UAs, Barnacles and other mysteries Thread 8 - The Canonn

Let's not gloss over what MB said.

He said 'the message has a very specific purpose and it's very different from the UA'.

Do we even know what the purpose of the UA or the morse they broadcast is? We don't.

We have a very strange rule to follow in our hands. Speculate a theory for the UA and something distinctly different for the UP.

This is like solving two equations with two unknown variables. We can see the results, we have to figure out the variables.

I think there are much more than two unknown variables! But a bit of intelligent speculation might help.
the UA and UP are clearly related, and point to. Merope and 5C respectively; this has led to a few possible hypotheses, of which I favour the distress signal/searching for Paul variations. The UA scans our ships, but appears to do nothing, people have speculated it transmits those pictures somewhere, possibly Merope, since we see the morse (& have decoded the ship outlines it contains) & that ties in with a Galnet post about them sending information over vast distances. From a post this morning the UP response ( the chittering part of the signal) when scanned is slightly different (as yet unconfirmed, but from a creditable source) in different locations. So what if the UA is actually scanning for a Paul ship, & is transmitting the scans to the UPs. Possibly if the UA scans a Paul ship &/or the UP is scanned by a Paul ship their behaviour may be different to when we scan it.

not sure this helps, but I like to think aloud

I have an incredibly stupid idea...

Get a bunch of ships with as much shielding and hull protections as you can on them... line them up protectively over any barnacle sites and create an array of shield repair ships to support those... and then shield repair ships to support the repair ships...
- When the Farraguts show up try to keep the barnacles alive?

Also, try to keep them alive in the same places as the UP probe indicates positions.
- Honk where it seems to show a transmission of some kind...

Weird thought...
Top left, outgoing signal
Top right, in coming signal (missing ?)
Bottom left, relay / reception tower (?)
Bottom right, relay / reception tower (?)

Do we have any idea how far out from Merope anyone travelled to date?

The reason I'm asking is, we know the UAs form a shell around Merope with a radius of 135-150 ly, and they point to Merope.

Now, since the UP points to 5C, maybe there's a shell around 5C, one which has a much smaller radius reachable within the Merope system. A few hundred thousand ls maybe?

IMHO:
  • UAs look like a defensive sensor network. They are arrayed in a shell around Merope, and relay ship sightings and location back to base.
  • UPs look like a contact vehicle (but could be ripping data out of our ships). They seem to be trying to communicate something, we don't know what, but presumably a location where we might learn or find more.
Their communication methods make an interesting contrast:
  • UAs (morse code, and using our own system names) are low tech to the point of being bizarre, and using our own system names has (presumably, "lost") human fingerprints all over it.
  • The UP "image in the spectrogram" is a step up in technology, and shows a conspicuous lack of language capability. If UPs are a contact vehicle, why don't UPs bleep our their message to us in morse?
Perhaps the UP makers didn't expect that their contact probe would be found by humans, or (less likely given their physical similarity) maybe UAs and UPs are made by different agencies.

What if someone scan multiple UAs floating in space? They all will turn to Merope? Or maybe signal will be more readable?

I am currently 700,000ls out. Traveled at 65c so I didnt miss any USS. Nothing out here but Threat 0's

At some point I travelled 500K ls above plane in Merope system.
This was in 2.0 IIRC. Nothing special found. (I was searching for IC349).

Also good idea to add sound analyzers and binary decryptors in game! It will be good step to incrase science and exploration motivation and interest.

Didn't see any when I was traveling out to see if I could get a UA to "sing" at max SC speed

Edit:

Although, there were some USSs' that showed in my com panel, that I didn'tt see (Maybe I was going too fast)

What happens if you bring a UA and a UP to an Barnacle on Merope 5C? Could the message from the UP be the key to open a Barnacle?

I like your idea. Don't suppose it's possible to play the UP sound back to itself or to the Barnacle through some sort of local communication. I'm guessing you can only verbally communicate with wingmates though

I said this a couple months back.

Have a science lab module like a refinery where you can take ADS scans or SRV scans and disseminate more information from them by subjecting them to tests on audio, encryption etc.

Hey guys probably nothing but my friend and i are at Merope 5C and my friends ship had all his modules pretty much self destruct at cords -11 -165
I did a bit of looking around and by chance found 3 Data point crashed probes in the area.. i never find these things normally never mind 3 in 10 min. Makes me think the Feds have something to find in the area... or just luck on my behalf. Anyway thought it would be worth a mention.
Cheers.
