well i think ive officially given up. Found a UP near Ross 47. Took it all the way back to Merope, dropped it out of my cargo hold and poof....gone. 4 hours of searching wasted. Im landing on 5C for now and going to remove my helmet and slowly choke to death.....

Do you have any video of this? Was it something like this? Have you asked support to give the UP back to you?

Now CMDR... We're trying to create a scarcity of tin foil here. You can't go using common sense like that!

Dont worry I'm still trying to grow barnacles :D Tin-foil is for amateurs, I have a have a meta alloy-foil flight suit. Please now let me get back to singing with my Unknown Artifact friends, o7

a checkin from the jaques thread, nothing of note, no barnacles or intersting things have been found out there, a small group continues to hunt them though. were there any results from the elephants trunk nebula ?

I heard with arguments somewhere on forums that UA and UP is human-maded things.

Judging by the design of the space stations and the ships in the game, I'd be willing to bet the UA and UP are not human made.

They don't conform to normal designs to likely be human made.

Well, that image is on the FrontPage since day one together with the golden disk image, but you know, you've put me in your ignore list perhaps, to not "disturb" you solving the mystery, so maybe you've missed it ;)
I hope you didn't miss me finding the UP Convoy, or me getting the UP reply to my lucky Honk, or me decoding the UA morse for all the ships.

Suggesting people to add other people to their ignore list is not fair, nor smart, IMHO.
In 8 threads I've never ever added anyone in my ignore list, because I think that EVERYONE could be important. Everyone could count.

Take care.

Since the beginning of Alpha I've never felt the need to use the ignore list. You never know what you might miss.

When its suggested that the lines, the letters, the notes, etc mean lat or long, my brain says "if it does, what would they have done to represent the negative number?"

-90 is the same as 270

That works for headings, but not co-ordinates.

Haha, it might very well be, but I've missed it, whatever the point was :) Thinking about it though, actually, the ship already uses 0-360 for long, but -90/+90 for lat doesn't it... (or 0-180 if positive numbers are used.)

yeesss, but EDs co-ords are flipped for some reason, so it gets really confusing.

The flipped coordinates were confirmed by support to be a bug in the support forum (looked there as it confused me to no end) about a month ago.

Another theory, with pictures and should be fairly easy to position in space:

The above shows the UP clue superimposed over the entire Merope system. I centered the grid on Merope 5, and pointed the line in the bottom right quadrant to line up with the system star. Then I scaled the view down:

I scaled the clue so that the circle matches Merope 5's rings and the top left arc happens to line up with the orbit of the first planet/moon. Coincidence?

So, assuming the symbols in the corners are binary, and they are defining a series of steps, then I have

1) aligned the two stars as step 1.
2) scaled the clue to match a celestial feature, and the top right arc becomes concentric with the first orbit as step 2

then:

3) Look at the 2nd orbit? for step 3.
4) On this side? Which coincides with the intersection of the orbit lines of the Merope 5 star and planet/moon 2. ... step 4

Should be easy to go there and wait for a USS or something?
If no one else does, I will fly to Merope again, and science this myself, next time I get to log on.

Please also try overlaying the centre of the circle on the star & putting the pointer on 5C - pointing order of UA & UP,
also try centre onto merope5 & pointer onto 5C.

that seems to be the obvious relationships to test. Some people have queried possible role of Merope2 in this puzzle due to its orbital parameters; you could also see if that fits somehow.

I have no idea if this is of any value or not, but came across this while searching Merope 2A. I've come across ship wrecks before but nothing like this. Sorry if its normal but feel it worth posting.
