The server problems with this game are starting to make it unplayable.

Experience for the past few days:

Is it constant, or just occasional? That is, have you not been able to login at all, or dies it just drop you everyone once in a while?

I ask because I recently had to find a workaround for this problem (though I can't recall if it was the transaction server or the matchmaking server). The workaround was to start Elite (not Horizons), as my issue had something to do with a planetary bug.

Last night was atrocious whilst playing in a Wing.. Getting kicked with connection errors are frequent enough over the space of a week for it to be problematic. I've often found myself unable to get into SC or jump, such a scenario can last for a few minutes or for longer periods. Lots of others have the same issues too.

The server solution is pitiful in my opinion and its sadly affecting the quality of the game experience for many people. Its also not doing the rep of the game much good either.

Oh, OK, I think we're speaking of different problems with the same symptom. Yeah, I agree, the wing drops are frustrating.

Oh, I was blaming it on my crappy ethernet over power extenders. I've been getting this regularly, as well. Random drops everywhere at random times. Doesn't matter where I am or what I'm doing.

It'd gotten worse ever since 1.3 with each additional patch. While the content revamp for missions is appreciated, I'd go back to the old "boring" board in a second if it got rid of the constant random crashes caused by the transaction servers. FD are "aware of the issue", and honestly that's fine for me. I'm really hoping we get a networking re-work or some sort of networking clean up. I know its taboo to state, but I'd gladly pay a monthly fee for server stability and "32v32" dedicated server instances. They existed, with bandwith and networking infastructure getting cheaper and cheaper each year, there really is no excuse. I'd gladly pay for the bandwith myself to host a 64 slot server that then cooridnates with FD's servers - so instead of 5 players dialing into my connection they would instead dial into "my" hosted server that I'm always dialed into.

For those who don't want to pay - keep the anemic and tragic "p2p" "stock" solution, and if they ever run across me, they hop into "my" server for free.

Whatever.

I just avoid "network nightmare" activities for the time being.

Its not just wing drops. It is, and has been, a constant issue when playing the game to varying degrees. Right now, I'm being kicked from the game or having problems going anywhere every five minutes.

Whenever I wing up I am practically guaranteed a server disconnect when I jump from one system to another. Adding insult to injury, the leaving wing message appears without the option to rejoin. Booting players from a group when they DC? Only In Elite(tm).

I've been experiencing intermittent server issues. Some evenings it is great and on other nights it is nearly unplayable. There doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason as verifying my connection (against game servers I play on in Europe and USA) proves the problems don't originate from my network or ISP for normal traffic.

I can only conclude that AWS isn't all that reliable.

EDIT: The DCs when winging up though, that sounds like an issue with Frontier's P2P implementation for multiplayer. My issues are primarily with transactions, which I understand use a typical client-server setup.

I see my regular issues falling into 3 camps
1) Connectivity issues into AWS that cause drops sometimes when v busy and I can see this sometimes when i look at packet loss/re-xmits etc
2) Constant crashing of our wing when one of us high wakes
3) Instance or as I call it shinstance issues when we should all be in the same instance but all we can see is a solid blue blob on the scanner where wing members should be. its a kind of shadow instance. This requires the most ammount of in out in out shake it all about

I have hard wired managed gig-e cisco switches out to an asus high perf AC66 VDSL router and 70mb/18mb low latency connection into plusnet

The majority of my dropouts are with the matchmaking server.

It seems there is no match for me (thats what my wife said)

Ive put all the mods on in cfg files and port mapping but it hanst improved it

If anyone has any suggestions .......

I read that FD want evidence to try trace this issue (According to the Reddit link).......

Surely all FD need to do is play the damn game like us and they will soon have all the damn evidence they need!

I just wished Frontier would start caching things like local systems, mission boards etc. Having to pull the data from server every time you want to access these is ridiculous. It's even worse when you mis clicked and have to wait 30-90 seconds. I know the states can change, but for the missions you can use timers, since they only refresh after x minutes. The system map you can just show the cached values and only update them after syncing. Right now I shoot past planets when I just wanted to check something on the system map, because it takes to long.
Delivering time critical missions of less than 5 min is impossible when the mission board takes almost the same time to load. Also remove all time critical updates with time limits under 1 minute, please they ruin the experience of having that mechanic, cause they waste your time.

It would also lighten the stress on the servers, if all the data was synched a bit less often.

I had a nightmare of a time this morning taking a rookie CMDR out bounty hunting.
First issue. While on route to meet up, he kept getting interdicted and killed. Not a server issue, but I winged up after that and escorted him to the CG in Ambika.
First jump.
Bam. Disconnected, and a Complete crash on top.
Reload the game.
Re-wing up.
Jump.
Bam. Disconnected again.
Log back in.
Can't communicate with him. Nor him with me.
We're both at the same station. Can't see each other. Yet I can talk to other friends fine.
I relog again. Not fixed.
Can't tell him to relog, because I can't communicate with him!
I find a friend willing to help, and ask him to relog for me.
He relogs.
It final works.
Wing up. Jump.
Bam. Disconnected.
Decide to travel to the CG separately.

Total fail!

However, once we go inside the RES and winged up, it all worked fine.

There has definately been some snap surprise crash to desktops for me. Plus entering the missions board resulting in server issues also.

Have sent in a few crash reports.

Flimley

Just playing devil's advocate here - but maybe FDev isn't having issues. I'll say this - I haven't had a single connection error in months. I can't even remember the last time...... So perhaps it's not as clear cut as you suspect.

Also those that have dropped packets/loss in your connection... Well YOU need to sort that out before trying online gaming - that WILL trigger disconnects and that isn't FDev to fix. That is between you, your router, and your ISP.

THIS, is why I have been living in solo for the past few months. Anything involving wings or other players just trashes most of my sessions. Invisible enemies being the most annoying. Current having zero issues with other multiplayer games.
