Cobra Mk IV

Viper MK4 vs MK3... balanced differences.

Cobra MK4... same armour, same power distributor, huge decrease in speed...

I love a moan when a ship let's me down... ;)

True but the internal compartments are much bigger. You go from 4/4/4/2/2/2 to 4/4/4/4/3/3/2/2 so you can really add hull reinforcement and tank if you want.

^^ THIS, THIS! This is exactly what I'm doing with my Mk.IV. Now to just unlock some Engineer upgrades. I've got the invites but the chatter about the incessant grind for mats is rather putting me off at the moment.

So...people are complaining, because an entirely separate user group that didn't have a chance to get the Cobra MkIV, are now getting that chance, and it in no way impacts the previous user group? Let's look at this.

PC players who were early adopters got exclusive access to the MkIV, while it was unavailable to Xbox players.

Now, Xbox players who are early adopters get access to the MkIV, while nobody new on PC is able to get it.

I really don't see the problem here. If you're playing on PC, why are you mad about a different PLATFORM getting access to the Cobra MkIV? Nobody new on PC will have it, that exclusivity is guaranteed; this is in no way affecting what the PC players were told their MkIV is exclusive. Are you saying that Xbox shouldn't get an equal opportunity when the same content finally arrives on that platform? The PC players do not see Xbox players in the game world, so what difference does it make?

See, what I'm really hearing is that Xbox CMDRs shouldn't receive equal treatment as PC CMDRs, and if you want to be against equality, be my guest.

Are they happy enough that we don't have the gold asp and black friday incentives (at least yet)?

Greetings Commanders,

We've had a number of you asking and we're glad to be able to confirm that the Cobra Mk IV will be available to Xbox One Commanders who purchase Horizons. This is a limited time offer, as with the PC release.

Xbox One Commanders who purchase Horizons season pass before the 30th July will receive the Cobra Mk IV in game. (Commanders will need to purchase the Cobra Mk IV with in game credits)

Horizons is now available in the Xbox Store and includes all the Planetary Landings and The Engineers content as well as future Horizons content!

Fly safe Commanders.

Its a bit rubbish. Imagine traveling around the galaxy in an inferior version of the galactially awesome MK3 because you were an early adopter. .....then you get killed.
Let me think................?

No, Not complaining that XBOX users get a chance to own or purchase this ship, even for a limited time.
In fact, was glad to see it was available again.
So glad, that I spent a couple hours racing around space trying to buy one. But, I'm a PC user so, after reading this I've found out that it's still not available to me.

I bought ED (not horizons) when the ship was available with the same deal that Xbox users who purchase ED Horizons within a time frame.
Horizons was just a bit outside my budget at the time.
I finally bought Horizons during the time that it (Cobra MK IV) was no longer available for free, but could be bought at stations for in game credits.

Unfortunately, I did not notice the notice that it would be unavailable after a certain date, therefore, did not buy one.
Besides, I was off on a jaunt to discover pristine metallic rings, way outside the bubble.
Intended to get one when "I got back to the bubble" but by then, poof. not available anywhere.
Snooze ya lose, no worries here.
HOWEVER! Seeing it available again but only for a select platform, kinda hurts.

So now, I can only hope that someday there will be "Joe's used shipyard" or that FD will make it available to everyone again.
So hey FD. How about, after the offer expires, ya just make it available for sale at stations again, for everybody?
Comon, you know you want to.
What'll it take to get me to fly home in a brand new Cobra MK IV today? huh?

I flew in one for all of 5 minutes all A-rated, returned to the station, and got back into my trusty Cobra Mk.3 speed machine. The Mark 4 should marked for (pun intended) the bone yards.

Despite the name and profile resemblance they are very different ships. It's best to think of the CM4 as a mini Python.

Very true. One good thing I will say about the Mk.4 is that I like having ample internals for that price range. I suppose with an engineer G5 thruster upgrade it might be more my speed (again, pun intended).

There, fixed that for you.

Sure thing, but a lot of people do like it, cheers.

Not every ship has to be an awesome combat boat...

This might sound weird, but here goes..

I feel like as a collector, I have to own this ship so that I have it once it's no longer available to buy.

But I actually wish it was available to anyone for forever cause them I wouldn't be MADE to have to keep this thing around. It's just not that good of a ship.

I actually like the Mk IV, it's a Jack of all trades a bit like the Python....like a step between the Cobra III and an Asp. It's certainly not for those who judge a ship as only a fighter, but then again There's much more to do in ED than blow stuff up :)

I was gutted when I couldn't buy one on my wifes account.

I mean.. you're not wrong...

But here's the rub: I already have a Python.

So really.. what do I need the Cobra Mk4 for? Again, I feel like I'm keeping it around only cause I don't want to miss the opportunity to own it. If it were a capable fighter? Explorer? Hauler? Then it's got a niche I could use, but I already have a Jack of all trades.

Likewise with my Python....but for pilots still getting to the purchase price of the God of all ships, it's a very good step in the right direction.

I got one initially just because I could...I realised after flying it and stuffing all the bits in that would normally take a Python, I decided it's really rather good. It has better thought out module space and sizes than an Asp, for instance. As a miner, as a pre-Asp explorer or a BB trader/smuggler for those still reaching for the Python trigger... it kinda just sets the mood.

I tend to look at ships in what use they are in a multirole sense, kinda hard not to after you have a Python for as long as we've had one...but coming up through the ranks again like I'm doing on my wife's GT, I'd certainly jump at the chance of a Mk IV.

I wanted to love it. I had to leave it.
Maybe when I get round to some engineer visits it will get some love.
It looks better than the mk3 though, definitely, although could do with some new paintjobs.

Imho it doesn't look better then my Cobra Mk3 at all, I bought the customise kit for it and it just looks awesome now.
In functionality the Mk4 has nothing to add for me personally since I already own a Mk3 and a Python.
I tried it at the day of release but sold it that same day again.

Yeah, I think I'll just refit my Mk4 for mining to save myself the hassle every time I get an itch.

I'm gonna give the Mk.4 a go for a rares run tonight. The extra compartments are looking attractive for some more cargo space plus space for shields. I'll just transfer my upgraded thrusters from the Mk.3 to give it more ooompf. Right now I'm running the Mk.3 without shields for more cargo capacity, I love it for missions and light exploring, but for rares I want to carry as much as possible for added profits without facing a higher re-buy cost. I have an asp ex but It's all kitted out for exploration and I'm too lazy to re-fit it.
