What would be nice would be a GALNET article with Imperial Inquisition dismissing as "preposterous!" those ideas that us citizens have mooted that are actually on the right track

It's ok, the patients are all hosed down daily.
i think Barnacles are mining stations. Notice the underground rumbling.. then metals and such "sprout" on the tentacles. Harvest the tentacles, and a while later they sprout again. They are mining from underground. Converting things into meta-alloys, so the "species that planted them" can come along later and collect them to repair/refuel their ships. Being living-things though, they can only exist under certain conditions (not too cold, not too hot etc). The UA's find a suitable system, the UP's narrow it down to a suitable planet, then the Barnacle gets sent there to plant itself into the ground a mine away. The missing link in this chain is the collecting "ship", unless probes collect the alloys and deliver them to the artifacts. But we've seen no evidence of that.

IMO it's the Federation that are keeping secrets, keeping the truth from people. They were first to secretly discover the Probes, and carry them back to Fed Space in convoys. It's the Federation that are planted all over the Pleides, with capital ships to keep people away. The Federation that have secretly UA bombing, mostly as a weapons test. I think if the Empire knew anything about it, they would publically shout it all over Galnet as an easy way of discrediting the Federation. I'm taking a back seat from the mystery for now. Not that I was ever at the 'forefront' of it or anything but I am currently struggling to divorce my thoughts of the image from Black Holes because of the structure of Jacques adventure, when the UAs pinged him across the galaxy via Black Hole systems. I don't think this is valid at THIS stage of the mystery though, as I have no evidence at all that the two are connected. Good luck in your future ideas, commanders. I will be keeping up with the mystery and seeing what you come up with. I trust you to crack this
As an aside, I really hope we get to see a 'surfaced' Barnacle one day. Still hoping they are kinda like... giant, land-based biomechnical monsters. Like big 'boss' fights down on the surface. Or perhaps they are 'refuelling' alien motherships?

Yeah, there is a magazine called "Frontier Power", but we don't want to use it because we want to solve by ourselves.
UP might be a key to help us understand something else the UA is trying to say. Not original, but just reiterating the idea.
If the image is indeed a key, then the idea that it decodes/decrypts something else we haven't yet understood (or, equally, even encountered yet) makes sense.

What you are seeing is confirmation bias. The vast majority of the UP Convoys have been found in Ross 47 and G 99-49, because that's where the first were found and other people follow in the footsteps. The reason they are carried by "G 99-49 Life Industry" is that this is the controlling faction in those systems. The same goes for the one found in Wolf 294. It is carried by "Coalition of Wolf 294" because that's the controlling faction in that system. So, there is nothing to be found from who is carrying the UP.
I must say, this is getting so advanced only perhaps 3 or 4 players in the game will be able to solve it. With the UA the big thing was Morse. With the UP, so far the big thing has been spectograms. Now you are taking it so far beyond I'm pretty sure you can see Sag A from where you are standing.

I really do enjoy seeing all these ideas popping up, as it shows what an insanely diverse and knowledgable player base this game has. I still think we are overthinking this and letting complicated theories and equations get in the way of an easy solution. I mean, it's a game, it's not an experiment to find a new undepletable energy source.
Until you added those lines around the image, nothing was there. So, eh, no.
