if not so that your limpets wouldn't go get it? Who, other than yourself, is supposedly abandoning the cargo? If it is not supposed to affect limpet behavior, then what exactly is "Abandon" supposed to affect?

"Abandoned Cargo" is legal salvage for anyone else who decides to collect it. "Jettisoned Cargo" is marked as Stolen if taken by anyone other than yourself.

Basically, if you get pirated, you Jettison it rather than abandon it to increase the odds they'll be caught.

I have never once had a pirate care if I jettisoned cargo at all, abandoned or not. They always just attack. Is there some trick?

The trick is as follows: if you are attacked by a npc pirate you WILL be attacked. Even if you drop 700t cargo to a Cobra.
Npc pirates actually illustrate why you shouldn't even give in in the first place, after you did there's no reason left to not blow you up, for the lulz or whatever.

Just and idea. Have been doing a lot of mining lately. Normally during my endeavors I come across more valuable ore than what I've refined already. So I jettison a few tonnes of cargo to make room for the good stuff. But I find after I eject them, my collectors just pick them right back up, ignoring what I want them to get. So I have to fly like a kilo away, eject, and fly back to be sure they aren't prioritized by the limpets. I noticed there are to options to eject cargo. I think if you select the "abandon" option, collector limpets should ignore them or make them the very last priority. Maybe that is how it is intended? What is the difference between "eject" and "eject:abandon"? Sorry if this is already a topic. I searched a bit but this is my second post and trying to still figure the navigation. Thank you for the consideration

I agree with this in the sense that if I as a player have abandoned cargo trying to make space for something else, I wouldnt want my limpets picking it back up again.

I done this trick. I use close to a full load of Limpets when I mine. I also picky on what I harvest. So If it not higher then 15k resell or more. I don't mine it. So on a Asp Explorer I tend to avg 1.5 Million per run.

Here the trick with Full Limpets. Have a good refinery The More Bins the better. If you manage your Bins you will not have a problem with discard cargo because well you will not have any. But if you accidentally collect a cargo that you do not want. Save it until your Refinery is totally full with one or more good ores. I tend to wait until my Bins are max out with good ore like Painite . Then eject your cheap stuff. It automatically fills with Painite.

Now if I run out of space and still mining a asteroid. I finish up which take a few minutes with 2 mining lasers until depleted. Then stay in the one spot while I use my prospectors to look for a new location to mine. While my Collectors finish up their job.

Mining not that hard it just take Skill.

One thing also is that huge weapons seem to destroy mining containers easier than non huge. So on my Conda the huge pulse laser can just shoot the stuff I don't want, if I need to eject it. Sadly the medium guns and small guns wave around like an old lady with Parkinson's any time you aim at a piece of cargo! So frustrating. No... must... not..... shoot........ teh.......... cargoz............ sigh.

Another trick to open up space when you brought too many limpets is deploy six collectors, then shut off the collector controller in your modules tab. They'll all die. Now deploy six more. Boom, six cargo spaces just opened up.

- module tab
-- collector limpet controller
--- activate / repair
--- SET CARGO FILTERS (switch off all / switch on all option)
---- collect abandoned cargo (yes/no)
---- collect illegal cargo (yes/no)
---- collect specific cargo (in the subsection there would be only items floating in space within the range of your radar)
----- gold (yes/no)
----- platinum (yes/no)
----- structural regulators (yes/no)
----- ....
--- SET MATERIAL FILTERS (switch off all / switch on all option)
---- grade 1 (switch off all / switch on all option)
----- iron (yes/no)
----- nickel (yes/no)
----- ...
---- grade 2 (switch off all / switch on all option)
----- ...
--- SET COMPONENT FILTERS (switch off all / switch on all option)
---- grade 1 (switch off all / switch on all option)
----- salvageable scrap (yes/no)
----- ...

I want this now.

Limpets in free range mode no longer collect any cargo you eject, no matter how. Only a targeted limpet will work.
