Hmmmm... I flew around that planet and the shipping lanes the last two nights and never got a convoy above threat 3.
Master, Broker, Pathfinder - maybe rank related due to new AI mechanics?
I'm not sure whether to post in here or the Merope 5C thread, so I put Merope 5c -specific findings in that one. To sum up, though, I failed to find anything more than a bit of arsenic on the ground and no signal sources appeared in orbital cruise.

I'm back in the bubble for the next Buckball Racing Club event, now, but will resume either searching for UPs or anything odd on Merope 5c afterwards. I'm also still thinking of going back to the Running Man and looking for Barnacles there: I do feel that there are more nebulae that are home to them.

Just in case anything nasty pokes out..
and personally I think this is another wild goose chase. I think the new probe is just a way of confirming to us there is a relationship between the barnacles being engineered and created by the people who also created the probes.

Ehh I don't know about that. The UAs pointed us to Merope, where we first found barnacles, then I think MB said something to the effect of the barnacles aren't the reason they are pointing there, but they're pointing where they are supposed to or something. I think it would be a little strange to introduce a new variant - or whatever relation it has - to the UA solely to say "UAs, barnacles, you know...look!"
I kind of don't think they are made by the same people. UAs are soft and spongy looking, they are corrosive, they explode, and they seem to have some type of intelligence even if it's basic what with the pointing behavior. Now the probes are giving us even more specific instructions.
The barnacles on the other hand are rigid, spiky, machine-like don't really have any "behaviors" to speak of other than making glowy spikes.
My guess is UAs are alien, barns are man-made.

It takes awhile unfortunately, about six hours roughly from Mykl's record keeping
Haha. If I'm right, there should be another one pop up in another hour or so. I haven't pinpointed an exact time because I'm not sure if they just keep spawning after the intial one. Or if there is only one and we get lucky.
After an hour all i found was a keelback that then high waked it had no cargo. bed for me i will continue tomorrow. good luck night shift. o7
I think I'm finally going to join in on this alien conspiracy situation thing. I know I'm a little late to the party, but I'm on the Xb1, we are all late to the party, lol.
Last night did some skimming of Merope 5 C, visited the barnacle surrounded by defense turrets and skimmers. Found a POI near it that had 6 human popsicles needing rescued, coincidence? Probably not.
I did see a convoy on the way back that was so damn juicy I wish my Clipper was fitted for combat. 4 Type-9's and a Vulture. Probably didn't have anything worth taking, but still. It was tempting, lol.

Update on my status so far: I've been driving for the past 4 hours now (something like that) and all I've came across so far is a load, and I mean LOAD, of escape pods, my Anaconda must be holding about 30 or 40 of the damn things right now. I'm gunna pack up for the night and keep scouting tomorrow. Good luck Commanders!

So is it correct that the UP points to the nearest barnacle? So Merope 5C isn't really special? I'm at work right now and I'm not really able to check.

I'm not 100% but I believe that CMDR is stating his opinion not a fact. As far as I'm aware, the first UP was taken to merope star and led the people to 5c. The closest barnacle would of been 2A but the UP did not point there, pointed to 5C
