Jaques the Cyborg - a background history, info on current events, and possible future projects?

Yep that's clear thanks, I posted the same in the search for Jaques thread. You've also linked the "Tales from the frontier" book, which is a different book, official ED fiction, is there also a Jaques story in there?
Ah well spotted, I meant to link the Life on the Frontier site, not Tales from the Frontier. Now fixed :) I'm not sure if Jaques makes an appearance in Tales from the Frontier.

While everyone is visiting the Dumbbell Sector feel free to contribute to the Dumbbell Project. The goal is to map it completely to gather data for future colonisation.

This project takes a different approach to colonisation, no time limits, no restrictions on gameplay, simply scan systems while you're in the sector and record any interesting finds. It's a long term project to map every system in the sector.

As you all know, group exploration with a goal makes exploration much more enjoyable. There's an opportunity to synergise the "August Exodus" and "Dumbbell Project" and make progress simultaneously. If you're interested in long term, large scale colonisation then gathering data is the first step!

So far most proposals for colonisation have been to create single isolated, long distance colonies which would have no intereaction with the rest of the galaxy's trade routes and factions.
The Dumbbell Project will demonstrate the feasibility of large scale colonisation! The sector has a 100ly radius. To date the following has been discovered:

13 Earth likes
67 Water CFTs
98 Water Worlds
335 High Metal Content CFTs
7 Rocky CFTs
24 Ammonia Worlds

Apply this same concept to more distant sectors and we'll be able to discover and record good regions to colonise when the mechanics are added in the future! :)

Here's a sample of some of the colonisable systems: https://dumbbellsector.imgur.com/
More details about the project are listed in the link at the top of this post.

Thanks Elementical. That's an excellent project! I've added a link to it under the Dumbbell waypoint.

If the August Exodus becomes a big event it should benefit the Dumbbell project if a shipping lane is established through that region. At the moment I think most people heading out to Jaques are making a beeline for him, but we'll try and promote use of the basecamps and shipping lane as best as possible. Flying out there in wings and small groups (Distant Worlds style), with rest stops and basecamp meetups may appeal to those who've tasted it during some of the big expeditions (its much more fun!). So hopefully this may work out well for both projects.

Aaaand again, if my speculations about Jaques' involvement in the first contact will be confirmed in next season (or maybe sooner)... and my next thought about those UA's and probes and barnacles. What IF some alien civilization was on the edge of extiction by the threat of another one, and all these things we're found is an attempt to start tne new colony, new start for them? Pleiades and California nebulae maybe, just maybe too close to the heart of their fight (Regor sector maybe?) And there's Jaques, loaded with bunch of UA's, near the nebula. But! Look at the neighbourhood! Will the Festival Grounds became the Breeding Grounds? Or maybe I'm just tinfoiling myself too hard....

GalNet has an interesting thing to say today :)

Galactic News: Jaques Station on the Mend
07 JUL 3302

Only a week after an independent mission was launched to bring aid to Jaques Station, personnel at the starport have reported that limited repairs have been completed. A member of the station's technical team confirmed that meta-alloys had been used to partially restore the starport's commodities market, and went on to say:

"We're hugely grateful to all the pilots who have so selflessly made the long trek to Eol Prou RS-T d3-94. But we feel bad about not being able to reimburse those who schlepped out here, so we're trying to secure funds for a proper campaign to repair the starport. More details will follow soon."

Meanwhile, reports have surfaced of an increasing number of independent pilots and civilian delegations departing for Eol Prou RS-T d3-94, indicating a strong impulse to establish permanent bases in the region.

I'm one of those pilots but that article has completely convinced me to head back to the bubble.

aaand I've just written a song... :)

Molan Rule has reported the presence of a large debris field in the rings of one of the planets of the system Jaques is in. There's Anacondas, T9s, Diamondbacks, Eagles and even a broken apart Cutter.

Perhaps this system is a nexus where ships experiencing misjumps fall out. Or it might be where ships that have been yanked out of witchspace are dumped by agents unknown. It warrants further investigation at the very least.

Right now I'm slowly filling my exploraconda with MAs (in a responsible and sustainable manner!). My intention is to carry 200t of MAs and 40t of food for the Famine that's broken out at Jaques. There are Distribution Centres and Seeking Food POIs in the system, signifying the Famine state. My ship can jump 36ly with 240t fully loaded (over 50ly unladen).

That is most likely a typo. They just copy pasted the wrong system from the list of locations for Jaques.
Most likely. It's also possible that the list is auto generated and there is still some register of Jaques in Gliese 1269. Can anyone go to Jaques last known location in Gliese 1269 and see if there's any remnant? Maybe a USS that turns out to be huge high wake that can still be scanned? Or scan the nav beacon there and see what it says? I'm at BP so can't do it.

The galnet message is hinting at a CG and a base ? Is this the start of expansion goals you mentioned last year?

Maybe we need to map the area for places to build at. I already brought data back on the nebula.

Ive been here a week ive got 200 systems already fully dss scanned save for targets beyond 100,000ls from the primary

As soon as jacques universal cartogracphis data is back up ill be selling that said theres about 50 systems within the 20ly bubble that if u zero over jacques where he is now and goto show data for / no data for under the galmap local cartographics data, like in the bubble u can purchase data as those systems have already been mapped and turned in by explorers back in the bubble ( will save time and each system sells for about 500 credits) theres a lot of EL, WW and terraformable candidates and other interesting configurations out here

He's been listed as being at this location for months. I went there when Palin announced a sale on Meta Alloys (never quite got that, since you make thousands per unit loss wherever you sell them) and Jaques was nowhere to be seen. This was before he announced his intentions to jump to BP, I think. Certainly before he was reported missing, anyway.

I got here last night, but still fairly new to Elite and exploration, anything I can usefully do?
I don't think there's much to do out there now. The initial repair using meta alloys seems to have worked, and FD have hinted nothing will be done with Jacques (just yet). I don;t think they'll have any plans for him until after the Dangerous Games, or possibly not until 2.2.

The August Exodus event is on the cards once the Dangerous Games are over - its hoped that if we can get hundreds of players out there it'll show FD the desire for some permanent content or a CG is worth their while putting the dev time into it.

Other than that you can help the mapping team create an exploration route if you decide to head home - check this post for details : https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...d-from-explorer(s)-returning-home-from-Jaques
