Anyway, back to Science.
Before leaving again for second holiday's step on the Dolomites, I've had a couple hours of playtime, I've spent in Maia towards and around the Black Hole, to look for free floating UPs.
Nothing.
Next step is to check systems ~127ly from Merope for UAs (not UPs), to check MR_Beeps theory that I found interesting.
Bonus: Following outwards from Merope the trails of the new Federation Systems for a casual UP could be a must...

Nah, pretty sure that's random. I've had it before in Deciat, so I'm pretty sure it's just Farseer trolling people.

I missed this theory. To clarify, if we can find a UA ~126 LY from merope it would give evidence to support this theory? Seems easy enough to test. Pretty sure we all know what to look for when it comes to UAs.

Well, to be honest, I know that the limit is 135ly, because we've checked it so many times.
But are we sure something's not been changed by FD to fit the message? Very easy to check.

What I know is that 15ly is a recursive distance in ED, maybe dued to how the game was programmed.
So checking in 15ly steps is not a bad idea at all, in general. For everything we are looking for.

I'd go for methodology. Like, the UAs are searching for something.. Merope, obviously, since they all point to it. Then they need to find something specific within Merope, so they release the UPs to find it (5c). So I'd bet they are between the UA bubble and Merope (although where, is a different matter, since we would have found them by now. *scratches head and adds nothing whatsoever to the discussion* lol sorry

A few of us I think have already been looking around there. I know Patau has looked and I spent a couple days in and out of all of them. More eyes are never a bad thing though. They put outposts there for a reason right?

Have spent a few hours there over recent days, presently looking in HIP 17225. The Feds must be there for a reason also.

Not found anything yet.

How do you point at something you are looking for because you don't know where it is?

I'm still loading up Meta-Alloys for my shifty engineer friend, once that's done I'll fly from merope towards witch head and check each system along the way. Can test both the 'Radial' theory and the 'Column' theory at the same time!

True. So it makes more sense they point away from Merope 5C because they were actually started from there.

By the way you folks can add my two eyes to the list. I just recently finished my lovely Exploraconda and it is now time to put her to good use. I'll be honest though, with all the info I've seen its been hard finding a place to start my search. I'm up for suggestions if anyone's interested in giving.

When people ask me for directions I can point them in a general direction.

That's what's going on here. 5c is important to them for *some* reason. Maybe even they don't know why yet but it is a general, vague attention they are giving it. Like they expect it to be useful. I don't think 5c is necessarily the answer to the mystery but they are pointing to it for a reason. We just don't know the reason.

We need to think about how the UP actually feels...

I just stood around all day in my office wearing my tin-foil cap and pointing at Merope 5C... By the time a car outside honked, I felt like releasing an EMP. It's understandable.

Phew, well +1 UP recovered.

Almost 3 weeks solid looking, 3 lost UPs, successful retrieval on the 4th.

Bit shellshocked, need to lie down, when it pops such an adrenaline rush due to the time invested.

I'm really out of the loop with UPs, this thread is just too much to follow.

Will review the 1st page then commence experimentation, as per the old UA days.

I guess step 1 is to grind rep for Palin first for special cargo bays?
