This looks like a 3 page story. Getting rid of the story bits the information gathered would be:

travel on a ship to a planet with an atmosphere. search the planet for a scar on the land (canyon, ridge). land at said scar. search for a cave

That is far too simple to be SCIENCE, Cretin! Serously, though, I actually said something similar many pages back (maybe on Thread 7, in fact). I think it is far simpler than many of the prevailing theories/hypotheses. Unfortunately, in my searching I've come up with squadush.

What do we think?
What do we know?
What can we prove?

That is why I changed my avatar to Mr. Gumby. This literally makes my brain hurt.

Since I can't edit my post (didn't mean to submit) I'll added the reasoning.

The first page looks like 3 beings traveling on a ship.
Second page looks like the actions they took when arriving at a planet.
Third page looks like a cave if you were to continue the flat line at the bottom and the curve of the arc.

on the 4th page I read:
you know that Planets with atmosphere are not landable yet, don't you?

Absolutely. If I were thinking in your terms (this must be something we can complete in current version of the game, not future) then I would guess the brief outline could mean enter 'glide'. In that case it would be:

3 beings traveling on a ship detected a celestial body. When in glide saw a scar on the surface. Landed at said scar. Found a cave when exploring the scar.

However the game will continue to evolve and atmospheric planets will not alway be as they are now.

However, I like your interpretation about a story being told.

Let me continue it:
in the cave, they found a drawing carved on the wall, an ancient graffito, depicting something like a circle with four pictograms around it, and strange lines and curves all around... :D

When is the last time a commander checked out the Skull and Crossbones Nebula? I have another curiosity, what if this "key" is trying to tell us that the receivers are on the outer edges of the galaxy? I know the formidine rift, toward Bovomit, and the outer reaches towards Beagle Point have been extensively honked at by a few commanders, but what about at the other 3 "corners"? Specifically, to the outer reaches of the first and fourth quadrants in this image: http://i.imgur.com/wbQW7Xa.png

To be clear, I don't intend to mix the two subjects, but my idea does involve the UP's spectrogram being a map of our galaxy, intending to show us where we should go, to find something, or make contact. I'll be sure to bring a pair of Unknowns (Artefact & Probe) for a little extra "luck" finding them.

I'm nearly to the Bug Nebula and NGC 6231. Slightly more than halfway to the 5kLy point, would it be quicker to turn around now and ally myself with Sirius Corp. to get access to Palin's base and the CRCR?

You know if I wanted someone to find me on and unknown planet the last thing I would try to do is use a land based map...

I'd use a map of the stars in the visible sky.

The Feds have moved out of Merope and can now be found on the 4th planet of Pleaides Sector RO-Q B5-0, Ajax is in orbit and Neptune and Damocles are guarding barnacles at -27.0165, 72.0927 and -23.3386, 71.5158. I suspect there are more ships and Barnacles on the planet but wont be able to check until later on today (after I have had some sleep)

i can't find a RO-Q B5-0. Can you check that is correct?

I was yesterday in normal space 25 km from the Maia Black Hole and recogniced some strange sounds. I will do a recording today in the evening.

Couldn't find it either at first, but it worked for me when I entered "Pleiades Sector RO-Q B5" in the search box in the galaxy map.
It's just next to the first Fed outpost from the pleiades if I remember correctly.
They are on planet 4, visited it last night.
