Michael,
"- When determining the rank of NPC ships, use the player's combat rank" - you are not spawning any lower Rank NPC that may attack us right? Meaning they will still spawn as both CLEAN/WANTED but not engage us because they show some intelligence? I think it SHOULD be capped at 1 Rank above player combat rank who attack but all ranks are still spawned. I have hated to have only 3 Ranks consistently attack me (I'm Dangerous) and seen very little change in their styles of attack now. Only capping the top ranks it should ;)

I agree with you, but the problem is that these NPCs spawned by the game to go after you specifically are designed to attack you. They are designed to be a pain in the ass and 'provide challenge', although one would call them an annoyingly regular interruption to the flow of gameplay more than challenge, so I doubt Frontier will make it so that some of them wont bother you. They are designed to bother you. These aren't the normal background NPCs spawned by the game on the basis of the local conditions in the system, which already cover a wide range of ranks and equipments and behaviours and act like you described (if you're too tough for them they wont bother). These are not really part of the game world, they are as far as I can see merely a game designer's (rather lazy) response to the complaints that 'supercruise is boring'.

Do I understand correctly, if I wanted a special effect on a level 5 weapon upgrade , if I force it I will drop down level to 3 with this engineer?
So if I would want to force the special effects all 5 weapons on my python, I will have to craft enough other stuff to rank up a combined 10 levels in order to get there?

The concept is pretty cool, but dropping two whole ranks for one special effect is way too harsh. Half a rank per forced upgrade would feel about right imo. This will just make people that complained about "grindeness" before moan even louder.

You can't tell me its not too easy to gain rep. Some if the stuff is really easy to come by which means you can just craft useless upgrades to gain rank quickly.

You see an issue with that? Gaining rank is not the same as upgrading your ship with the upgrade you want. The good upgrades mostly require some pretty hard to get materials.

More than likely, weapons performance will be the most noticeable change if this means what I think it means. Thing is... I had no problems with the distributor performance in 2.0 on the Asp X or Python, and this is the first I have heard of any buff to this component.

It is about the engine capacitor. In 2.1, you could boost A LOT more with only 2 pips to engines than in 2.0, I dont understand how anyone could not have noticed that. And it was actually nice. With this change, in a heavy combat were you need pips to systems and weapons, you will be able to boost once or twice again and that was it. I will make fights more static again, dont like it.

Good list of fixes, BUT - I can't find any mention of the black HUD problem on xbox, and to me that is a serious bug that has stopped me playing several times.
Also I agree we need to be able to store cargo at stations, I keep getting it as rewards but if I don't sell it I get interdicted and destroyed, every time. We should at least be able to store it in our other ships at the same ports, that's just obvious, I can only assume it is planned for the future as the fact that we can't is very illogical.

Thanks again for the update, but PLEASE sort that black HUD bug, it's been far too long and it ruins the game.

So, does this update address the alleged 'random' interdictions by Commanders who state that they have no cargo / PP commitment / missions etc, yet are still being interdicted by Elite level NPC's every time they poke their nose out of a station?

(I'm out exploring so I don't know whether all of the posts about this are true or just hyperbole)

Lets all hail the youtube strawmen.

To clarify, I'm actually not among the most vehement naysayers (though I understand their concerns) and am generally happy with a lot of what the engineers brought to the table, and I just love the fact that it'll be almost impossible to find two ships that are exactly alike. It lets us really personalize ships and feel like "this one is unique to me" and that's great. Just saying that increasing grind and rng is probably not the best option at the current time, and am wondering why not just introduce fixed prices for these special effects and be done with it? Merely a suggestion.

Overall, the patch notes I'm happy with, lots of great changes in there. I'm not going to join you in calling Obsidian Ant and Kornelius Briedis "youtube strawmen", though, they made some valid points imho :)

Yes, a bit of history. When the beta first hit, the only way you could gain rep was via crafting. Then they added extra methods for gaining rep.....but there was no opportunity to test it in beta. I suspect this led to a situation where people could rank up much faster than intended.

He said that gaining rep via crafting is the fastest, and you say the opposite, just so you know...

The game as it was these last few weeks/months has been a lesson in frustration.

I honestly feel that FD are holding back from saying what many are thinking ; "If you want this game to work for as designed, start again with a new save." With combat now being matched to rank, which historically was far, far easier allowing players to hammer through combat by essentially farming any RES, and assuming that the AI is now reasonably balanced without cheating or one/two-shotting players, this may be worth thinking about. I know I'm considering it.

1) Not planned, but we'll see how this first incarnation turns out.

2) Largely based on feedback here on the forums and other social mediums and a little from metrics, we'll perform tweaks and adjustments.
Can we know how and when this will happen a little before the patch plz?

We didnt got any news or post about the intentions at all for 2 weeks, then this nice and huge patch, but still is not enough, a lot still need to be tweacked and fixed.

Just to like to Thank FD team for the HUGE difference of graphic quality on all the planet surfaces, it just makes the game even more awesome.
