According to the fine folks over in the discord #chat_science, ^

THERE IS SOMEONE ALIVE

From discord, #chat_science:

Nodus Cursorius - Today at 10:20 AM
.. -- .- .-.. .. ...- .
It's "I AA AM AI ....(5 second pause) I AM ALIVE" then a long (20 second pause) and it loops - via @QuantumDelpha

How do I rescue the poor sod?

Wait, what if that first part was supposed to be "I AM AI... I AM ALIVE"?

Awesome job!

Why is it that some ppl find 3(!) new barnacles l, and I found non in the last 18 hours.. Lol

Ive spent weeks flying over planets looks and never found one that i did not know it was there.
so i share your pain :)

Shame he did not tell us what system. because if its legit. he may have been the first person to find a free floating UP.
Not ingame at the mo how many systems are out there?

maybe experience, a better eye and graphics and some peeps are just lucky sods
not sure what experience has to do with flying over the surface of a planet at a low altitude, well apart from not crashing.
Graphics are always on maximum but i am using a rift may have an effect.

Okay, I tried my best to use the diagram to produce coordinates using the following hypothesis :

  • UA found something, UP is investigating it and reporting the position to merope.
  • Region of interest is in the 135-150 lyr range of the UA shell (found it, stoped expansion)
  • The UP give angles. UR quadrant is a pictogram for latitude, UL is pictogram for longitude. Special thx to however suggested it.
  • Coordinate system is galactic with merope as the origin, zero on sagitarius, positive angles (ccw). Special thx to Formidine rift stuff for that.

Assuming all this, we have one latitude (-50°~) and two longitude (120° and 150°~). I computed coord from Merope PoV then corrected for Sol.

having two longitudes bothers me, but I cannot find any clever explaination beyond designating an area rather than a precise point. Tables are for long1(120) and long2(150) respectively

If what we have is indeed coordinate to a region/system, there are other coord systems such as equatorial and ecliptic
that could be considered. However, since these would be tied to Merope 5c, converting them to Elite coordinates is going
to be very hard and their zero longitude is not well defined. For these reasons it did not bother with them.

Then I might have misinterpreted the angles and the pictograms and finally maybe we are not even facing angles.

On the + side, it is a testable idea given that the area is rather well defined.
This made me realise something: the UA is intended to be deployed outside Merope because it only points to the star; perhaps the UP is intended to be deployed in the Merope system because it is programmed specifically to point to 5c? That would mean free-floating UPs might be found in the Merope system somewhere but not necessarily close to 5c - they could be anywhere. So where would it be worthwhile deploying UPs to in Merope? Could they be monitoring the worlds hosting Barnacles, perhaps, or is there something else they are keeping an eye on?

Umm...not sure of its significance, or not, but I just read an interesting post on the EDC page on facebook, which has (correctly) mentioned that the Almagest system has been renamed to Wredguia XD-K D8-78....and the station that was in the system has now disappeared completely.
You can still search the GalMap for almagest, but it brings you to this renamed system.
Oh, and the name of the 'missing' station?
Sirius Reach.

Tinfoil set to maximum!

Are you sure? That system looks fine to me.

Yeah, Barneys are easy to spot though, they pop up from 4km. I must admit that im only checking canyons. Maybe i shouldn't..
Same here, though at the moment thats the only places they have been found, as far as i am aware anyway though this may have swept by me in the thread without notice by me :D
