I am absolutely not disappointed by this fact. As I have already posted in off-topic sub-forum, it seems really strange to me that they are unable to add control setting setup to AC right away and presumably there won't be TrackIR support - the state that was in November 2013.

I won't be disappointed if AC is delayed. The problem that concerns me most is that there won't be control settings setup in-game and presumably no TrackIR support.

Controls or trackir didn't even make the list of bugs....

They sounded a lot more game breaking than a bit of a problem with head tracking (if that is indeed an issue.)

I really wish them well as I would have backed them (I just don't have the rig to even try right now,) but I think they've bit off a little more than they can chew.

Expectations and all that.

Unfortunately not that surprising. That's really not good idea announce delay in day you have promised everyone that they will release this time. Come on, it's an alpha. How much polished you want it to be? Manage some expectations.

I have backed them, however, the problem is that is seems to me like that they did not do anything relating for DFM from December until PAX.

I am playing ED with TrackIR and cannot imagine the game without it. Also SC already supports OR with its puny resolution and I really do not understand how come they did not implement TrackIR support yet for AC as TrackIR is currently more popular then OR.

This is also not a surprise to me. However, is quite strange to see such large projects being done the last moment.

It looks like the 'blocker' bugs will make the game unplayable. While I think people will be reasonably tolerant of bugs, releasing it in a state where no-one can actually play the game for more than a few seconds will create much more of a backlash than delaying.

Ouch.

I don't envy the job of developers. They very rarely get any kudos while their game is still being played. It's not till it's long gone that people sing their praises.

I can see numerous bugs and greater delays to come, still, once all these issues are resolved then progress should speed up. They are still creating content for other aspects of the game so it's not as though this situation is too disastrous.

Fortunately I have plenty of games to keep me occupied until they iron out the bugs, elite may not have the level of detail SC does, but at least progress seems
a lot smoother.

But then how come that they have postponed the release the day of the release? Did they find these bugs yesterday evening? I doubt that. Most probably they knew all this bugs and hoped to fix them the last moment. But this simply doesn't work - never leave major things to do for the last moment. Or do not give exact date of the release if you can't deliver on time, which happens to CIG all the time I might add.

Some people are fools IMO, they have done the right thing. So long as it is only a matter of weeks not months. Yes alpha is alpha but you have seen what many are like over there. Massive game breakers would create more heat than ever. Asking for money back due to delayed alpha is nuts. Release dates slip, end of story and this is even more fluid as its an alpha

Imagine the spinning sidewinder moans and multiply by 100.

So long as it is out soon, me personally am happy

Remember it was not so long ago some on here were expecting a finished ED in March.........

The is a post in the Katamari whinge thread that says the delay is because;

For the benefit of those not in chatroll talking to Ben and Lewis - the main issue has been a bug that appeared today, in today's final build, it appeared out of nowhere and they don't know what's causing it.

It causes the game to crash extremely frequently whenever a Vanduul ship is either destroyed, or spawned. Given that Vanduul are being spawned and destroyed continuously, you might be able to get between 0-2 minutes of game time before the client crashes.

That's the blocker, it's a fresh bug and there's no way they could even consider releasing until it's been patched.

This isn't a "Oh it's a buggy alpha I expect bugs" type of bug, this is a "OK this is completely unplayable" bug. As soon as that one blocker is fixed, I'm sure they'll launch.

It wasn't in their last build, and they have no idea why it's happening now - or how to get rid of it.

So it does sound like it came out of nowhere - assuming of course that the poster is correct about what Ben and Lewis said and that what they said is accurate.

Word.

I'm really all about the idea of crowdfunding. I just worry that building people's expectations up like this -then dashing them at the last minute - will lead to new laws that restrict it.

No biggie it will be out soon......

I wonder if FromHell is going to be even handed enough to admit perhaps FD are not so inept/dishonest compared to CIG after all?

That's not good news - I was looking forward to trying it out! Hope the CIG team get through the bug extermination process swiftly - apparently there are going to be daily updates on bug status.

Might be wise to keep the champers on ice till PB drops tomorrow - which I expect it will.

But just in case - to avoid any potential egg meets face type scenario.

:D

Isn't there a point prior to release of a new version or build that code writing gets shut down, just to prevent situations like this?

e.g. You have what you think is a sufficient build ready for release, you shut it down around a week before hand, then worry about distribution?

Seems to me I've heard of that protocol before, and it would prevent disasters like this.

'Disaster' might be a strong word, but CIG is already getting a reputation for over-promising and under-delivering. They may only have one or two more situations like this left before the dam really breaks on them.

I was intrigued by the 29th May that so much sounded like a desire to be out before ED's prem beta on the 30th. Why would you need to do that? To be honest that's a compliment to ED. Tomorrow, even if the PB is Alpha 4 with the odd bug fix, its suddenly half the price to get access to. Factor in the unlimited downloads its suddenly only a premium of 30 for early access rather than 130. Plus ED is in beta not alpha. That is a huge milestone and creates a huge differential.

So the interesting thing for me is how long is it delayed and in what state DFM is in when released. Huge pressure on the dev's here.

FD's "soon" was probably the supreme invention.
